- Is this the world's highest recorded power on a dynamometer?!? Andrew Alepa’s 7th gen Corvette made waves when it put down over 5200 horses on FuelTech USA’s Mainline Hub Dyno.
This record continues to amaze people still today! Let’s go a little bit deeper with Luis de Leon about that car, Pro Line Racing’s engines, 70+ PSI of boost, and the whole run and dyno used to achieve these crazy numbers powered by FuelTech FT600 and FTSPARK-8!

As a Brazilian I'm really proud of Fuel Tech, I can't remember another Brazilian Company or brand which has been created in Brazil and become a successful company in the USA.
EMBRAER mano. Não esqueça da embraer. Contratos e aviões pelo mundo inteiro.
Embraer is brazillian
Embraer, Havaianas e Fogo De Chão.
I was searching for a certain race cam for an engine that I was building, found a speed shop that had the part in stock for a great price. I called to order by phone and had the deal all set up when the guy informed me that they were located in Brazil so it would be like 60 to 90 days shipping. I unfortunately drive the vehicle daily so I had to buy it somewhere that would send it within 5 days. They do have some really good speed shops. Brazil also raced a really cool class of car called cutaways. I will try to find a video but they would build low budget vr6 gti engines and all sorts of tuner cars but they cut off the whole hatch including mounting area and spare tire well, remove all doors, hood so the car is 1400lbs and then they basically race in skeletons. They run 9s with modified cut out shitboxes. Its impressive. Like holey cheese cars.

He went and bought a stock c7 corvette and lifted up the radiator cap and wheeled a race car under it then lowered the cap back in to place! 👍
Steven’s Racecars built an amazing machine.
The way he explained everything was awesome
he had some mistakes and not language ones like at 6:46 there is no shifting on a dyno run and when he was talking about the torque converter when it is locked there is no power loss
5:58 in I never seen a car start to pop a wheelie on a dyno run that blew my mind. High revving, high horsepower, high torque, high speed what a beautiful recipe for high performance.
Yeeaaaahhh
That’s what we call torque! Supercharged
My first thought was that there is no way the car could use close to the 5200 HP level on the track. Well, I was wrong. RVW rules state that a big block twin turbo car weigh about 2750 lbs (Duck X rules). According to well respected published calculators, a 2750# car doing 220 mph to the eighth mile needs 4567 HP! The corvette was putting down over 4500 HP on a drag radios tire. Incredible.
so it still have some juice
@@tetracontrol wind resistance takes horse power too
dakota fickling Wind resistances probably accounted for. However they’re probably at race track with lot of heat and also it’s from the hub and the rubber does reduce the hp that is being put down.
4500 is probably the average steady HP, 5200 is the peak.
Makes sense
also as stated on the ad it weighs 2950~ lbs so that might account for som e of the unaccounted for HP aswell
Once I got in a fight for telling someone that some cars can reach 200mph+ in about 3secs. It was the 90's. He's dead now.
Holy crap 0-200 mph in 3 seconds!!!! and people thought 0-60 in 3 seconds was fast
Bigger perspective
Top fuel cars do 300 in the same time😳
The new hummer does 0-60 in 3 seconds. And it weighs 9000lbs
I was thinking that same thing. check-in the mail.

There is no reason an electric brake dyno like this cannot be built any size.

WOW!!!!!!! I worked in Top Fuel, I've worked in all sorts of drag racing, point of me saying that is that this still is just mind-boggling, truly incredible!
I didn't even know that there are dynos than can take and measure so much power.
Why not ? Dynos are a faily simple device, like an electric motor but in reverse. There is not limit to how high hp you can build a dyno.

Very nice!
Great
235k for this car is nothing... Is the best buy ever!
Perspective: 117,5k gets 2500hp, 60~k gets 1250hp
VERY good HP/Dollar on this car
Way cooler than a Hypercar for less money. If I was a billionaire, I would buy one and drive it on the street. So what if exhaust kills 200HP, I still have 5000 left.
Could get a pro mod capable of 4500hp on blower and lays down 3.79 on an 1/8th for 80k... So the vette could be beaten hp/dollar.
Those saying you can't have anything that adds power, consider this, the rotating parts of the engine have momentum and when the converter locks the torque will slightly spike. An impact wrench makes little torque until it locks up multiplying it's power many times what it really makes
No.
Wow...! 💪🎓👏👏👏
Car so fast that poor man was allowed to blink lol

I want to see these cars geared for a standing mile and run it
Would be sweet to do that, turn her down a bit and go out and run some 300+mph miles.
It would not stay on the ground .
Yah that would be difficult, you're sustaining those high speeds so much longer than let's say a top fuel dragster that's only above 300mph for less than a second. Of course aero is a whole different thing to figure out.

