I just heard your story and immediately came to the comments to see if you were here! I was so moved by your story as a mom myself. I just want to give you a reminder that you are a FANTASTIC mom and your daughter is so blessed to have you. You are doing everything you can to give your daughter a better life and she will grow up to be an amazing woman because of the examples you are setting for her. I know things are tough right now, but just know that she's going to remember how strong you were during this time and how you loved her so much that you stayed strong to make all of this happen. It may be too late in your area to sign up for something like Angel Tree because I know they usually have cut-off dates. If so, I would highly recommend posting on a local mom group, even if it's anonymously, to see if there are any local moms looking to adopt a family for Christmas! I see moms in my local groups posting about looking for your type of situation to help out all of the time or others posting about low-cost ways to help out their kids for Christmas!

@cherieaspen3859 - 2 things 1) My mama was like you once upon a time. It's SO HARD but you will get past it and it's worth it! I remember some of the struggles in my younger years but by the time I was in upper elementary grades, she owned a home, I went to a good school, we lived in a nice small community, and I had opportunities that allowed me to be a successful adult myself and then give my own daughters (now adults) even more opportunities. Keep going!! For yourself and for your child. This WILL pass and you will come out on the other side knowing you're so strong & that you can handle ANYTHING. 2) If you can share your Venmo, I would love to send you a little bit. Being a single mama is already hard. Feeling like you have nothing is worse. No mama should feel that way. ❤

I have never heard a story of someone so strong. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU from every child who’s mother didn’t do the hard work you’re doing right now. Thank you for everything you are doing for your baby. She will be so fucking proud of you and thankful one day. You are doing the hardest thing mentally and physically ANYONE has had to do. And god knows you are on the road to greatness, it’s hard, and it’s tiring, but remember how strong you are, how far you’ve come, you’re in the thick of it but you’ve already done SO MUCH. Just focus on today. You woke up, and you took a breath. I’m proud of you for that. Take each day as it comes and each trial and tribulation one at a time.

Coming from a daughter who was in an abusive household and whose mom didn't leave until 32 years later, u are amazing. My mom was so incredibly strong to leave and I'm so fucking proud of her. But to hear that u left so early just brings tears to my eyes. U have saved ur daughter from so much pain. I'm also a nurse and I'm so so so proud of u for sticking with ur education. Don't stop fighting 💖

To the single mother in a shelter with her daughter... IT GETS BETTER! I was in a shelter with 2 young children, I had absolutely no clue how I'd get through on EI while dealing with depression and attempting to get into school. I did it one step at a time. Take a deep breath, look at the very reason why you breath (your child) and fight the good fight, you're doing everything right so far, keep going!

Story 3: I was once that little 5 year old girl and my mom was in your exact shoes. I never once thought my mother was failing or struggling, I only knew that she loved me and I loved her and that we were living life the way we could. You are doing great and trust me it gets better, my mother is the strongest woman I know and she did everything for me, and I will always be grateful for her and how she cared for me even through all of her trauma ❤️

Story 2: Your husband family are abusive. Stop seeing his family. Block them everywhere. Wny subject your child to abuse? If your husband wants to go, he can go alone. However, as someone from an abusive family, he needs to put his mental health above his family. They are toxic, and they will not change. Tell him he will be happier when he cuts contact and surrounds himself with loving family and friends. Trust me, you will be happier. I don't speak to 95% of my family, and I live in another country across an ocean with loving friends and family.

Story 2: Your child is not missing out on anything by you putting distance between your family and your in laws. If they'll treat your husband so poorly, it will trickle down to your son. My family is fairly toxic, and my toddler doesn't need to be exposed to that. He gets all the family love he needs from my in laws. And that's okay! He'll grow up only knowing love, and that's what you want for your baby. I would stop trying to associate with them, especially at the holidays. Make that magic your own for your family.

ALL OF THIS ^^^ If they have made an effort, why should you? PersonaIly, I don't know hardly anyone on my dad's side of the family. His mother told him that his dad passed away in the mail with no return address. Only reason my dad knew it was his mom was because the letter was written with a typewriter. If any of these mostly nameless and fully faceless people tried to come into my life for any reason after my dad passed, I'd be suspicious. OP's spouse should look out for predatory behavior in the future.

Story 3: I've been there. My daughters bio-dad was abusive. I finally found the courage to leave when my daughter was 9 months old. It was scary and hard. Getting on my feet again with 2 kids under 4 while constantly looking over my shoulder, afraid of what my ex might do. It was so hard but that was 2 years ago. My ex eventually got bored when he realized he had no control anymore. I haven't heard from him sense a few months after I was granted full custody. My local domestic abuse agency helped me get into an apartment and helped me find counseling. Me and my kids are thriving now. We have an apartment that we love. My current boyfriend is amazing and has completely taken over the roll as dad for my daughter and bonus dad for my son. Take advantage of all the resources you can. Everything helps. And therapy. Therapy helped me so much. It's a struggle but it gets better. Never give up and know that your daughter loves you no matter what. She knows how hard you are trying so don't stop. You're stronger than you feel. You got this. Trust me.💜💙

For the couple who’s partner is going home and leaving her behind:
My ex partner of 11 years was like this after we moved in together. (We were serious for about 9 years before moving in.) He’d leave me behind to come home all the time. I hated that all our free time we ever got was always spent apart, because our days were pretty separate too.
We were in college and I only had a work study program, so every cent I made went to my half of rent. He had a NASA internship that paid about 50k a year. His mom paid for all his expenses, though, so everything left over was essentially play money. Often times I was left without money to even eat. During COVID, he jumped ship and came back home, leaving me behind too.
I know every couple is different, and maybe I’m just triggered here, but I don’t think the OP’s partner care for them as they care for their partner. I think maybe breaking up is a considerable option if they have a talk and the partner doesn’t help the OP ever get home.

