This is one of those songs that the video just compliments in and around itself.. The song is about loss and the feeling of someone loved being lost. The way I see the dance is that she's trying to grasp what's being lost, pull it back into herself and in doing so it's changing her and laying her "wide open". Nearer to the end of the song where she's mostly changed, you see the dancer start hugging herself as if she's swallowed in depression. She looks in the mirror and see's her past self, at which point her dancing picks up, becomes more erratic and frantic. Then at the end after hugging herself she gives up, and stands there holding herself lightly because she's now completely empty.. Nearly moved me to tears.

+Scott Manley You have to admit that this is awesome motion capture. Really looking forward to the making off if they release it. I have bets on that what we think is real in this video isn't.
Agree. There is something about the live version that just makes this song come alive. A different introduction and some different sounds. It’s wonderful. I’ve been lucky enough to see the “chems” several times , both as. DJ set and their tour. I have several tickets for their events in the U.K. this year. Cannot wait.
What a breath of fresh air. This is love and beauty on a inter-dimensional level. Dynamic. I am blown away. Not very often does a song spark emotion like this. Brilliant.
I have started to love Sonoya Mizuno, the woman who is also a dancer. How gracefully, how passionately, look how she dances! She injects meaning both into the visual space and the song, the aural space!
looks pretty good to me, fits the jerky mood of the song and puts some form of meaning to the sentiments, plus the precision it must have taken for the numerous takes to add in and over lay all the special effects must have been quite demanding to say the least...and, to top it all, Sonoya Mizuno is stunningly beautiful
I cannot express how much I love not only this song but the video itself. OK, I'm also what might be considered an old timer, but an old time Chemical Brothers fan, who grew up with the Brothers' songs way back in the 90s. To me, the level they've reach right now feels like a culmination of their talent, a maturity in sound, voice and imagery. Along the way, multiple talents have lend their helping hands, and that's why most of their tunes have incredible accompanying videos (think Elektrobank, Setting Sun, Hey Boy, Hey Girl, Star Guitar). I'm just happy to have grown listening to their music, to be part of the whole 80's & 90's rave scene and hopefully I'll be able to share at least a part of this passion to other, younger folks :)
I'm reading the comments and i see so many interpretations to this song/video. That's what music should be about, make us process the message we get, and not just a ready to eat meal from the supermarket like the 99% of the music out there now.
This is awesome for a number of reasons. One seamless take, moving camera, camera doesn't even show up in the mirror when it moves around behind her, ... . Obviously lots of post production. Great video!
This song brings me to tears every time I listen to it because it reminds me of the time frame where I was losing my little sister to psychoses, slowly over time... She chose to leave this world/reality in 2012 and I tried so hard to get her help... But being the older bother with parents that didn't want to have an intervention, I couldn't do anything to help her/get her help. I love and miss you, Kelly. I'm so sorry I didn't try harder.
It's honestly amazing that this entire video is one continuous take. The music, the choreography, the special effects and the execution are all flawless!
Had the opportunity to see them live this year. The most magical experience of my life, felt honored to be able to witness such an amazing demonstration of art. When they played this song I felt it deep inside, just beautiful. They really are true masters of what they do 🙌👏👏
One of the many best songs to listen to on your earphones while you run.. I often listen to a lot of chemical Brothers song while running, but this songs always gets me moving faster.
My best friend (my dad) and I enjoyed running a beautiful 5 mile route together several times every week. He took good care of himself and kept busy working on habitat restoration projects but hadn't been feeling well for two months; he thought it was his inguinal hernia. He went to a doctor in March. The doctor scheduled him for hernia surgery 4 weeks out but refused to order blood labs we requested to rule out other causes. I saw this video, for the first time, the day before joining my dad for an appointment with a different doctor one week later. My biggest forecasted pain and fear in life was losing my dad. Seeing this video felt like my biggest fear; what if it was cancer? I was with my dad for the next nine weeks. A blink of the eye, this 5:31 minute video story, nine weeks, it feels the same. I cannot watch this without weeping.
