+Toma “HeavyCake” Hawk I found the video well executed. In my opinion the video enhances and elevates the song, and that is what a music video is about.
For me, it’s modernising the demon from ‘possession’ as technology and Rosalind expresses how that shapes us and makes us become someone we sometimes don’t want to be and how it, over times, can damage us. More than that, the acting is amazing. The perfection of subtly hitting your elbow on a wall and getting startled by it to the panic stare she gives. My god, and of course… it’s massive attack, so 10/10 music. This is beautiful.

good observation. That`s exactly the movie I thought of when I saw this video. That was Isabelle Adjani, and I think she got the palm de or in Cannes for that performance.
The director of the video, Ringan Ledwidge, choose for chief inspiration the possession scene from the aptly named 1981 film "Possession", when directing the Oscar nominated actress Rosemund Pike. The floating mechanical ball featured in the video was inspired by 1979 horror/scifi film "Phantasm", which featured similar ghostly balls controlling helpless people's bodies.
This is the pedestrian subway in Londons Edgware road. I remember we used to walk along here in the 1980's going to Paddington college. The entrance and exit are closed off now.
This was a brilliant first time experience: my first thought was Irreversible (Gaspar Noé, 2002), then when the sphere turned up I thought of Phantasm (Don Coscarelli, 1979), then when she went hysterical, I thought of Possession (Andrzej Zulawski, 1981) and Rosamund Pike reminded me of her psychotic performance in Gone Girl (David Fincher, 2014). What a wild, unnerving ride that was! Can't be coincidence, I'm sure. Great work by everyone involved.
It's a creepy video, feels like Black Mirror and all the works you mentioned. It's a very simple but creepy concept. The needle in the eye is so cringe. It disturbs me.

This woman deserves some kind of an award. Idk if it would be a Grammy, an Oscar or what. The acting in this is... enthralling. I am so dialed in to her actions and movements. And it's the "robot/alien/entity" that's making it happen. But we are transfixed on HER. When she "acted" this, there was no robot. She was by herself doing this, imagining it. There was nothing there, except her. This is in my top ten best "acted scenes" I have ever scene. The FEELINGS invoked is incredible. I hate this sentence, but "You go girl.". You fuckin killed it. Again, some of the best acting I've ever seen. Not to mention the cinematography, CGI, lighting, creativity, and the musicality itself. A masterpiece. Bravo, encore! There is no need though. We already have so many masterpieces from Massive Attack. Ritual Spirit, Angel, etc..... The repertoire is incredible. I wish the broader audience was aware of this top tier art.
Massive attack are globaly famous and loved. Even though they might be not super ''mainstream'' but they are still beloved and in-demand meaning broader audience IS aware of that. Plus, their masterpieces are measured in albums, not songs imo
Damn. I recently decided to get familliar with Massive Attack's discography. Today this video popped up in my recommedations and I clicked it up, because I saw one of my favourite actresses out there in it. Now that I've watched it, I can honestly say I got nothing but respect for Rosamund for taking this role. I haven't read about it, but I'm sure she accepted, because she's a fan of MA's work and mostly, because she wanted to challenge herself. Her performence is brilliant and I just loved it how the first thing the sphere did to her was to make her have a teardrop. Like the song's name, which upon hearing made me interessted in these guys incredible work.
@@philipbonner6523 Noone was talking about imagination. Plus, it did take some imagination as they added allusion to Phantasm, plus it did take a lot of effort and acting prowess from Rosamund Pike to reenact that scene, she did make it her own.
Rosamund Pike deserves and Oscar for this performance! Hell she deserves one just for rolling around on that nasty wet subway floor. But also for this amazing physical performance!!!
If I remember correctly, the shoot lasted a couple of days. Although the team had built false walls to cushion her impacts but she was covered in bruises and could barely stand by the end. She didn't hold back.

TBH this reminds me of Possession's (1981) Subway Scene. Actually, it is basically that scene. Nicely done
finally someone to notice that :D
It was based on that as the MV director is a big fan of that film and the lead actress in it
good observation.

