Thank you. Appreciate the honest review. I have always loved light shafts and graphite. I think my grandpa shaft in my driver is senior flex , less than 55g(might be less than 50g).

Anyway, will keep watching, thanks for the tips and great videos.
For a Senior Driver shaft I purchased used a VA Composites Raijin 44 gram Graphite Shaft and it did deliver, they run $340.00 or so for new with tip of choice installed. So for anyone looking for an after marker shaft, this is another option, I'm going to put one in my fairway wood. PS I had the Motore F1 in my Taylormade R9 driver years ago and it kicked butt too, but I was much younger then.
For comparison, it would be worth doing a test with MSG hitting the Motore X F3 shaft in something closer to his standard specs (maybe the 6S: 60 gram-series in stiff flex?). These are the stock option in the Cobra RadSpeed drivers so they be easier to find. The Motore X series are great shafts. I have the Motore X F1 in driver and love it!
Thank you for your expertise. I was looking at the Autoflex, and based on my swing speed, I would fit into the 405 or 405x series. Do you have a shaft in mind that would fit its flex and profile?
If you can find a Mitsubishi Grand Bassera (spelling?) in the 40g version, light flex. It's discontinued but I think you can still locate them on eBay.
The data showed the Motore X was slightly wider in dispersion in this particular test than the Autoflex or the original Motore. However it was also the longest of the 3 so a miss would naturally be slightly greater. That said, he hit all 3 shafts similarly.
First of all, your channel and videos are great. My current driver (PXG 0811 Gen4) is built to a 44.25 length with the same swing weight as the stock 45.5 length. 2 questions: 1. What driver length was Mr. Short Game hitting? 2. If I used the new Mortore shaft that was shown in the video, would a shorter length driver, like mine, make a difference in flex, performance, etc?
These were all 45.5 inch playing length. A shorter shaft in this make up will be no different than a shorter shaft in any version. The shaft will play stiffer until you add weight back to the head to get the feel back. Then the flex will come back. It's totally golfer dependent as to what length gives you the best chance to make consistent contact with the club face.
@@EFGMC Thanks for the information and confirming my suspicion. When I went to the 44.25 length driver I changed the sole weights to give it the same swing weight as the stock (45.5 inch) diver.
Great video but I do have a couple questions. I thought the spin needs to be closer to 2100 and to bring it down you need to bring the loft down? About 8 degrees for most. Then next I understood the flex should be less as well. I saw Dechambeau say even at his swing speed his flex is close to a seniors flex. Crazy right. Your thoughts. Joe
I think 2100 spin gets dangerous. I like 2500 much more unless you are on the long drive circuit. If you aren't on the screws at 2100, the ball can get hard to control. Not sure about Bryson comment. I don't think his swing is built for this sort of flexible shaft. From what I have seen, it works better for more deliberate tempo golfers.
I know it seems odd that these shafts produce good results, I have a 95 gram fujikura speeder and I hit it better than a super lite shaft? Every chance I get at a fitting I try and have fitter try and outperform this driver, it’s also got a 910 d3 head. We even tried a new ts titleist head on the old shaft no difference? I woulda thought the head woulda been 20yrd better, exactly the same, goes to show that new drivers are no better than 14 yrs ago
Just curious, what is it about those shafts that make them the best candidates? Could you not get any quality shaft that is extremely light, that's a couple flexes more flexible than normal, and a high kick point to minimize spin, and be good to go? I really enjoy your channel. You seem to have a sense of honesty and humility that I value in people. I hope to meet you in the future.
Yes. You are right on. Doesn't have to be this shaft. I've said it before you can drop 2 weight classes and 2 flexes and take advantage of the same idea. I just think this is a good shaft for the money and have actually tested it to show it works.
@@biggregg5 Torque values on shafts I pay very little attention to. I have always said, if you get the right weight, flex, and launch specs, then the manufacturer's torque on that particular shaft will be fine. It is going to be a little different when talking about this Autoflex matching stuff, the numbers will be a good bit higher. However I don't think the torque is ever the reason if a shaft doesn't work for you. The Autoflex doesn't work for everyone, more aggressive swings will have issues, but again that is the whole shaft not just the torque.
For the Autoflex 305, would a comparable substitute be a "L" ladies flex shaft? RR (R2) shafts are not generally made by US manufacturers, but are a staple for the Japan market.