i think the meaning of this is when you dance, you let g of your ego and you forget everything and live the moment as if it was the last. this is beautiful
Was lucky enough to see a talk from the Mill, the VFX company behind this video. One of the things they said was that in their retakes, Sonoya Mizuno was perfectly accurate in repeating the dance which was incredible
Now everything can be made... it's not that surprising anymore... we can even shit thru an intergalactic toilet ... everything... we're the new gods... i mean at least thru a screen
i am a fucking god, and i genuinely enjoy this world most of the time. I feel bad for you if you can't enjoy, maybe go to a doctor. i know, wasn't serious either
The Chemical Brothers just can not put a foot wrong, every piece of music they have put out since the beginning has been top notch fantast and probably will be to the very end. Congratulations people from the bottom my heart. Regards, Doug Hughes Williamstown Australia
Sonoya Mizuno's performance of this ethereal and transcendent dance cures my depression for a beautiful moment. I wish I knew how to interpret it into words but something in the way she moves just speaks to my soul and situation in life. Like a slow but deliberate explosion of movement trying to evolve and not be lonely but dancing by yourself all the same but loving every moment of exposing who you really are.
You can't just leave a comment on a video like this. I have to craft an appropriate response that articulates the emotions that are conveyed by the imagery and sound. That deep soulful look she gives the camera at the beginning of the video describes what she knows is coming, and that is her entire body becoming synthetic as she dances. It speaks to all of us as we become more and more attached to our phones and technology that we are losing ourselves, it's getting away from us. She knows the end result at the beginning of the video which is why she gives that sad stare, and sadly it's what's happening to all of us, Which is why this is such a touching video.
I keep coming back to this, pure artistry. Chemical Brothers and Beck always stand out in their repetitive EDM and fake fabricated pop enviroments respectively, of course Dom & Nic never fail to think outside the box and this video is no exception, Sonoya's performance in here obviously inspired by her role in Ex-Machina and does a fantastic work in portraying an impossible transformation while delivering a fragile yet free spirited dance. The effects are beautiful, all of this is simply perfect, so perfect.
mesmerising song and video! Is noone gonna mention the last pose she makes she is checking for her own pulse? Also, the mirror shows that she is the camera - out of body experience confirmed
+Sara Bennett Nice catch, I did not notice that's what she was doing! I have depersonalization disorder, which is basically like constantly being in an out-of-body-experience, and I related a lot to this video and the whole idea of feeling like you're slowly becoming an empty shell.
+Sara Bennett That's an interesting view of her last pose, hadn't thought of it. I like that it seems to add to the interpretation of the visuals that she is feeling apart from herself, like she is checking to see if she still has a pulse at all.
+Sara Bennett Hello ? Hello ? Another illuminati agenda video, and people are so funny saying this is so cool and stuff... what a great deception people are going to have.
+William Weylts Everyone knows its the Templars we really have to worry about, not to mention the lizard people from middle earth! Iluminati are old news man.
This was beautiful on so many lvls. A welcome change for Chemical Bro's and their style of music, proving still that they are amazing at what they do. The AR/VR elements were such an experience, and contributed so well to the aesthetic of this track and Sonoya's ethereal dancing
This dancer is absolutely mesmerizing. Her every expression synchronizes with and potentiates the emotional impacts of the music and lyrics! And she's so very fluid with every movement and facial expression in this choreography!!! Difficult to imagine anyone surpassing her ability to pull this off - like anyone other than Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. She was a perfect fit for this music and concept...exceptionally well done!
I agree!! I was not aware she was in this video until just now, but it completely makes sense as she was in one of the *best* [and weirdest/bat-s*&^ crazy] dances I've ever seen in a movie with Oscar Isaac - Ex Machina. ruclips.net/video/b7C69HqnV8s/видео.html

