Young Fathers performs I Saw at The Mercury Prize 2022. UK viewers can watch more from the Mercury Prize 2023 on BBC iPlayer. #youngfathers #mercuryprize
I'll never understand why they aren't huge. The most exciting, intelligent and innovative band in the Uk for the last decade. And they *smash it* live every time, too.
Because they are the kind of artists that won't let themselves be dictated by production, marketing and by-products ... Look at those twats aroudn those tables, who does that... And they are big enough now, in that niche of the greats ! And like the fellow before, the mainstream music scene is boring, not sure I want to see them mixed up there ... I just hope they get their fair share of financial reward. To support that, buy their music, and more importantly go see them live !!!!!
First chance you get see them live, saw them at green Man festiva this year.. and the last time I saw a band that blew me away like that was clash at the royal court in Liverpool in 1981..
First saw them live supporting Depeche Mode in June and thought they were absolutely epic and totally into what they were on stage to do and I absolutely love this tune and listen to it a lot. Specifically this performance, they are just incredible and should’ve won!
So awesome to see them doing so well since i found them as just a little indie band way back near the beginning. They've really never compromised, either, theres risks, and intense energy happening in nearly every song.
I liked the video before I even watched it, because I knew it was going to be Epic! It was. The build up of the music and feeling the audience catch the vibe, the audacious ending. Perfect.
Was going to fly from Cincinnati to Philadelphia to see Young Fathers on Oct 7th but it was cancelled. Oh well, things happen, I'll catch them the next time they come to the US for sure
It must be so hard performing when you have a load of people sat in front of you not moving, as if they are at a chicken in the basket cabaret night. Best band - should have won. Saw them at Green Man this year - should have been festivals headliners for the Sunday night, but stuffed away on a smaller stage. Luckily, everyone knew they were the highlight and the place was rammed.
I'm so eager to see them live here in DC in early October, but it amazes me that the show is still far from a sellout. What the heck? Heavy Heavy is an incredible album that's been getting short-shrifted all over. I'd easily call it my favorite album of 2023.
Not bad for a few Edinburgh's gadgies, see them a few times in auld reekie. With young fathers you think soul, feel electronica and bass drum... You get punk!
Being from America I don't know there back grounds at all but it interests me to the point I don't want to find out but honestly the music and live performance is enough
„Hello, Mercury Prize here. We would like you to play live and smash every other performance - your spaceship can be parked on the roof. Looking forward seeing you in our galaxy if you come across planet earth. Humankind is ready for you now!“

I am 75 watched bands all my life the best stage presence i have seen for years. Tony Moore
Wow, hands down best live performance on the night , fantastic song just built & built, should have won.
How is the audience just sitting there, a witness to that energy?
Now that’s a performance 🖤🖤🖤
Edinburgh Ya Bass🏴😘
3 people up dancing. What an effing crowd. No wonder they got the look at the end.
It's the mercury music awards, it's probably all music execs etc
Spot on - ‘suits ‘
everyone else is probably intimidated/blown away
This absolutely blew me away watching it on TV last night. What a performance.

Young Fathers Live is emotional and transends. I only found them as a preceeding act on Depeche Mode's tour. NOW A FAN!!!
Best song of 2023, and best album too in my view
The most amazing sound I have heard in a long time ❤️
Best Band now!

Saw these live for the first time last night and after many years of gig going I honestly think they could be the best I’ve ever seen
Absolutely fucking mighty✌
I liked the video before I even watched it, because I knew it was going to be Epic! It was. The build up of the music and feeling the audience catch the vibe, the audacious ending. Perfect.

Was between them and Ezra collective for it (in my opinion) both amzing performances! SO excited to see them live!
Easily one of the best bands in the UK right now. Nobody can touch them

красавы)
Best live band around at the moment, incendiary
❤❤❤
Pilton,s Absolute, s Finest😘
They seriously from Pilton? Sitting here in Pilton watching it, trying to get my head round how people can create something like this out of thin air.
Well there you are 😘
Wow
Hab die Band das erste mal als Vorgruppe bei Depeche Mode gehört und hab gedacht oh je was ist das. Aber mit der Zeit finde ich die ganz cool
Love the deep roots on show but who let the Unapologetic hosts on stage with them?
Portugal, Lisbon. Oporto, yes?
🐐
🎵👌👌👌

Yeah man, needs everyone bouncing.
Phenomenal. Sonic. Noise. ❤️
This is the sort of band you don't go to see, you go to experience.
Very good, so many good albums i expected to win over ezra collective, but they deserved it
Not bad for a few Edinburgh's gadgies, see them a few times in auld reekie. With young fathers you think soul, feel electronica and bass drum... You get punk!
Checked these out after hearing Noel Gallagher mention them it’s alright sounds like a mash up off a few other songs catachy bit eh
Good
How tf can you stay in your fucking seat during this performance 😃
Being from America I don't know there back grounds at all but it interests me to the point I don't want to find out but honestly the music and live performance is enough
Who saw these coming?
I love how diverse they are
Gonna be tough for this group to stay together.
How come?
They’ve been together since 2008 lol
They've managed for a good few years so far, so let's hope it continues
That stole the show for me
Listen. Look. Feel. Really should have won.
Unga bunga intensifies.
I like Ezra Collective, but Young Fathers should have won the Mercury 23.
Don’t get it; if I was there I would be on the tables bustin some bloody moves…..
Cillian Murphy recommended🎉
„Hello, Mercury Prize here. We would like you to play live and smash every other performance - your spaceship can be parked on the roof. Looking forward seeing you in our galaxy if you come across planet earth. Humankind is ready for you now!“
This band is crazy insane on stage.
This might be so difficult to perform in front of such a dead snob audience
Like Battles - Atlas.. Just betterererer
Robbed!
you could at least stand up, people?!
How didn’t they win? Ezra collective are pants
Ezra can actually play their instruments.
Tbf, they’ve already won it once