I have an Autoflex but wanted to try the experiment so I purchased the Riptide small batch you mentioned in a previous video. Took it into my local shop and asked to match spec for spec, SW, length, etc… that riptide was so hard to control. I hit 1 fairway and have never sliced it so bad. Tried it for two rounds and can’t control it to save my life. It was fun while it lasted but the Autoflex was worth it’s price to me after doing this test.
Which Autoflex do you use and which PX weight/flex did you try. Just trying to get context. The Riptide we used in the video was for sure a good bit stiffer than the Autoflex we used.
@@EFGMC 505xx Stealth plus at 45.5”, D1. I have the PX Riptide SB in the 40g 5.0 in the same length and SW but with a Callaway tip. Thanks for the reply!
I see that you have written the Fujikura Motore X F3 5 R2 flex, but I guess that is for mrShortgame swingspeed. Do you have eqvivalent shaft for say 75,85,95,105 swingspeed etc.?
The real “trick” is dropping 10g and 2 flexes from what you currently use. Might need to move into a 40 class shaft if currently using 50g weight class for example.
I literally think I've created a nationwide shortage on that shaft now. Turned on 100 guys to it, lol. I have 2 myself. 290 carry, 163 ball speed, 15* launch, 2000 spin. Unreal. What other shaft in reg 50grams do you recommend that would emulate the X F3.
Been playing around with the Vista Pro model as well because it gives me some lighter weight options for people who may already be starting out in sub 60g shafts.
AJ I Love your videos I have learned a ton. With regards to this specific shaft, is the Motore X R2 the stock shaft in the Cobra Radspeed? Would the shaft profile change if I were to get the Motore X in the "tour length" (44.5") from Cobra (or used)?
Thanks again for a great overview. Could you please outline the specs, as in, length being played. Is it 46”? So it is a Fujikura Moratore X 55gm regular flex?
Thank you for announcing that there are scammers. I fell for the scam on Mr Shortgames site and warned another member who hopefully didn't fall for it. Mr Shortgame should also make mention of this on his videos.
Hello, love your channel. I’m going to start to reshaft et regrip my golf club and your channel help a lot. I have a question about this autoflex shaft: do you have any recommendation for the 505xx version??
I personally thought this Motore played a little stiff vs the 505 we were comping it to. I would probably try this same shaft Motor F3 5 R2, but tipped 1 inch. I think that would give you a close feel to the xx version.
Part of what makes the Autoflex idea work is that you are in many cases dropping head weight, and big surprise, that makes you swing it faster. Of course the exact same result would happen with any driver. It's really something you need to experiment with and see if the reduced weight gives you better speed without compromising accuracy.
@@EFGMC Thats not entirely true, a shaft like auto flex is designed to use a lighter head weight to make the shaft flex correctly and load up to maximize power and stability. You throw a light weight head on a regular stiff shaft and yes you will swing it faster but now you just made the shaft much stiffer and have poor results.
Need your unbiased wisdom please. As an inability to hit driver in play, I typically shoot mid to upper 80s (and sometimes mid 90s) due to penalty shots. My irons are decent but I can never “feel” them at any point in my swing. I want to get new irons…what are some iron heads that are heavier? Like wedges for instance. Currently play zx7 and apex cf19. Thanks!!
You can get most any new irons with heavier swing weights (ie heavier heads) when you order them or have them built. My first recommendation would be to buy a roll of lead tape and go to the range. Start adding strips of tape (2 inch strips) to the back of the cavity and hit some balls. Keep adding weight until you find the right combo of feel and consistency for your swing. Then you can use one of the online swing weight calculators or take the club to a shop to weigh it so you know what SW you prefer.
Actually thinking about it also the Air Speeder 40 in R2 might also work. Both of these are high quality shafts. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated and data is always helpful... 🙂
hello watching your videos because i was introduced to autoflex shaft yesterday. do you build clubs to ship? Of course i am laughing because you can't fin dthe original Motore(of course) but would be interested in a club with the Motore X R2 flex and would be interested in what you would recommend for a head. thanks!
It's going to feel stiffer and be about 8g heavier. Won't be Autoflex like at those specs though you still might hit it great. Again my rule for this method is 10g and 2 flexes softer to get a Autoflex feel.
@@EFGMC Ah, ok, if wanting the autoflex feel. Got it. So the dude hitting the drivers in the video would normally play a stiff shaft in his own gamer or reg? Assuming he wasn't after the autoflex feel that is. His swing speed is in the 100 mph range? Think I will grab the Motore FX 3 5R2 (if I can find one) anyways and test 'er out.