Massive attack definitely picked the best actress to perform this and she brilliantly pulled if off.
The actress is simply AMAZING.
Great piece of Art.
The actress = Rosamund Pike (God Exists!)
Type "Ontologie des fantômes" in vimeo and discover where they "found" the idea
This is the pedestrian subway in Londons Edgware road. I remember we used to walk along here in the 1980's going to Paddington college. The entrance and exit are closed off now.
Joe Strummer passage! I never got to see it :(
Good thing it's closed off with that mind-controlling dance sphere lurking down there!
Это просто чумовой ритм!!! Музыка не должна была вот так оборваться! Должно было быть продолжение ещё минут на 7-10 !!!
One of the best performing art pieces I’ve seen in the last decade.
Dont forget cube 2: hypercube lol
She's seems sexualized by it....as she screams by it aswell
Imagine......how sinister if the wrong men (not just Russia / China....the evil in this damn world).....got their grubby hands on this type of thing......remote rape/assault/even murders in the future????..,etc with zero ability to track/trace who these slimeballs are...in the near future I'm predicting it'll become a thing😱😱😱

@@micajohansson1138 yeah I'm very creeped out and so over the pedo hollywood and media culture projecting these unnecessary shadow aspects onto us it must stop
i was looking for this comment. it reminded me of possession too
Her reflexes are incredible the way she keeps up with the lightening fast movements of the sphere! Amazing talent! z);^D
This is like "Possession" by Andrzej Zuławski taken to the technological era. love.
*Sees Rosamund Pike in thumbnail*
*Watches instantly*
yes dude!! 😂😂
+Chris Grimes exactly
same
+Chris Grimes watch my video hip-hop from Russia
I love how RUclips's title for this was "Rosamund Pike stars in music video"
She killed this. Great video. Sick song... Awesome tile walls
I wish I didn’t watch that one week before getting eye surgery.
How did the eye surgery go?
Yeaah how did it go??
@@ghizlenebekhaled5278 maybe he can't see it now :(
You should better try "Un Chien Andalou"
The eye surgery went just fine by the way ☺️
Such a powerful video, and the performance bu Rosamund Pike is truly captivating ❤❤❤
I came for Massive Attack only, but also seeing Rosamund in the thumbnail, I had to see it instantly.
This song has had me in a trance for three days, now. I keep listening to it. Over and over again
Pike,i love this girl! Attack ,again pure genius 💯
This is exactly what my cat does when I pull out the laser pointer.
Lol
meowouch
☠️
Now i can imagine that watching this video but does your cat laugh?
This is what my cat hears when she's having 'Nam flashbacks!
A big homage to Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession
The thing about homage is it doesn’t take a lot of imagination.
Yes! I thought the same thing when I saw the movie ;)
That's exactly what I thought too! Dang!
@@philipbonner6523 Noone was talking about imagination. Plus, it did take some imagination as they added allusion to Phantasm, plus it did take a lot of effort and acting prowess from Rosamund Pike to reenact that scene, she did make it her own.
@@velvetplans5396 That's not just what you though, that's what it is... It's a fact, not just your perception.
This is one of the most disturbing surreal macabre videos I have ever seen, and I can not take my eyes off it! It is so compelling
Danny Lowe Watch 1981 Possession, and credit those instead. They literally copied the posession scene and added a floating ball.
It’s not really a metaphor if it’s that blatant :::::)
Danny Lowe The irony, you can not take your eyes off
@@Mightypoo007 Copied? You mean based right?
@@gerac.8889 pretty much copy/pasted it, but yeah you can say that if you want
Some excellent acting!!
Rosamund Pike deserves and Oscar for this performance! Hell she deserves one just for rolling around on that nasty wet subway floor. But also for this amazing physical performance!!!
I just love all the sensations Massive Attack can provoke
One of the best, most intense music videos I've ever seen. Her acting/dancing/movement is incredible. Unerestimated as fuck.
If I remember correctly, the shoot lasted a couple of days. Although the team had built false walls to cushion her impacts but she was covered in bruises and could barely stand by the end. She didn't hold back.
Young fathers too
Weapon of Choice
Incredible creativity of interpretation , of one being consumed and controlled.
The Oscar for this lady O_O wow!
shes good
Wow the acting, outstanding!!