Story 5: if you go, take your own alcohol. Don't share it with these aholes. Drink it in front of them. Enjoy yourself the best you can. I personally wouldn't go. Your parents need to stand up for you. It is better to have a friends' holiday than to feel like crap around people who treat you terribly, including your parents. Show your parents these responses. They need to see these. You are failing your child.

Story 1: Your mom needs therapy. Barring abuse, she is an adult and should be able to put her feelings aside to celebrate with her children. If she cannot, then celebrate with your dad without guilt. Your mom is trying to manipulate your family. Don't be fooled. She doesn't deserve the space in your mind.

Story 3: I am an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and SA. I too applaud you. I would say, have you reach out to other advocacy centers in your area? Some advocacy centers are able to financially assist you. For example, at my agency I can assist people with long term living and help them with deposits and rent. I would highly recommend you reach out to other centers because some even offer childcare and life coaching. Should no other centers work, in my personal life I find that waking up early to complete tasks I’m too busy for during the normal day really helps me, as well as taking time for yourself. And also remember, C’s do get degrees so if you need to skip a homework assignment to get the chance you have a break, do it. In the airplanes they say that if the mask comes down, put it on yourself before helping others. Make sure YOU are okay too while you take care of your sweet child. If you are in Oregon at all, I know of a few centers that can maybe help. Good luck!

For story 3: I would recommend her looking into being a travel CNA while she’s in school! A lot of companies will offer to pay for your CNA school if you sign a contract for typically a year. Once she is signed on to a contract she can pick up travel contract that offer housing in hotels during her “block booking” contracts. So it might not be a long term stay but it could give her a chance to save up with out paying for housing! I have a couple companies I can recommend depending on where she is located!

Story 2: I was/am the child in this situation. My dads side has always been cruel to him and my mother. For years my parents tried and as a 2 yr old I went to my mum amd asked her why dads mum (Nanna) hated her. Then the final straw was when I was 17 and Nanna tried to tell me how awful my mum was and how my dad was manipulated by her and my dad cut her off for good.
By not associating with his side you are teaching your child they don't have to be around people who don't want them. Even as a kid, you can tell and pick up when people don't want you there.
You aren't missing out on anything.

It is an amazing way to be able to give myself some mental distance in stressful situations. I find it very meditative.

It's terrible for your son to be around people who belittle his dad. People who are homophobic enough to use "gay" as an insult. There's no need to spend time with people who don't want to spend time with you.

Omg you are so right about it being ridiculous for every adult to have to buy a Christmas gift for every other adult! It’s always been such a hassle every year for me since I have a big family. And when you have to buy 7-8 gifts, the quality and monetary value of each gift decreases. I would propose a secret Santa for my family this year but I think it’s a little late at this point 😂

  • @mayalemaire
    @mayalemaire 9 месяцев назад

Re- secret santa. When I was younger the aunts and uncles would draw names for a child in the family to buy gifts for. Then it wasnt all aunts and uncles buy a gift for all nephews/niece's but one uncle/aunt does it for one kid and it changes each year. As a kid it was fun as we didnt know which family member had us each year. As an adult it must have been nice to only need to shop for one child and not 10+ children.
Now we are all adults so we did secret santa a few years and then it changed to a white elephant game with a focus on fun and not goid gifts and now nothing. Just getting together.

From my perspective, the step father put them against my husband as they were growing up - he just talked a lot of shit. We are still not besties with his sibling and step siblings but we have a lot more contact than we did before. Anyways, let me tell you, these people don’t like each other as much as they don’t like my husband. We’re not there to hear all the drama thank god but it’s there. In my family we do secret Santa between the adults & then everyone gets a gift for each of the kids, that way it’s really mostly about the babies being happy with all their gifts, but the adults also get something & everyone isn’t buying a million gifts 😅

Story 2: Your child is not missing out on anything or anyone, if he doesn’t know who they are. Some of my dad’s family was like that, I’m glad my mom decided not to put me through that, I was not apart of their shit show. No one especially a child deserves to be put in the middle of that. You and your husband need to start your holiday traditions and them special. It’s only my mom, dad, sister l, and niece that get together every holiday and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Story 3: to me it seems like financial stress is really affecting the writer, i think it might be the best to pause your education and pursue a full time job until life is stable enough to return to school
Im not familiar if that education program is easy to get back into but thats what i think my parents would do for me tbh