@@cryptoking8060 Depending on who you were referring to in the videos. Mr. Shortgame has SS around 106 I think. Keenan is around 112. The starting point to use is whatever shaft flex and weight you typically use in a driver and then drop weight and flex from there.
Sure. Again the most important thing is matching the specs. Low 50g weight, Light flex or similar, mid launch. You could find some discontinued quality shafts that would fit in that price point.
@@glenbarker3310 That will totally depend on the golfer. Realize you don't see any PGA guys using the Autoflex at this point so it clearly didn't work for them. A super light, flexible shaft will help some people but not others. Won't know until you try.
Hey @glen Barker I recently picked up a Garafalloy ProLaunch Blue 45g A flex from Golf Galaxy for $60 new. My stock SS is 110 to give you some reference. There is a list of different options you could look at in the $60 range from either Golf Galaxy or Golfworks. Other options are the UST V2 HL F2-A, or V2 F2-A, Aldila NXT Gen NVS Orange 54g A flex. I will throw out the disclaimer that the feeling is something to get used to. It will take a range session or 2 before you have your timing figured out.. but when you do, you adapt and completely forget about the XS label because the club just becomes a thrill to hit.
Was the new Motore X F3 tipped? You mention in the other video that the Motore F3 (White) was tipped and inch. Also, wasn't the original (from manufacturer) Fujikura F3 black in color? Or did they come in white as well?
The X was not tipped in order to match up with the 505. If I was trying to match the 505X, I would tip it. Someone told me the white version was used in Cobra drivers from that time.
Thank you first for your insightful videos. I do have a question about this video. I have a driver club head speed of 100mph. I swing a Callaway Epic Speed driver with an OBAN devotion6 shaft in a stiff(65g). I have tried the AutoFlex before on the range and was amazed at the performance and also the price. I found this video fascinating and would like to know if I should be looking at the F3x R2 even though the overall weight of the shaft is in the upper 50’s in weight? I would love to see a bump in clubhead speed and maintain my smash factor. Any thoughts? Thanks again, Tom
Also if you have a video that shows how to reduce the swing weight on this potential club given that I am adding a lighter shaft I would assume that the swing weight will be heavier. Will I need to add a counterbalance at the butt end to achieve my goals or look for a heavier grip to lighten the swing weight. Thanks again.
The Oban raw weight is 67g and the Motore is 57 so it's a bit of a drop. You could find another shaft that is in the upper 40g weight and light flex if you want to try and capture more speed.
@@EFGMC Thanks for the reply, I swing at a D2 swing weight so if I go to a 50g or lower should it be a senior stiffness? And if I go with the Motore X F3 should it be the R2 or just the R? Thanks
Not at all. Similar shafts will yield similar results assuming they are of similar quality. There may be small differences but those will often be less noticeable the longer you use the shaft.
@@thegolfingmusician6345 Just remember the 1 inch tipping will split the difference between the A and R flex so the change from the R will be pretty minimal.
I like the Smoke Blue RDX more than the smoke Black but you can get those Smoke Black shafts dirt cheap at this point so hard to pass that up if you already know you like it.
I think the Ventus is the best shaft out there for the money by far. But again, if you match the specs of a particular shaft in weight, flex, and launch the results will be pretty similar over time.
I might look at the Vista Pro line in the 45g weight and the lightest flex option. The shaft in the video would still work but you might get more out of the even softer/lighter shaft.
How was the dispersion circles with them all ? Also are you playing these longer like 46” ? Isn’t that the assumption of the autoflex is to play it 46-48”?
All these shafts measured out to 45.5 inches. Dispersion was pretty close on all three. He was slightly more accurate according to Trackman with the Autoflex and the original Motore, than the Motore X however they were all very close.
I am still waiting for him to send those wedges too. Never said in the video that YOU have to pay shipping. Gonna report him on Friday to YT...this is a scam!!!
@@EFGMC okay, you didn’t address the question, didn’t explain anything. Assuming a 104 mph like him, what makes him able to swing a softer shaft like that effectively? Is it just rhythm, kick point,. Is there that little difference in shaft flex with some manufacturers?
@@buddymaxwell6881 The important thing is not the particular flex. Some golfers will be able to hit softer flexes, some won't or at least won't feel confident with it to play it on the course. It's going to be personal preference. I can't tell someone for sure that a light flex will be better than a R or S. Will depend on the golfer, the swing, the tempo, the transition speed.
