Their rational side of their brain (if they can access it) will tell them that sony doesn't create ANY peice of hardware inside the ps5 pro. They must outsource every single component elsewhere. Now factor in the r&d development, as well as having specific RT technologies and upscaling technologies not even found in existing RDNA 3 gpus, the overall cost of things, $700 for this is actually not really crazy. Not to mention, it's not like they have stopped selling the original console! Can't afford the pro? Get the base. Should Nvidia charge less for the 4090? Maybe. But if you can't afford that, you can buy the 4060. People are ridiculous and want top of the line for budget price. Not remotely close to reality.

Problems with the PS5 Pro. 1. Mid-gen refreshes are not necessary. The XBOX One and PS4 were underpowered consoles built with off-the-shelf parts to save money and guarantee profit on consoles sold at or near launch. The PS4 Pro and XBOX One X were what we were SUPPOSED to get instead of the XBOX One and PS4. 2. I have yet to hear anyone either in person or online that owns a PS5 complain AT ALL about the graphics or performance. NO ONE........ The _consumer_ is supposed to have the loudest voice. Not the _developers._ Anyone that cannot achieve their "artistic vision" with a console as powerful as the PS5 which developers haven't even come anywhere close to maxing out needs to go find a different career because clearly they are not qualified to do this. If Nintendo can achieve their "artistic vision" with hardware that is over a decade old and only somewhere north of the 7th gen in terms of raw horsepower, developers should have no trouble with the PS5 which they haven't even scratched the surface with yet. 3. *NOTHING* Sony has shown warrants a consumer dropping $700 for a console, $80 for a disc drive, $30 for a stand, PLUS TAX. If you don't already have any PS5 games, tack on another $70 for *ONE* AAA game that justifies the reasoning or purpose for the PS5 Pro to exist, and you are at, or around $930 USD. Nah, bruh. You can miss me with this.
I agree so hard. Every other gen of consoles, mid run you'd begin seeing new games struggle or hiccup occasionally because the devs had maxed out the potential they had until they made pro equivalents. This gen, everyone 4 years in, are still begging for any good game to play period, let alone maxing out the potential. Releases in general have been weak for gaming.

This is for people that want that fedility mode but running at 60fps as opposed to 30 maybe with some other bells and whistles like improved lighting/ray tracing. It's for the enthusist. Not a lot of people are gonna care and are perfectly happy with their base ps5, that's fine, but some of us want the whole 9 yards without having to constantly choose between better visuals or framerates. This machine will blur those lines. Is that worth $700? Well, that's up to you to decide..

If the graphics card is roughly equivalent to a 4070, what do you expect in terms of price? That retails for 600 for just the graphics card alone. You are getting relatively good value still for a console.

I mean just figure out the optimal viewing distance of your TV setup and buy a TV that's the correct size. If you sit too far from a TV all sharpness becomes irrelevant.
Most of these games being demonstrated on ps5 pro are also ps4 games.... my guy we haven't even seen what these "next gen consoles" can do. No increase in fps. It just enables both 60fps mode and resolution mode simultaneously. If it say added 60fps to resolution mode and had the option for standard resolution but at an increased 120fps, I couldn't argue it's a Pro. But at as, it's just an amateur.
The problem with the Pro has been terrible messaging. People seem to like it once they get their hands on it, which means that the marketing has dropped the ball heavily. I really wish they had a driver- level FPS unlock feature on the Pro. Us with VRR TVs want to use it to the max- something that I can obviously do on PC.
The people who seem to like it are highly specialized players, usually content creators. That means for extreme enthusiasts that don't mind the exorbitant price, it's okay. Not for regular consumers though
I know it may seem early to talk about it, but I'm nervous about how much the PS6 will cost. Unless it can play all the PlayStation games in history maybe the price would be justified.
I’ll say it everywhere, I don’t care. I think we need to realize that the PS5 Pro is the Pro model of the PS5. You have to think of it as a MacBook vs a MacBook Pro. It is an enhanced PS5 experience for the enthusiast who wants what it offers. It’s not the PS6. You have the PS5 at $500 and the PS5 Pro at $700. It’s a pricey console, but it’s not for everyone. A lot of channels that got hands on are impressed with it, but they have also said it’s not necessarily for everyone. They are pitching 4K 120hz and even 8K which is not for everyone. Not everyone has 4k 120Hz TVs. Literally no one has 8K, so it’s just something where you need to think “is this for me?”. I mean, not everyone is buying a 4090, that’s a GPU for people who need it or the enthusiast who really wants it. This is a console for the enthusiast who really wants it and can utilize it. If the PS6 is $700 then 100% we riot. That’s crazy for a base console, but this is a Pro model offering an enhanced experience that realistically not everyone will benefit from, so idk. There’s a bit more nuance to this conversation. Fuck Sony for the disc drive and stand though. That’s bullshit and they are greedy AF for that.

