    I adore this album and the new mixes make me love it even more. Stephen is a sonic alchemist, he's made something I knew so well fresh again. I'm hearing things I haven't before and the clarity is incredible, especially on the vocals. My mind is blown, it's expensive but it's essential.
    Great review mate, I totally agree.

      I'd love to know what you think regarding the Doremi box set. The previous 3 box sets seemed to be very well received, the only criticism from some was over the price, nothing to fo with thd music. I'm hearing more criticisms with Doremi. Personally I love all the Doremi mixes but I don't think they're better than the original, there is definitely clarity but sonic rumble has been sacrificed. Greasy Truckers however has been elevated and I can now love it as much as I always wanted to.

    You’re spot on about the surround mix, Phil. Absolutely incredible. Easily the best I’ve ever heard. Thanks for bringing my attention to it as I’ve had the box for a couple of weeks, but hadn’t bothered listening to the surround mix so far. What a mistake that was!

    There never was a poster, Phil - the sleeve of the album folded out.

      @@NowSpinningMagazine Original sleeve was tri-fold, with the front two panels which open out to form a hawk shape (of sorts). Inside there's another panel (colour photos of the band) that folds down to extend the body of the hawk shape. Inside is b&w photo collage with credits and lyrics. Opens in the middle same as ELP's Brain Salad Surgery and Roy Harper's Lifemask.

    Bought it, well pleased with the remaster and remix discs. Hearing new details in the remaster and different parts in the remix. I've been listening to this album since the 70's and this has refreshed it for my listening pleasure. I don't even have a blu ray player and I think this is fantastic. Looking forward to the imminent Doremi release (already ordered), and hopefully Hall Of The Mountain Grill to follow.

    That booklet is amazing. It replicates that whole "Log" book and much more! Hawkwind in 5.1 makes A LOT of sense, as you explain. I am shocked they never did anything in quad back in the day.

    I had this on preorder
    Expensive at £70
    The remaster cleans up the sound
    The remix disc is stunning. Unlike Steve Wilson's remixes which bring the stereo image towards the centre for a "more modern sound", however, the wonderful stereo remix by Stephen W Taylor is a revelation and he's kept the wide stereo! 😃
    The book has the complete log book that came with the original die cut cover. The bottom of each of book's pages says says "log book" .
    The lyrics in the book are in reverse order 😄
    The poster replicates the folded out cover. The photo of underneath the West way flyover at Portobello Road was a regular place for free gigs at the weekend. I was fortunate to be living just off of LadbrokeGrove at the time
    8th November sees the deluxe edition of "DOREMI FASOL LATIDO" 3CDs +Blu-ray at the whopping price of £90!! The 2 CD version is a very reasonable £20
    But . . .
    It features legendary concert recording "Greasy Truckers" (I was there! 😃)
    Been expensive couple of years, 2023 released "Space Ritual" 10 10CDs + Blu-ray £100
    (I grew up in Brixton, the book features a ticket for the performance)
    Followed by "Days of the Underground - The studio & live recordings 1977-1979 £100, 8CDs + 2 Blu-ray
    All in the same format 25 x25•5cm slipcase, poster, limp back book.

    Thanks for the review, Phil. Can't afford to pick up the boxset at this stage and I really should finally give Steven Wilson's Warrior at the Edge of Time's 5.1 a play, having owned that one since it's release. Hopefully, Stephen W. Tayler will get an Atmos set-up in the future too as their music would benefit even more...

    I saw Hawkwind the week the album was released and Nik Turner was at the bar holding the sleeve (Town & Country Club in Belsize Park).
    However I don’t understand this release at all - hopefully someone can explain.
    What’s the actual difference between disc 1 and disc 2 ?
    I thought Blu Rays were visual to watch films and concerts etc (those are what I have) so what precisely is disc 3 the Blu Ray ?
    Finally I’ve never heard of 5.1 what equipment do I need to listen to a cd recorded in 5.1 ?
    You wouldn’t believe I have circa 1,000 cds and my first job was in a record store !!

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  3 месяца назад

      CD1 is the remaster. CD2 is the new remix. The BluRay - When SACD did not take off and consumers started to invest in 5.1 surround sound system to watch films is became the obvious choice to use this for audio only releases as well. The Bluray here has a dolby atmos and HD surround sound remix with images and animations showing on the screen. You would need 2x front speakers, 1 x centre speaker, 2 rear speakers and a subwoofer + an AV amp and Bluray player.

    • @riverwalk8729
      @riverwalk8729 3 месяца назад

      @@NowSpinningMagazine Phil thank you for taking the time to explain. It’s clearly a superb package but I’d need a major upgrade to my sound system. I’ll go to an audio specialist and see if they have 5.1 for demo purposes for me to assess.

  • @walkingtheboogie

    How big a room does one need to get good 5.1 sound and how expensive a aystem does one need? I don't have a surround sound setup.

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  2 месяца назад

      Not huge. As long as you can position yourself between the left and right speakers you can put the centre speaker under the screen and rear speakers behind you. The subwoofer can go in a corner.
