Award-winning and beloved by locals, Maasli is the place to be for a true taste of GSB culinary magic. From crispy fried delights to hearty curries, every dish here tells a story of tradition and taste. 😋
Kunal Vijayakar dives into a feast featuring some of Maasli's best offerings! He starts with the crispy Prawns Fry and moves on to the irresistible Crab Lollipops. The Konkani Ghee Roast Mutton leaves him speechless, while the Jumbo Crab GSB Style Sukkhe is a true showstopper. And let's not forget the flavourful GSB Tirfal Fish Curry that brings the taste of the coast right to your plate. 🤤

GSB migration started from Saraswati river (that gave the name Saraswat), to Kannauj, to Gauda kingdom (areas of modern Bihar and Bengal) adding the name Gaud, then finally settling in Goa. During Portuguese invasions they migrated to Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala. They were businessmen, and also administrators in Maratha Empire - Satara, Kolhapur, some in Pune and most in Gwalior. GSB of Shaiva and Smartha tradition are non-vegetarians but those following Vaishnavism are vegetarians (like most other Brahmins). As a GSB, its good to see GSB food on your channel.
wow. good to know about Saraswat History. I am from Udupi and ive met a lot of Saraswat Brahmins form Gokarna which is kind of our Kashi. I only knew that they relate to the Shankaracharya Mutt / Shardha Mutt but did not know any other details about them till now. Thanks for sharing
I am a Gsb myself but didn't know what Gaud meant.
Thank you for your comment
Your explanation is correct but just to add to your text, even the people following Vaishnavism are non-vegetarian. My family follows Vaishnavism and we have always been on hardcore seafood diet. 🙏🏻
@@walkclip yes, i thought so. But didn't know if it was a traditional non vegetarian diet or just a modern independent choice.
Caste = belt on dog 🐕
GSB’s majorly moved to Goa, became natives & left when the Portuguese started forcibly converting my ancestors…. To Kerala (Kasargod) and Karnataka (Mangalore)
Mangalore Catholic here with many GSB friends. They love their food and rightly so, it is delicious.
Real story. Could not watch it past 8 mins the first time, I was salivating and in hunger pangs at the same time. I was embarrassing myself to others who might have been watching me. Thanks Kunal and Maasli for this sweet feeling of discomfort. 👍

Our favourite restaurant. We are GSB from Goa. We simply love ❤️ the food here
I have been watching you from early 2010s and I never get bored
Apart from GSB , also Bengal (part of Gaur) & Maithili Bramhin also takes fish in their regular diet.
Takes?? Eat
Nice video, mouth watering, we gsbs are pure matsyahari. My bucket list
Lovely lovely show. What I liked the most is - Kunal eats everything including rice and curry with hands and never uses spoons and fork. Love every episode
Proud of being and Indian and Gaud Saraswat Bramhan. 🙏🇮🇳🙏
We went everywhere and came from everywhere, so GSBs have influences from each part of Bhatata and we gel with everyone. True Bharatiyas we are☺️
Gowda means north Indian. There were five Dravida Deshas. We have five Dravida Brahmins. The Gujrath & Sindh (Gurjara), Maharastra, Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil (Tamil and Kerala). Then there were five Gowda Deshas. For some reason, Gowda Brahmins were allowed to eat meat, and the Dravida Brahmins were not allowed to eat meat.
Konkani has words and similarities with Suraseni, Magadhi and Mahastrian Prakrit.
GSB cuisine has many similarities with Oriaya cuisine and we even use similar words to describe some food.
GSBs are a mixed lot from north India. Migration happened from the Saraswati river basin, Kaunaj and eastern Gangetic planes of Bihar & Bengal.
When our ancestors came and settled down in Goa, they were in the middle of Dravida deshas. It was not acceptable there for Brahmins to eat meat. So they prefixed "Gowda" to continue to eat meat in Dravida Desha, and simultaneously claim Brahmin status.
Please note that many north Indian Brahmins are allowed to eat Mutton and fish, but chicken and eggs are taboo.
We are gsb who are very passionate about Seafood. Few of our relatives who visited this place had given negative reviews about this restaurant hence i have avoided this place so far. But after this review it looks like i have to give it try.
Your next stop should be a CKP Restaurant.... there is one in Parle East. It's name is Nav Kayastha Pangat. I am sure your viewers will enjoy its uniqueness. Just as they would have enjoyed this episode on GSB Cuisine.
Unfortunatly it is not CKP cusine, but malvani. Tried it couple of times- no authentic CKP dishes in menu. It has been over a year since last meal at their east vile parle outlet- not sure if any new CKP dish added since!
@@ghanashyamshanbhag4163 example of any ckp dishes?
I love Masali. Discovered it last year and want to keep going back to it. Super tasty, correctly spiced dishes. The food tastes like home cooked and has the right flavours. It’s easy on the pocket and very authentic.
Thanks for bringing authentic quality food to us.
Hi Kunal, please try to cover CKP cuisine in some of your future episodes !! Worth exploring it.