A brilliant extra layer to this video is that you are actually her watching herself. Notice at the beginning when she looks right into the camera, and at 3:32, when she walked behind herself in the mirror, that actually is, and has been you, watching the entire time.
It's called Voronoi in case you like to know what that mesh/holes are called. Also, you can spot the film crew at 3:26 running by in the window of the door in the background.

5 years ago, I was cleaning my room, it was holidays and I was at home, 10th grade. This song touched my soul and it was the most beautiful one for me. Fast forward, I'm in 2nd year UNI studying in one of the most prestigious colleges of my country. It's lockdown, I'm home alone, my parents are now seperated, and there's this certain void created in me, and this song is even more relatable as my life is falling down!
I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. Music has always touched my soul as well. We are all facing difficulties. Please don't think your life is falling, being so young, it's only starting. But you need to understand from now on you can make your life whatever you want it to be, it is always a matter of attitude, even when things that you don't have control over and have nothing to do with you happen. Can I recommend you write how you feel, however it comes out, sometimes it puts in order my thoughts when I do it, takes some negativity out of my head and gives me some perspective. It can be only for you and you won't hurt paper that's just what it is. Also I came to the realisation that I need to keep reinventing myself over and over in order to survive and not dwell on the past. Focus on your blessings. Life IS beautiful and the future is exciting! always!! Any way I hope you feel better dear. In years from now you will thank the strong UNI student that was able to push through what you're dealing with right now. Have a great day! 💐

@@TK7-VB I'm not talking about her, "we" as the audience are watching from the perspective of her second self. Im talking about the white door behind her before the camera pans to the mirror. You actually see the cam operator & cam assistant reflection brifely through small sqaure glass.
@@TK7-VB It is entirely possible. This story is unique in so many ways, that the reflection may be what you say it is. Personally, I thought it was a sort of signature for the creators who made this piece, so when they watch it, they can see themselves for a split second. I leave things like that in my films as well, but I make it a part of the story...so you could be right.
For some reason it doesn't feel "wrong" to see them crew in a reflection. To me, it feels like "of course there's someone with a camera recording this" and that context makes the VFX all that much more impressive.

+Scott Manley Whoa, small internet isn't it?
+Scott Manley well hullo there!
+Scott Manley You have to admit that this is awesome motion capture. Really looking forward to the making off if they release it. I have bets on that what we think is real in this video isn't.
I want more of Chemical Brothers + Beck, the combination is mesmerizing

Skipping Like A Stone
Listened to this song at their most recent show in Bogotá last weekend. It's been one of the most beautiful moments I've ever had in a concert 🥹💜
Nice.
Agree. There is something about the live version that just makes this song come alive. A different introduction and some different sounds. It’s wonderful. I’ve been lucky enough to see the “chems” several times , both as. DJ set and their tour. I have several tickets for their events in the U.K. this year. Cannot wait.
Yo igual!! ame este set en el ESTEREO PICNIC!!
they came to colombia???? 😭😭😭
Quien como tu, es una gran cancion!!!
The fact I’ve been so blessed to see this masterpiece live… a memory I’ll always hold
How much did you get paid.

Wow I bet that was awesome.
Alexandra Palace... this was awesome.
This is a genuine piece of art. Beautiful, poignant, heart-breaking brilliance from start to finish.
Transfixed from the moment she looks down and throws her hands up. Absolutely stunning video.
Beautifull... the melody, the sound, the dancer, the Choreography, the Vibe... love this
She is so beautiful dancing in all her pain, sensibility and strength! Fantastic!
What a breath of fresh air. This is love and beauty on a inter-dimensional level. Dynamic. I am blown away. Not very often does a song spark emotion like this. Brilliant.
That glance she gives is so powerful. One of my favorites for sure
Me too
ima look for it
Same thought
She can be very dramatic. And sexy!
I know that look
I have started to love Sonoya Mizuno, the woman who is also a dancer. How gracefully, how passionately, look how she dances! She injects meaning both into the visual space and the song, the aural space!
She lacks grace and precision. Glad you're getting into contemporary dance, but there's much better stuff out there. Enjoy!
I'll keep an eye open for your ChemBros video then, shall I? Then you can show me exactly how it should be done.
@P Romich And you lack benevolence!
looks pretty good to me, fits the jerky mood of the song and puts some form of meaning to the sentiments, plus the precision it must have taken for the numerous takes to add in and over lay all the special effects must have been quite demanding to say the least...and, to top it all, Sonoya Mizuno is stunningly beautiful
Yeah you should see her in Devs! She’s a heck of an actor too
One of the best pieces of musical art I've ever seen and heard
Listening to the song after 3 years, what a nostalgic feeling ...
This comment is my life
I’m right there with you. Those parts of the song that send you straight back to 2016
The Chemical Brothers are rare gems able to create timeless electronic music that barely ages.
This is awesome for a number of reasons. One seamless take, moving camera, camera doesn't even show up in the mirror when it moves around behind her, ... . Obviously lots of post production. Great video!
there is a "making of" this video on youtube. It is very interesting,
This song brings me to tears every time I listen to it because it reminds me of the time frame where I was losing my little sister to psychoses, slowly over time... She chose to leave this world/reality in 2012 and I tried so hard to get her help... But being the older bother with parents that didn't want to have an intervention, I couldn't do anything to help her/get her help. I love and miss you, Kelly. I'm so sorry I didn't try harder.
❤
SO SORRY TO HEAR THAT...praying you heal