What I am not getting a free shaft !!! ..s/c - Scammers are every were. Love this video on saving money , my Q is why do Pro players stay with the same shaft even if they have a new head ?
Exactly. Plenty of fitters don't want you to know this. Most pros keep the same shaft (both woods and irons) for years and years. They will switch heads but the shafts stay the same.

AJ, Any thoughts on these shaft performance at higher swing speeds? Love Mr. Short Game but he is not a high swing speed hitter.
First of all, your channel and videos are great. My current driver (PXG 0811 Gen4) is built to a 44.25 length with the same swing weight as the stock 45.5 length.
2 questions:
@@EFGMC I take it a 45.5 playing means including the club head.
@@justmythought1586 Correct.
@@EFGMC One more question: if I currently play a R-flex shaft what flex would I try in the Moretore, A or Ladies?
Fujikura need to look at making those old shafts again...modern is not always best.
would be interesting to see yards offline subtracted from the total to account for dispersion.
Great video. Highly helpful 👍🏴
How do you feel about the GRAFALLOY PROLAUNCH SUPER CHARGED 50 LADY WOOD SHAFT? 59g, 5.1 T, high launch. Does this stack up?
Would this shaft (Ust Mamiya Elements Chrome 5 F3 50g Regular 44.25" Driver Shaft) be similar to the Motore? Thanks!
Yes, pretty close other than one step stiffer in R.
Would it be similar to the Riptide blue shaft Mr Shortgame hit that he said was stiffer? Thanks again!
@@JOHN-hk7hg Probably in the same ballpark.
Hi, how to shorten from 46 to 44.5, butt or tip for the motore?
Butt trim usually.
I play stiff ust proforce gold 65 grams. Would motore f3 55 lite flex work for me? Found uncut shaft for USD 100
Can't say for sure if it will or won't. But it is as likely to work as the Autoflex. Not every golfer will benefit from super light and flexible.
Great info, thanks! Would you say the Ping Alta Distanza 40 would be a good option for Ping drivers?
What is the specific name/model of the older shaft? How much do you want for the one you have?
How do the two chefs compare for the senior player?
Depending on speed, you would probably need to move into a different shaft to get the correct flex feel at slower swing speeds.
@@EFGMC
I may have asked on a previous video, but is there a torque range to stay within for a roughly 110 ss?
@@biggregg5 Torque values on shafts I pay very little attention to. I have always said, if you get the right weight, flex, and launch specs, then the manufacturer's torque on that particular shaft will be fine.
It is going to be a little different when talking about this Autoflex matching stuff, the numbers will be a good bit higher. However I don't think the torque is ever the reason if a shaft doesn't work for you.
The Autoflex doesn't work for everyone, more aggressive swings will have issues, but again that is the whole shaft not just the torque.
@@EFGMC
Thanks!
For the Autoflex 305, would a comparable substitute be a "L" ladies flex shaft? RR (R2) shafts are not generally made by US manufacturers, but are a staple for the Japan market.
Correct. L flex and high 40s gram weight would be closest.
@@EFGMC ok that makes sense. Thanks
Yes, I believe it's the same. Length would not change anything when comparing to an Autoflex at the same length.
@@EFGMC Thank You for the input, also congrats on the new place/business. Where are you/your business located?
@@joshanderson5075 Thanks. Atlanta, GA
Thanks again for a great overview.
Could you please outline the specs, as in, length being played.
Is it 46”?
So it is a Fujikura Moratore X 55gm regular flex?
I would like to know this as well
Is the motore f3 the same stock shaft from the old taylormade R9?
If so should I just get the R flex?
Don't know. Most important is getting the weight and flex right. It can be with any number of different shafts.
Thank you can you share the exact torque , kick point , specs again for that motore f3 in A or R flex?
Thank you... will look into getting one
If the option I normally take is 70 gram regular. Could u drop down to 50 gram ladies for more kick. This is a hybrid scenario
Thank you for announcing that there are scammers. I fell for the scam on Mr Shortgames site and warned another member who hopefully didn't fall for it. Mr Shortgame should also make mention of this on his videos.
GOOD JOB>>>>>>>>>>>>THANK YOU for your efforst!
Thx a lot for your (really fast) ansmer.
Does the weight of the head have an effect ? As ping heads are heavier than TM, what would you have to do to offset the weight ? Make it lighter?
@@EFGMC thanks.
What are your thoughts on the Project X Cypher 40? Would it also have the correct characteristics to replace Autoflex?