Mast ekdam. As usual vijay sir rocked this episode too 😊😊. I think that khube wade tasted like heaven.
I've liked the video even before watching it, Im that confident when Kunal bhai is in the video
Finally you visited Maasalli...Their food is fabulous

So much nostalgia just watching this!
U r lucky guy , luv it, u r happy go lucky guy, keep it up, God bless u.
Originally Sarswat Brahmin Caste was residents of Kashmir then migrated to Sindh & Punjab then Bengal & from Bengal they came to Konkan & Goa.. Even in Kutch region you find huge numbers of Sarswats. They are the bhattji priest of Lohana, Arora & Bhanushali community.
Nobody except tribals are originally from India which also includes Kashmir. May be they first migrated to Kashmir then to wherever....
Just check my reply. Kashmiri Brahmins are Saraswats. They probably migrated north from the Saraswathi River after it dried up before 2000 BC. Some others migrated south, east etc. I do not think GSB's migrated from Kashmir. Well, I am a GSB.
From Goa, GSB migrated south upto Kochi, during Portuguese persecution.
The migration began from Saraswati River and the Gaud region. Hence Gaud Saraswat Brahmans.
We were settled in the Konkan-Goa region by Lord Parshuram, according to Shanda Puraana.
Fact check: Only hindu brahmin community that eats fish? That will raise eyebrows amongst brahmins in the east beginning with Nepal, Bihar, Orissa, Bengal, Assam and ending in Manipur. Please correct that.
Proud GSB here...❤childhood memories of khubbe n masali revisited.. 🙂

Your expressions Kunal were telling us how much you enjoyed, being seafood. And the mess you made, again with expressions, is a total sign of delicious food and how it is to be eaten. Being fish lover, it was on your face. This looked more like Mangalorean GSB, there is difference in Karwari and Goye (Goa). Very good one and prompting to visit.
Liked the show very much. One also should taste gsb vegetable preparation also
Beautiful episode and as always fun to watch Kunal eat the various dishes and explaining the depth of the flavours. Love from Hyderabad ❤❤❤ Kudos to the entire team!!

beautiful. added this place to my next Mumbai trip bucket list. love the episode, especially the crab and the mutton.
The way you eat the food, it's mouth watering. One of the best food shows ever
Glad you enjoy it!
We will try it someday soon because me myself GSB 👍👌😋
Thank you for this episode.
Khubya vadey is every saraswats(GSB) favourite
I will try once ❤
This is really great ❤
Lovely. Missed the Bangda Curry.
Wherever he visits restaurants the food is delicious
Great guy.
How can someone look so good while having food .
Maasli is definitely the flag bearer of GSB food in Mumbai. Another noteworthy mention for GSB food has to be a restaurant named "Fish Curry Rice" which is present in Thane and Dadar.
Proud GSB here - great video 😍the food which my Mum n Aajji made
Proud 😂
It was mouth watering . Yummy .
I am a GSB too . Our food is truly delicious n have our own authentic recipes both veg n non veg. The colour of the food items served here looks almost the same, looks like the cuisine is of karwar or Manglorean GSB. Chicken 65 n ghee roast are not authentic saraswat food items, there is much more to explore in Saraswat cuisine delicacies, for that matter one has to visit Goa and eat at a GSB restaurant or at GSB friends home if u have any😊
As a GSB, this was fun to watch :) mast layka jalle
Nice episode; but error in graphics at 1:24. Rajapur lies to the North of Goa, not South. Maybe you wanted to show Mangalore in the South.
You noticed! I was about to comment.

Same suggestion given couple of times...Reason why I stopped watching....
Yes. I always wonder what happens to the food he dips his fingers into but leaves unfinished.
Delicious food 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Brahmins eating non-veg is very common.
Maithil brahmins of bihar, brahmins of bengal assam and orrissa have fish as their staple diet.
In uttrakhand garhwal area also non veg is common amongst brahmins and so is the case with maharashtra, goa n andhra.
This whole propaganda against non-veg food is being propgated by baniya/jain media.
India has always been a mix of veg /non-veg cuisine.
Every area depeding on its tarrain and climate has had its distinct set of food items.
Thats the beauty n charm of indian food.
Lets not destroy this n lets not indulge ourselves into this unesessary n unwanted debate of veg vs non-veg eating.
Food is a very very personal choice and article.
We cant just force our likes or dislikes on others
Andhra brahmins don't consume meat i doubt even Maharastrian brahmins do. Why open mouth without knowledge?
PS: I don't support veg food campaign by baniya-jain. I am not a meat eater.
I am GSB ,we are purely Vegetarian family. Satvik consumption of food. no onion and garlic.
Shivrak food is consumed consumed by many GSB .
The GSB Gaud Saraswat Brahmins are Vaishnavites While the CSB Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmins are Shaivites. This branching out happened somewhere during the migration from the banks of the Saraswati river which diappeared. This drought forced the migration from Kashmir to Gaud desh and then the east coast (Goa). Then a large migration to southern coast Karwar- Mangalore- Cochin
This time migration was due to the atrocities of the invading Portuguese and forced conversions to Christianity. The Konkani language also now incorporated Kannada words into their Konkani. language
I am GSB myself and I am Shaivait. We eat nonvegetarian food.Besides GSB we have Saraswat brahmines. Mostly Saraswat brahmins are Vaishnavaits and they are vegetarian. Chitrapur Saraswats do eat non veg food.
