Cool seeing Steve’s eyes light up when told spark plugs leak. What m sure the manufacturers never anticipated the heat and pressures that are being applied these days.
I have a video on my Instagram - daughter's mini-van was shooting combustion gasses (actual fire!) out between the porcelain and the metal housing - never would have believed it. She unplugged that plug wire, and limped it home - a four-dollar fix!
Although business is built around secrecy, it’s nice to have these guys share a bit of their world and have some common ground. As Steve said, we’re not enemies… they both have their shit together and running their own businesses successfully!!! Hats off to you guys and the Awesome stuff we get to see kickin butt on the track! Thanks for sharing!
we use autolite in ump mods. (6-650 hp. 9200) chip porcelin get loose. 4-5 times on diff. cyls. did not seem to affect anything. plug and cyl and piston during leakdown and bore scope . Ill bet steve has seen it happen too.
@@georgelaramore6529we had one in a mod I can’t remember if it was the ump mod or sport mod motor because that car had been both at one point or another but it blew the porcelain clean out of the plug and just left the threaded metal portion of the plug in the hole
Doug is a fantastic machinist. Met him in the early 90’s, when he was with Barnett Performance, and he use to do some outlaw racing, back then. I haven’t talked to him in years, but it’s good to see he’s still in it.
We had a spark plug tester in 1974 at my HS auto shop class. It only used Shop air pressure, but we could find leaking plugs and check spark at 120psi.
The spark plug tester at pro line is a suprisingly a really good idea. Compression leaks can cause an engine to go lean , I had'nt thought about a spark plug causing those kind of problem's.
Your video's never fail to make a impression Steve. I could see you and your friends making racing spark plugs to. Thank you for posting all the great videos on your channel
Spark plug testers are standard equipment at any (AMO) aircraft maintenance organization involved with piston engines. Usually clean and check the plugs every 50 to 100 hours of operation. The copper seals get replaced or annealed every time a plug is installed.
That was excellent ! Very ,very informative and a reveal into some problems of today's world. Those plug testers remind me of the old Champion spark plug testers found in every corner service station . ( same principle). Many thanks.
these videos are really kind of cool and informative. so cool to see how everybody just gets along and sees each other's work and appreciates it. that spark plug tester is really cool.
Good to see builders showing there stuff! I would love to be a fly on the wall during a conversation between the two for just an inkling of the knowledge
Just want yall to know if it wasnt for Cleetus i wouldnt have found this page. Been hooked ever since. So definitely give him props!! Im sure you already have lol
This was awesome. The industry and market is obviously super competitive, this just shows the quality of the people (for the most part) is impressive. Kudos to you and Doug, an example for all.
I learned to drive in a 67 kadett wagon. My brother had beaten on it for a couple of years by the time I got it and was a certified death trap. Floor pans completely rusted out, no front clip except inner fenders, top cut off like a small truck, broken and crimped off front brake lines, sharp edges everywhere, no starter so you had to park it on a hill. The thing was unstoppable, the Duke boy stuff I did in that thing would get a kid taken by the state these days.
This is so badass to see 2 of my absolutely favorite engine builders together! I mean if I could afford an engine from either one of you it would be such a hard choice!
Steve Thank you for a informative and interesting video. So refreshing to to see Louis his energy and knowledge. Thank goodness we have intelligent young men like him and Kyle to keep this sport going.
8:50 that red Opel Kadett was a family car in Europe Bank in the late 70s & early 80s. Today: still the 1.0 to 1.6 liter engines are the majority of Europe's family haulers. Even in Germany on the Autobahn.
Fuel tech has become mainstream SO fast. An amazing product, an amazing team of guys, and amazing customer support. A recipe for success. Thank you for sharing the tour footage with us Steve. Very cool