This is EXTREMELY common in journalism. Especially with new products that can’t just be sent out in the wild. If you trust the reviewer and the fact they disclosed the trip was comped then you gotta just accept this is how the industry works. We will obviously get more first hand experience when it’s on sale for anyone to buy this is just an early hands on. If you trust Kevin less now that’s fine but to punish him for taking a trip to see an unreleased product that isn’t available at retail yet that seems like a big leap after year of good well thought out content

Everyone can have their opinion on this console I’m both a PC and PS5 owner and I will be upgrading to the Pro, the reason is I have an amazing top spec 4k TV and want to make the most out of my current set up. If I sell my current console the upgrade cost is only going to be an extra £399. I don’t see why people are complaining even if it isn’t a huge increase in performance, the smaller details which will make me feel even more immersed within the game is definitely worth the extra £. If you can’t afford it then don’t buy it

Maybe getting flown out and put up for an invite only event made you forget how expensive $700 is To put it in perspective. The PS4 pro was $399 when it launched, and it came with a disc drive. Now, the PS5 pro is $699, without the disc drive, and without the stand. If you want the disc drive, that is an eye watering total of $779 At that price you are in striking distance of building a PC that will stomp the shit out of the PS5 pro. There is no context where that price is acceptable.

Here in Brazil, in 20 minutes, all things from the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation were over. Here there is still the "normal" PS5 Pro for sale. I got the ps5 slim 30th.
I agree. This is a luxury item. If I didn't already have a PS5 I would 100% get the pro over the standard console. Maybe in a few years when I upgrade my TV I'll upgrade the console as well. Just the idea of Rebirth and Jedi Survivor actually running at full resolution with a steady framerate makes me really want one now. But at the same time, I can wait 👍🏽
Tbf all gaming consoles ever in history are a luxury item. Anything unnecessary for daily survival is a luxury item. Meaning the base PS5 is a luxury item. To give the Pro the excuse "it's a luxury item so we can forgive the unnecessary $200 extra" is an embarrassment.

The main thing I worry about with the pro is that developers will now give up on trying for 60fps on the base console and they’ll just have a 30 base mode and 60 pro mode.
The cpus are the same. If the game can't run 60 on base ps5 it likely won't on the pro (but it may be able to we'll have to see) But what is 100% true is if ps5 has trouble actually maintaining 60 the pro will always get closer.
Don't act like you wouldn't do the same if you were a videogame channel succesful enough to be noticed by Sony 😂. If he changed his opinion that's his problem, just don't buy the console and move on.
Everyone read this! After the last PS update my PS4 went into "safe mode loop" never had this problem before. After hours of being on the phone, emails ECT they told me I needed a new HDD. Luckily I had one on hand, but after about another hour I was in the same situation (clearly not faulty HDD) I reinitialised my PS4 because they told me it was my last option apart from buying a new Sony and loosing all my data. Long story short I fixed my Sony and didn't loose anything apart from all my saved clips and screenshots. But they tried to get my to buy replacement parts when it was clearly there dodgy updates to make us but new PS5. I'm unable to complain or make a complaint so I'm leaving this here.
I'm happy with Performance modes on the PS5 right now, because I have discovered, the distance I sit from my TV renders Graphics modes pretty much pointless for me. I've found it really hard to see differences in 4K to 1080 from the couch in my experience.

