polamma’s mess, popular andhra eatery for working professionals, students, families, vegetarian andhra meal, banana leaf meal, bhojanam, pappu, sambar, rasam, hyderabadi chicken biryani, chicken roast, mutton pepper fry boneless, chicken polamma, fish fry, bangalore, bengaluru
Every city has its celebrated restaurants, these are the ones that everybody knows. And then there are hundreds of tiny eateries that are almost unknown except to those they quietly provide daily sustenance to - office goers, working professionals, students yearning for a taste of home.... However, in the current scenario of work from home, offices and educational institutions being shut, these establishments that once were the lifeline of the communities they served are now finding it difficult to sustain themselves.
In this episode, I visit one such Bengaluru eatery, Polamma’s Mess, named so by its owner, Jagadeesh Reddy in memory of his late grandmother who raised him as an orphan in a village near Kalahasti, Andhra Pradesh. I hear his poignant account of how this once bustling eatery is barely getting by, which is rather unfortunate given the simple but delicious Andhra vegetarian bhojanam that Polamma’s serves in addition to other meaty sides. I hope you will find within your heart the desire to support eateries like Polamma’s Mess. These need your support today to help keep them on their feet to continue serving the workforce, students, community at large… when things get back to normal in the future. Take care and stay safe.
Veg Meals
My favourite part of the meal here. Simple but satisfying affair of rice served with a nutritious and creamy ‘thottakoora’ pappu, vegetable for the day, sambar, rasam, yoghurt and the staple condiments of pappula podi, ghee and ghongura chutney. The simplicity of the meal is reminiscent of what you will be served in an Andhra home.
Rs. 100 (usd 1.3)
8/10
Chicken Roast
The chicken is double cooked, first in a deep-flavoured masala and then roasted in ghee with plenty of curry leaves and spices. Moist inside and with a slight roasted crunch, this is a must-order if you like chicken and prefer it sprightly and spicy..
Rs. 150 (usd 2)
9/10
Chicken Polamma
This chicken fry is fortified with the richness of cashew paste and red chilli powder, the sort of preparation that will make you sweat if you aren’t accustomed to chilli heat.
Rs. 150 (usd 2)
8/10
Vanjaram Fry
The fish is fried in a tasty masala, albeit thin sliced, the sort that you would expect to find in a mess.
Rs. 200 (usd 2.7)
7.5/10
Mutton Pepper Fry Boneless
The meat is soft, but the flavours of the masala had settled a tad; I also found the cornstarch a bit overwhelming, especially since we didn’t get to it as soon as it arrived on the table.
Rs. 220 (usd 3)
7/10
Chicken Hyderabadi Biryani
The Friday special at Polamma’s Mess is portioned enough to feed one, or two if you precede it with the Andhra veg bhojanam. There is plenty of masala and the chicken is moist and juicy, made in the kacchi akhni style. A recipe picked up by Jagadeesh during his stint in Hyderabad.

One of the best things of being a Christite was that pollamas was right next to our university. 150 Rs and a perfect lunch done.

Big time Christ memories. We would feel lucky to get a seat here during the lunch hours.
Thank you for promoting this restaurant which actually serving good food and which definitely deserves this kind of support and publicity in this pandemic situation.... Santosh from Andhrapradesh.... Thank you kripal and team👍👍🙏🙏

The way Kripal Amanna narrates the food is Excellent.

Sir you have made sure that such establishments don't phase out and the locals get the real taste and help such establishments to prosper, keep up the great work.
This mess outbeats any Andhra restaurant by far. No match except Annapurna hotel in Gandhi Nagar and Hyderabad's Kakatiya mess.
This is one among my favourites of those 3 mentioned.
Food looks great kripal sir, helping so many people in this difficult situation....you have so much of blessing s from all these people and from the viewers..amazing video
Went to ths mess after watching this video. Trust me it was the best Andhra meals I had in Bangalore in a long time. Thank you :)
This place is amazing. Whenever we need to have good meals, we go there. Crowded always, so sad to see this place empty.
1) Hats off to Mr. Kripal Amanna for covering this small (tiny place equally when compare to Oberoi, Bengaluru) place called Polamma mess.
2) I wish to mention one important quality about Shri Kripal is that he is covering and explaining beautifully all Veg and Non- veg items equally.
3) He must have really enjoyed Annam& Gun powder with Ghee and Annam &Thotakura pappu with other pickles like Gongura pickle.
4) Over all his presentation is Excellent.
*!!! WARNING !!! - Never watch this when you are hungry*
😂😿😹😹
Good point😀

Not every Andhra hotel serves amaranth dal. When you have it, enjoy the meal!
I learn from kripal how to eat.
When the skies and borders are open, I'm raring to get to India esp after all these wonderful reviews by you, Sir!

You seem like to be his student😂😂
It's really mouth watering dishes, one after another delicious dishes are being served.
Delicious Food, felt like eating while watching your video. Excellent Sir.
we went to this mess on Saturday 19th Dec 2020. Three things that we liked:
1. Food (we had veg meals). Simple no nonsense tasty food which fills your stomach, easy on your wallet. We even got couple of extra packets of podi :) packed to home. Tastes nothing less than any costly Andhra restaurants.
2. Service: Even though they don't look like those fancy servers in "rich" restaurants, they KNOW how to serve food on a banana leaf and they are super responsive to your needs. And one thing they got it correct is the amount they serve. I was content after my meal not over full or left hungry which I was never able to achieve in other restaurants.
3. The owner: Even thought the place was so busy he was so calm and working along with his staff, not just sitting and collecting money. Who doesn't like a hard working man! And man they do work hard. They constantly run between floors to get food from upstairs to down. !!!
Only one thing that one needs to be careful about is Parking. Better come by two wheeler.
Kripal Sir, this video is definitely going to help the Polamma Mess in a big way in the current situation. Nice to see you helping these eateries in your own way. 🙏🙏
Firstly thanks to the youngster who alerted you about Pollamas and Big Thank You to you for taking the recco and making the effort which from the looks of the video totally worth the visit here😀
