- They've made music together since they were young teens, coming together in Edinburgh from places as far apart as Ghana and Maryland. Young Fathers' hip-hop-infused poetry is intense; you can hear that on the group's new album, White Men Are Black Men Too.
Translating that intensity was a challenge for Young Fathers at the Tiny Desk. Full-on drums and electronics weren't going to happen on this day, so the group's members chose another path - a quieter, more contemplative path - and just two songs made the cut, spanning only four minutes. It's a brief but powerful introduction to their poetry and their possibilities. -- BOB BOILEN

Be sooo proud of yourselfs for this beautiful song, makes me cry in the best way
seen them live, purely unique and amazing!
Shame they only had 2 tunes. I would happily have had a full set from them. I love them to pieces and they're really not like anything else out there.
Nothing but a bare faced lie
They need to do this again
I can hear lonely lonely sounds living like an only child!!! all day singing this, just beautiful
The song "Live Forever" by Bing & Ruth is like an instrumental version of "Am I Not Your Boy", I'd recommend it.
Aw this was so good. These are my two favorite young fathers songs! So happy.
Am I Not Your Boy and Only Child. Only Child is off of Tape 2 and Am I Not Your Boy is on Dead.
Oh my ... This is perfect. I was waiting for this to happen.
wow i love this. this is it.
Goodness, I love them too much! Come to Kentucky!!!
Why so short?
Apparently only two songs worked in this setting.
Lol that means these fuckers are some complaining dicks who can't perform outside theirs codify zone
They've since done more "laid back" performances and adapted some more songs
+Dead poolmonkey Did you read the description...? Easy on the assumptions there, champ.

Meaning there were probably issues with the way the office was set up that day that didn't allow for a full-on set by the group. And they still pulled off an incredible performance that was only 5 minutes long. Pretty awesome, imo, and this group just doesn't make music for "acoustic" performances. How could they have prepared for something like that if it was out of their hands?
Mitchell Raznick nah fuck that.
beautiful at end. Had vision of film scene with 3 survivors, knowing the next minute meant almost certain death depending on what the trio do,....not sure what I mean, but brothers for sure
Thank you NPR for introducing me to Young Fathers
You’re welcome
Explore further. This was a disgrace on all they are to reduce it to just this
@@cbsixx mate I wrote that comment 7 years ago. And they clearly express in the description that they didn’t have time to prepare a longer set
Love Love Love young fathers....Thank you NPR!!!!!
damn dude got a nice voice!
Seen these guys last year open for Depeche Mode and I looked at my gf and I said who TF is this? She said IDK. The second song comes on and I'm really really enjoying the music, the people in front turn around and ask "do you guys know the name of the band? I said "I'm Shazaming them rn, ,,,, young father's, the band is young father's" and I honestly probably had a better time vibing to them over Depeche Mode. Love dm, but this band killed it.
Oh, and then I met Michael the count Bisping coming out the event. Good times ,,😎
So good, thx!
Oh yeah, diggin this....
Muy buenosss !!! Yess !
I just heard rice and I’m loving it
You guys should get a band like Between the Buried and Me or The Contortionist to play one of these.
They are so good, but you didn't get to hear it. Check them out on KEXP.
yep that's incredible!
Sooo goood ! Top kexp performances ❤
it's just wicked........
They need to redo this man!
Since when did Alex Song have a nose ring.
I love these concerts when NPR shows them. Favorite one was T Pain. But It always seems kinda funny to me they never show the audience. It's almost as if they aren't there and it's applause effects. I'm inclined to believe that's more than likely the truth
KontryBoy706 There is an audience actually it's the people who work at NPR.
Eric Draven Ok that's good to know then. I wish they would at least pan the camera sometimes. It looks so strange sometimes.
KontryBoy706 They've shown the audience in past performances. They just don't normally do it because there's literally no reason to do so. Don't assume the worst just because you're ignorant.
KontryBoy706 Ignorant it's not an offence. It means that you ignore something. And that was the case. He didn't wrote you were a stupid. But, i have to agree with you on the fact that people give the worst part of them on the web.
KontryBoy706 watch the dan deacon tiny desk concert or search for the gogol bordello tiny desk concert
Fuck yes.
:)
Honestly this was so insanely disrespectful to them. A group with such massive sounds and range to explore and with important messages and stances to take and they we’re reduce to this weak, weak opportunity. This isn’t a tiny desk. Give them what they’re due. For once
*sees video in recommended*
b it ch . what t h e fuck fin all y
Please, someone find these vocalists a pitch center! It's an emergency.
Mark Hatlestad your awesome but I'm better.
Mark Hatlestad chill out brother
You guys are so amazing live! I hate to say i was really disappointed with the album "Dead" when I heard it. I'd much rather listen to this than your album. If you guys put out a live album that sounded as good as this video I'd buy it in a second. But that's just my opinion. Hope to hear more live stuff from you guys in the future, this is great!
This guy the same as the racist from the Scotland Portrait gallery?
Are you obsessed?
Erline Andrews Some of us are trying to erase hate. That puny arrogant prick with the nose ring wants to keep racism alive so he can monetize his self imposed victimhood. The things he said in the Scotland Portrait gallery video are hate speech.
Ed Edge Yup, that’s the racist.
they better not sing that second song again. I listened to this with the volume turned way up to cover the sound of a barking dog and I decided I liked listening to the dog better. I'm sorry!
richard burton just curious. where you serious?
They have as much charisma as a rusty parking meter.
This, was really bad xD
Why so short?