@@gnarkiller you nailed it. Showing the abilities of their products on basically ALL the highest HP cars out really showcases everything as a whole. I come from the turbo import world. Where there are already MANY tuning platforms out that are tried snd true. But as far as bang/buck and the cross versatility of their FT series systems it can't be beat. They are JUST starting to be used in THE "DSM" world. But I have no doubt a year from now fuel tech will be the go to platform of choice. Yes you can pay $5k+ for a FULL standalone system like a Haltec or similar. But most people can't afford that, even if their features and safety thresholds are top of the line. The amount of technology you get in any of the FT products can't be beat dollar/dollar. User friendly, huge support network, excellent customer support that's driven to helping the big AND small guys, etc. Fuel tech is a game changer. And it's a blast to watch a company like them take off and blossom so fast. They deserve everything coming
I interesting seeing the machinations of these two successful businesses, I’m sold on Fuel Tech product as a world class operation! Proline have a different business model which I found interesting, there results speak for themselves! Great road trip video, thanks mate!🇦🇺🇦🇺
I remember my shop teacher said he knew a engine guy who could read rod bearings, he said that the guy could tell if there was too much timing in an engine by where the wear marks are on the bearings. Pretty cool stuff.
Never thought about factory bad plugs that much but makes sense especially with all the boost nowadays. You need to get a tester Steve and make a video testing them, that would be cool!!
I do a lot of snowmobile and outboard engines and I’ve had it happen 5 or 6 times where I’ve gotten a bad plug right out of the package, especially Champion plugs and once I had a bad NGK.
Great video Steve! It's really hard to find a shop more impressive than yours! Also, so glad you got Doug to show you around! Keep on with your SMX! Hemis are ridiculous with eating parts! I'm betting Louis has to be the highest horsepower guy in the world! Meaning the amount of hub dynoing high horsepower race cars than anyone! I'm betting you are the engine dyno king though!
12:16 Overhead power. In a manufacturing facility with many machines, a bus duct is run overhead through the building then bus plugs ( circuit breaker ) installed near where ever a machine needs to be. " SO type " cord is then run from the plug to the machine. While initially expensive, it allows for easy reconfiguration of the factory floor.
I still like your shop better not only because it’s in my home state but the the way you tend to be clean and efficient. The closest I have been to your level is working for Donnie Walsh jr. Even had the chance to help wire Tom’s red Nova keep up the amazing work and the awesome content.
Wild that they don't have cnc machines everything is hand done that blows my mind Also the amount of spare parts versus current engine builds just shows how fast they pump stuff out
Would love some insight on the tune calls that the cranks crack in fewer passes! Do the cars run much faster than the safer ones? How much more aggressive is way fatter a/f and a lot higher timing?
Great to see 3 great engine guys together in the same video in the same shop!
Seeing the light bulb pop on in Steve's brain when he saw the leak down tester for the plugs lol. Mint.
These Fuel Tech guys have a very impressive shop. Shows they strive for the best. Great way to spread the word by letting Steve post this video.
Fuel Tech has a channel and they dyno all kinds of cars and post it.
One goal- everyone go FAST! This is definitely not the Warren Johnson era in Pro stock lol.... It's great they all play well together.....

Louis needs his own RUclips channel if he doesn't have one. He is a natural on camera..
I feel like he’s just super busy, he would need to hire a film person! But I agree
He's in just about every video on the fueltech channel you should go watch it!

The Jet Ski left Steve speechless. That should tell you all you need to know. Ha, Lol. Definitely a damn good 2-4-1 shop tour video.
Opel Kadett was common car here in Finland and Opel enthusiasts have them still running and driving as summer cars. Cheers from Finland!

That’s where it’s at. High end stuff. Truly amazing to be able to see proline and Fueltech together. Thanks to everyone.

That is so amazing that 2 engine builders can learn new things and have such a good relationship 👍

1000hp on a jet ski! 😯😯 What's more scary? The insane speed of it, or having that huge turbo spinning @150k, 6 inches from your nuts? 🤔😂
1k hp on a ski is wild, thats a Yamaha gp1800r and i have a 19 model with a few bolt ons and its pretty sick, 85mph on water with 0-60 under 3 seconds