I can only imagine, but I truly believe in what you said! This video it is part of the part that everything is art ❤

Masterful graphic art - a classic. The mirror shot is impossible! A synchronous symphony.
A shiver down the spine everytime I hear this song.
Sonoya Mizuno is so magnificent!!
The music video is like an extra instrument to this song. The visuals genuinely enhance the song, which seems rare for music videos these days.
THANK YOU.

I've been listening to this since it was released and I will keep on listening to it. I can never grow tired of it nor the video!
How is your dad now?
i think the meaning of this is when you dance, you let g of your ego and you forget everything and live the moment as if it was the last. this is beautiful
Was lucky enough to see a talk from the Mill, the VFX company behind this video. One of the things they said was that in their retakes, Sonoya Mizuno was perfectly accurate in repeating the dance which was incredible
4 years later and still listening to this song.
Me too :) Good music never get old

Can we stop for a minute and appreciate the shadows projecting off the CG on the floor and her skin? Holy! Is that cool.

Es un gran trabajo visual!
Yes 💙💙💙
In fact, it was not a happy 2020
One of those art pieces that has beauty in every single element of it.
Brilliant work once again, dear Brothers
You can't just leave a comment on a video like this. I have to craft an appropriate response that articulates the emotions that are conveyed by the imagery and sound. That deep soulful look she gives the camera at the beginning of the video describes what she knows is coming, and that is her entire body becoming synthetic as she dances. It speaks to all of us as we become more and more attached to our phones and technology that we are losing ourselves, it's getting away from us. She knows the end result at the beginning of the video which is why she gives that sad stare, and sadly it's what's happening to all of us, Which is why this is such a touching video.
The process of slowly losing yourself, until there's nothing left.
She's following her own hallucination across the room
That is so true and a lot of people go through that
Sonoya Mizuno, best dancer ever
I keep coming back to this, pure artistry. Chemical Brothers and Beck always stand out in their repetitive EDM and fake fabricated pop enviroments respectively, of course Dom & Nic never fail to think outside the box and this video is no exception, Sonoya's performance in here obviously inspired by her role in Ex-Machina and does a fantastic work in portraying an impossible transformation while delivering a fragile yet free spirited dance. The effects are beautiful, all of this is simply perfect, so perfect.
Cool story, sis.
mesmerising song and video!
+Sara Bennett great observation!
+William Weylts Everyone knows its the Templars we really have to worry about, not to mention the lizard people from middle earth! Iluminati are old news man.
This song gives me a nostalgic feeling of a special time and place. 😌
Just here to appreciate the beauty and art of Miss Mizuno. Very good clip and music of course. Art in every sense.
Sonoya Mizuno is such a great dancer and a goddess of beauty that walks among us...
An incredible actress too, a real gem all around
@@SaulBadmon Ex Machina was her finest yet!
Funny and strange, o like it

Can't spot this......? At exactly 3.26? You can see a film crew passing a window?
no, i think it was something like objects on the wall in that room behind the door, and it was not running, it moves because the angle of view changes
@@betacaroteno12 you have no idea how much I needed this. Thank you. Hope you re well and hope that everyone s getting along with the idea that even tho life s hard we can do it and it s so much good in it.
I hope you are ok, life can be hard at times and as we grow older we understand this more and more. This song came along when my wife of 30 odd years moved out and left me with a house and family to run including 2 dogs. Never under estimate the power of music, to console or uplift. All the best.

I leave things like that in my films as well, but I make it a part of the story...so you could be right.
its the other her reflected walking to the other mirror :)
wrong. not the crew
For some reason it doesn't feel "wrong" to see them crew in a reflection. To me, it feels like "of course there's someone with a camera recording this" and that context makes the VFX all that much more impressive.
This is one of the best VFX shots that I have ever seen, for people tha don't know, this is a extremely hard thing to do.