Brasileirada invadindo o canal da fueltech em inglês!
I'm guessing that power multiplication from the transmission probably doesn't adulterate that number very much maybe a little more or a little less like he said but the drivetrain is a parasitic drain so my guess is that number is probably on the lower side of what that monster is actually making and that is very impressive for a motor that's not guzzling nitromethane
if it's fueltech i believe it

5200 hp god damn !! The engineering on that engine tho
I see Steve Petty helped with tuning that Vette. Kinda tells you all you need to know. He has also been working with Justin Swanstrom and his screw blown Lexus. Complete with new paint and a new combo,...Steve appears to have that thing RRRRROLLIN'. Just watched them testing, and it looked really quick. And consistent. Big Country has always done a phenomenal job tuning Justin's car. But in the tuning world,...it doesn't get any better than Petty. He also knows how to set up a car to track straight down the track.
Corvete+2ebay turbos+Ms1= done
Fuel tech is where it’s at them and holly
You won't see a gear change in a Dyno run, you Dyno in 1:1 gear only
you will if you want to compare to race track conditions. Gears that have more ratio that 1.0 will add torque to the wheel and thats how you run at the track.
Damn 235k doesn’t sound that bad for that wild machine! 🤘🔥 can you believe what a field of 5,235 actual horses would look like 😂😂
That's a rocket ship? Such a gorgeous car. 💪👍 Aussie Fan 🤘🇦🇺🆒
Nothing adds power. The engine makes the power it makes. The drive line only detracts from it.
The fact you are the only comment pointing this out and I am the only like makes me loose faith in humanity.
So true 101 stuff really
torque is a force under rotation. If the rotation is steady, the moment of inertia does not do much. If you are trying to increase its speed, the inertia hurts your force being applied, but if you try to decrease its speed, the inertia can add to your force to "fool" a higher power reading that does not come from the power generated by the motor, as you are 100% correct, the motor does what it does, but its natural inertia can increase its power output at the axle during a gear shift.
@@voodoom4nyou are absolutely right and any shop using this peak as a power number is still talking shit, thats like saying my 50hp car makes 1000hp if I have a heavy flywheel and a stiff clutch and clutch kick it.
Plus the dyno should smooth out the curve anyways to give an accurate reading and not weird torque spikes...
@@laurean5998 This is were we try to make things clear, that power isn't the motor, but it is seen by the tire. On a drag race that number matters because of how hard it is to keep the "tire happy", to make sure you dont have excessive slippage or suspension wrong doings. If those numbers are ignored, you will loose some valuable data used on your tune. On this particular car though is a little bit different as it peaked power already in high gear and with the transmission locked up as the boost curve is really long, so it didn't affect the highest reading but affected the power delivery.
What is the maximum HP the dyno will read?
typically dyno runs are done in one of the middle gears from low to high rpms without shifting. You don't shift in a dyno run at all because it throws off the curve and there is no need or point in doing so.
This is a Hub Dyno.. you can drive on it just as you would in a track.
That means you can launch off the trans brake if you want and row through the gears as you would in a race.
the valve caps are still stock
What is the Limit of the Dyno? Just curious
Ah como eu queria o Luizin colocar o sotaque gaúches quando ele fala em inglês rsrs

Anybody know what happened to Daniel pharris dude was bad a driver I believe that power plant was also first in the 50 on Daniels mustang
Do you only dyno car with FuelTech? How about Holley EFI?
So what's better, Big Super charger or twin turbo's?
Current record is held by Stevie Jackson, 3.54. Supercharged. But the others are right there, i know a nitrous car went a 3.57 at the last race, tuned by, Stevie Jackson.
Turbo engines make 20-25% more power than superchargers due the amount of power the engine uses just to compress the air with a supercharger. These are not mechanical losses btw. This is why the turbo classes must run more weight that supercharged to help level the playing field, amd why all classes of motor sport, from tractor pull to f1 are dominated by turbo, where the rules allow. Turbos are banned in top fuel as the nrha doent want top fuel any faster. Steve Jacksons car was allowed to run less weight due to less power in supercharged.
This just in.... morans billet bullet just put down 6200 on a hub dyno
My 40hp two stroke racer feels like a grain of dust compared to this behemoth
I have a question 🙋♂️ I always wondered why so much hp ? Even on the fastest pass how much of that 5,235 hp do you actually put down if it was to hook
They need this power to go fast. As explained with a turbo'd engine they have to run in the heaviest class. To go 200mph in 3 seconds with a 2700 pound car you need 4500HP. This car weighs more and once they are at the end of the track they are using all of the HP the engine can make.
Why so much HP? because that is what is required.
How much of that is actually used..all of it.
Do nhra pro mods make more????

Don't forget the Hurst 4speed shifter with pool ball grip and footprint gas pedal!
@@philsmith5829 That adds at least 15 - 20 hp...
@@iflex1963 Gotta add the Top Fuel Wing on the back of the front wheel drive car to hold all that added power!!
I'm pretty sure but not 100% positive but I think on both tire on dynos and hub dynos they don't do full power gear changes or use 2step or Trans break due to longevity of the dyno's. They run through the gears into top gear and then do the hits from a low rpm. And like I said at the beginning I could be wrong and love being proven wrong because I love learning. But that's how I ran my 51 Chevy business coupe with a Lingenfelter 454 tweaked to the max. And every dyno video I've ever seen.