It would honestly be silly for any serious person to accuse those influencers who played Dragon Age of being shills for Bioware for a game that hasn't come out yet. Being a shill would mean that someone would only praise a product at every opportunity after it comes out & after that product has had a proven track record of being a failure. And also, many gaming companies don't let influencers release footage of previews of games. This simply may just be an NDA and ir embargo thing due to when and how bigger gamjng companies wants to market their upcoming products. But even with footage, the best experience of knowing if the Pro was for you to either find an opportunity to try it yourself at an event, and or wait until after the Pro releases to read and watch multiple reviews from sources that you and other people trust.

I was sold from the moment it was announced. Considering how much a couple of new games cost now days I just look at the price as if it was a console and games bundle.

Great overview. It's a luxury item, it's not meant to be for everyone and Sony isn't forcing you to buy it. If you have the extra funds and want current games and future games fo run better, it'll be the best way go enjoy it within the Sony ecosystem. I'd imagine GTA6 is going to be a pretty demanding game and when that comes out, the fans will wish they had the Pro model to run the best (console) version of it.

Problems with the PS5 Pro.
1. Mid-gen refreshes are not necessary. The XBOX One and PS4 were underpowered consoles built with off-the-shelf parts to save money and guarantee profit on consoles sold at or near launch. The PS4 Pro and XBOX One X were what we were SUPPOSED to get instead of the XBOX One and PS4.
2. I have yet to hear anyone either in person or online that owns a PS5 complain AT ALL about the graphics or performance.

The _consumer_ is supposed to have the loudest voice. Not the _developers._ Anyone that cannot achieve their "artistic vision" with a console as powerful as the PS5 which developers haven't even come anywhere close to maxing out needs to go find a different career because clearly they are not qualified to do this. If Nintendo can achieve their "artistic vision" with hardware that is over a decade old and only somewhere north of the 7th gen in terms of raw horsepower, developers should have no trouble with the PS5 which they haven't even scratched the surface with yet.
3. *NOTHING* Sony has shown warrants a consumer dropping $700 for a console, $80 for a disc drive, $30 for a stand, PLUS TAX. If you don't already have any PS5 games, tack on another $70 for *ONE* AAA game that justifies the reasoning or purpose for the PS5 Pro to exist, and you are at, or around $930 USD.

Every other gen of consoles, mid run you'd begin seeing new games struggle or hiccup occasionally because the devs had maxed out the potential they had until they made pro equivalents. This gen, everyone 4 years in, are still begging for any good game to play period, let alone maxing out the potential. Releases in general have been weak for gaming.

No increase in fps. It just enables both 60fps mode and resolution mode simultaneously. If it say added 60fps to resolution mode and had the option for standard resolution but at an increased 120fps, I couldn't argue it's a Pro. But at as, it's just an amateur.

The problem with the Pro has been terrible messaging. People seem to like it once they get their hands on it, which means that the marketing has dropped the ball heavily.
I really wish they had a driver- level FPS unlock feature on the Pro. Us with VRR TVs want to use it to the max- something that I can obviously do on PC.
The people who seem to like it are highly specialized players, usually content creators. That means for extreme enthusiasts that don't mind the exorbitant price, it's okay. Not for regular consumers though

I’ll say it everywhere, I don’t care. I think we need to realize that the PS5 Pro is the Pro model of the PS5. You have to think of it as a MacBook vs a MacBook Pro. It is an enhanced PS5 experience for the enthusiast who wants what it offers. It’s not the PS6. You have the PS5 at $500 and the PS5 Pro at $700. It’s a pricey console, but it’s not for everyone. A lot of channels that got hands on are impressed with it, but they have also said it’s not necessarily for everyone. They are pitching 4K 120hz and even 8K which is not for everyone. Not everyone has 4k 120Hz TVs. Literally no one has 8K, so it’s just something where you need to think “is this for me?”. I mean, not everyone is buying a 4090, that’s a GPU for people who need it or the enthusiast who really wants it. This is a console for the enthusiast who really wants it and can utilize it. If the PS6 is $700 then 100% we riot. That’s crazy for a base console, but this is a Pro model offering an enhanced experience that realistically not everyone will benefit from, so idk. There’s a bit more nuance to this conversation. Fuck Sony for the disc drive and stand though. That’s bullshit and they are greedy AF for that.