Actually thinking about it also the Air Speeder 40 in R2 might also work. Both of these are high quality shafts. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated and data is always helpful... 🙂
@@jimdurnin9554 I have both those shafts in my studio. I need to try them and see how they feel. No reason they shouldn't work.
Would you use the same shaft for a 90 MPH swing speed
No I would probably go 10g lighter and a flex softer like in the Fujikura Vista Pro 40 R3
What would be difference between the 5-R2 and the 6-R, other than weight? Would the 6-R perform somewhat the same?
He responded to my exact question above check it out.
hello watching your videos because i was introduced to autoflex shaft yesterday. do you build clubs to ship? Of course i am laughing because you can't fin dthe original Motore(of course) but would be interested in a club with the Motore X R2 flex and would be interested in what you would recommend for a head. thanks!
I do build and ship clubs. Email me with what you were interested in.
adam@elitefitgolf.com
What was dynamic loft for each shaft and was that accounted for with loft changes???
I never got that info from the TM data, but being there watching they were both very similar and probably around 13 to 14 launch angle.
What difference in feel or weight is the FX 3 6R vs the 5 R2? I'm considering the 6 R have a 100mph swing speed.
The starting point to use is whatever shaft flex and weight you typically use in a driver and then drop weight and flex from there.
is the fuji shaft the 55 regular flex or lite flex? did you lower the loft to optimize the spin?
Good job protecting us from rip-offs!
Is there any shafts that are comparable at or below the $100 price point? Thx
Sure. Again the most important thing is matching the specs. Low 50g weight, Light flex or similar, mid launch. You could find some discontinued quality shafts that would fit in that price point.
Thx. Is it hard to keep the club face square with a high swing speed being flex is much lower
@@AZstu324 thanks for the info. I will definitely look into it. I’m always will to tinker lol
@@tlavery59 Lighter shafts will actually decrease the SW assuming the balance point is similar and the length stays the same.
@@EFGMC Thanks for the reply, I swing at a D2 swing weight so if I go to a 50g or lower should it be a senior stiffness? And if I go with the Motore X F3 should it be the R2 or just the R? Thanks
MCM, Is it a mistake to look for shafts that have the same specs and go for that ie Aldila NXT GEN NVS 55?
Not at all. Similar shafts will yield similar results assuming they are of similar quality. There may be small differences but those will often be less noticeable the longer you use the shaft.
So glad to see you and Matt going down this path.
What would you recommend for seasoned citizens that swing just under 100mph?
Ladies flex?
Probably L flex right at 50g if you want to match the 405 Autoflex. But if you are close to 100 still, you could do a low 50g A flex shaft.
@@EFGMC thank you. Currently using a Riptide r flex and swing just around 100.
Will try the a flex and tip the shaft one inch.
@@thegolfingmusician6345 Just remember the 1 inch tipping will split the difference between the A and R flex so the change from the R will be pretty minimal.
@@EFGMC thank you for sharing your knowledge. Very appreciated.
Hi AJ. Someone just broke me hzrdus smoke Black driver shaft. Which replacement shaft do you recommend that is similar or better shaft. Thank buddy.
I like the Smoke Blue RDX more than the smoke Black but you can get those Smoke Black shafts dirt cheap at this point so hard to pass that up if you already know you like it.
Very cool video :-) What are the specs on the shafts (length,stiff/regular/senior/weight)? (on all the shafts) thanks!
Would the Riptide non CB version also be similar?
Yes, if the CB works for you then the non would also.
How about replacement for autoflex 405 ?
My ss is 90-100.
The exact match for autoflex 405 ?
Do you have any shafts that match the Ventus VeloCore models?
I think the Ventus is the best shaft out there for the money by far. But again, if you match the specs of a particular shaft in weight, flex, and launch the results will be pretty similar over time.
Thanks!!!!!
Hi, is this shaft suit me at driver swing speed of 84mph using Ping 410
I might look at the Vista Pro line in the 45g weight and the lightest flex option. The shaft in the video would still work but you might get more out of the even softer/lighter shaft.
How was the dispersion circles with them all ? Also are you playing these longer like 46” ? Isn’t that the assumption of the autoflex is to play it 46-48”?
All these shafts measured out to 45.5 inches. Dispersion was pretty close on all three. He was slightly more accurate according to Trackman with the Autoflex and the original Motore, than the Motore X however they were all very close.
@@EFGMC thanks for the reply, very helpful.
