The Spicy Venue, Hyderabad is a restaurant that comes highly recommended for its traditional fare from states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The signature Vegetarian Thali featuring some of the most loved Andhra dishes such as Ulavacharu, Pesara Pulusu and Pappu Chaaru is sure to give one the taste of food served in an Andhra home.
In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers’ Editor, Kripal Amanna tastes this extensive thali together with some of the must try, traditional non-vegetarian preparations. He also meets owner, Mr Sampath who began the establishment nearly two decades ago and makes a quick kitchen tour to watch another popular dish, the MLA Potlam Biryani, a dish that Mr Sampath says draws inspiration from from the Japanese omurice and local MLA pesarattu. This one is a delicious fresh water shrimp and mutton mince biryani in a spicy omelette blanket!

a unique surf and turf style biryani. the signature of this dish is the thin, veil-like omelette in which the fresh water shrimp and mutton mince biryani is wrapped! the rice has a mellow spicing. the shrimp has a mild saline flavour yet is deliciously sweet.

this thali is complete with traditional telugu delicacies, all vegetarian! from a slightly tart and wholesome dosakaya pappu, to a crunchy bendakaya vepudu, to potatoes roasted with cashew - bangaladumpa vepudu, pesara pulusu, a tart drumstick ulavacharu and more, these dishes can be savoured with piping hot rice and loads of ghee!

@brutal warrior telangana and rayalaseema are for mutton recipes. But andhra is mainly for sea food. U too get variety of fishes here. One that stands out is the pulasa, a hilsa fish when it enters godavari river from sea and travels long way against the current. The farther the fish travels away from coast the costlier it becomes. And sometimes it exceeds 7k bucks. It is available only in west bengal, bangladesh and andhra. What many ppl dont know even andhra has back water region called konaseema and is called kerala of the east.

The MLA Potlum Biriyani is very similar to the Pad Thai wrapped in Egg, which you can find as some venues in Bangkok Thailand. Great work very unique creation. I have gone by Spicy Venue many times while I was in HYD but never visited since I was worried about the Spice level, but that said I will check this place out on my next trip to HYD. Italian originated from Latin which is very older and Telugu has greater influence of Prakrit,the language older than Latin.

I tried MLA Potlam biryani & Kodi Pulusu Chicken at The Spicy Venue in Visakhapatnam. It was the spiciest meal I have ever had. No other food can match the level of Andhra food in terms of spiciness.