Everyone can have their opinion on this console I’m both a PC and PS5 owner and I will be upgrading to the Pro, the reason is I have an amazing top spec 4k TV and want to make the most out of my current set up. If I sell my current console the upgrade cost is only going to be an extra £399. I don’t see why people are complaining even if it isn’t a huge increase in performance, the smaller details which will make me feel even more immersed within the game is definitely worth the extra £. If you can’t afford it then don’t buy it

To put it in perspective. The PS4 pro was $399 when it launched, and it came with a disc drive.
Now, the PS5 pro is $699, without the disc drive, and without the stand.
If you want the disc drive, that is an eye watering total of $779
At that price you are in striking distance of building a PC that will stomp the shit out of the PS5 pro.
There is no context where that price is acceptable.

The main thing I worry about with the pro is that developers will now give up on trying for 60fps on the base console and they’ll just have a 30 base mode and 60 pro mode.
The cpus are the same. If the game can't run 60 on base ps5 it likely won't on the pro (but it may be able to we'll have to see) But what is 100% true is if ps5 has trouble actually maintaining 60 the pro will always get closer.

Oh dear, a bit shameless this.
Everyone read this! After the last PS update my PS4 went into "safe mode loop" never had this problem before. After hours of being on the phone, emails ECT they told me I needed a new HDD. Luckily I had one on hand, but after about another hour I was in the same situation (clearly not faulty HDD) I reinitialised my PS4 because they told me it was my last option apart from buying a new Sony and loosing all my data. Long story short I fixed my Sony and didn't loose anything apart from all my saved clips and screenshots. But they tried to get my to buy replacement parts when it was clearly there dodgy updates to make us but new PS5. I'm unable to complain or make a complaint so I'm leaving this here.

I'm happy with Performance modes on the PS5 right now, because I have discovered, the distance I sit from my TV renders Graphics modes pretty much pointless for me. I've found it really hard to see differences in 4K to 1080 from the couch in my experience.

Except this console comparison is more of a Mazda 3 vs a Mazdaspeed Mazda 3. Only slightly better. If it actually was Lamborghini levels better, the entire community wouldn't be against the Pro right now.

Honestly Sony could’ve avoided the bad publicity with actually doing this first then releasing the reveal. Have media talking about it then let the public know.
Kevin is not telling anyone that they have to buy the Pro. He's just sharing his new opinions after his experince. People are allowed to change their minds.

Agreed - Kevin and most people watching this video are the core audience who may actually see the differences so it makes sense that upon seeing it IRL he would better see the differences. That checks out in my mind. This console IS different on a hardware level so the fact he’s simply saying. It’s produced better graphics than the PS5 shouldn’t be surprising. That’s the point of the console.

Take people's changing thoughts on Dragon Age: Veilguard for instance. After many influencers got flown out by Bioware/EA to try out their new game, more and more people leaned more positive towards it.
It would honestly be silly for any serious person to accuse those influencers who played Dragon Age of being shills for Bioware for a game that hasn't come out yet. Being a shill would mean that someone would only praise a product at every opportunity after it comes out & after that product has had a proven track record of being a failure.
And also, many gaming companies don't let influencers release footage of previews of games. This simply may just be an NDA and ir embargo thing due to when and how bigger gamjng companies wants to market their upcoming products. But even with footage, the best experience of knowing if the Pro was for you to either find an opportunity to try it yourself at an event, and or wait until after the Pro releases to read and watch multiple reviews from sources that you and other people trust.

I was sold from the moment it was announced. Considering how much a couple of new games cost now days I just look at the price as if it was a console and games bundle.

Great overview. It's a luxury item, it's not meant to be for everyone and Sony isn't forcing you to buy it. If you have the extra funds and want current games and future games fo run better, it'll be the best way go enjoy it within the Sony ecosystem. I'd imagine GTA6 is going to be a pretty demanding game and when that comes out, the fans will wish they had the Pro model to run the best (console) version of it.
