Well most EV's can handle the Ike without running wide open. The Rivian R1T could probably still accelerate at a good rate even doing 60mph with the 8000lb trailer on the 8% grade.
@@erikstephens34 - if you pushed the R1T with that weight on it, you won’t make it home, or maybe to the next charger,,,, hahaha. I actually quite like the EV trucks for work trucks in the city and hauling, but they are just not ready for towing, especially commercially. Time is money and time at the charging stations is expensive when you are paying someone. If you are bidding on time sensitive loads you will have serious constraints placed on you as well. Hard to make a living that way. As a weekend warrior rig and not going too far,,, well maybe.

But the R1T was nowhere near using its full 800+ HP on the Ike even with an 8000lb trailer load. But the R1T was never intended to be a long haul trailer rig. There are new EV trucks coming to market in the next couple of years that will tow even better and charge at over twice the speed.
I like the way this guy thinks, he realises the potential for electric motors in their effectivness of power delivery to achieve higher top speeds than ICE engines can achieve.

That motor has absolutely no practical use. You can’t run a top fuel motor capable of those speeds in a street car. I love ICE cars, I have a 67 Mustang restomod, fuel injected and 4 wheel discs, new suspension and lowered 1 inch, 67 C10 rebuilt to appear stock plus fuel injection and 4 wheel discs, original 67 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed manual, 42,000 miles, 2nd owner, 1928 Model A pickup, original, 72, 240Z, 74 260Z, 80 Vette, restored so far I will never get my $$$ back,,, hahaha, 1990 Chevy 454SS pickup, stock and 40,000 km 2nd owner, 79 GMC Short box stepside 4x4 with 502 and Tremec 5 speed, 71 GMC Sprint, being restored and converted BACK to an automatic. I love ICE , but I think it’s time for me to learn more about this company. I have access to a 69 Mustang Coupe I could purchase that is solid body wise and a hot mess everywhere else haha. What a great platform. The car is quirky to begin with! It’s inevitable,, might as well embrace it.

I really like his explanation of the “Why” at the end of this video….. Perfect!! Why did I put a 502 big block, with a Tremec 5 speed transmission behind it, in a 1979 GMC shot box stepside 4x4??? Because!! I could do it, had all the pieces and it’s fun,,,, not so practical, but fun! I have access to a 69 Mustang Coupe that is solid structurally, but the res is a basket case. What a great platform to start a quirky build!! I suspect,,, if I want to shell out the cash,,,, I could order something exactly like they have here, properly prepare the body to drop back on this assembly, toss an interior in there (so to speak) and go!! No tuning, first start jitters, nothing! (Although these activities can be fun as well.) be very fun lifting the hood and displaying a “Frunk” vs a nice 345,,,, . Hmmmm.
While I'm sure there will be people who get angry over the fact that going green isn't his motivation for exploring electric power (likely the same people who call the 1.0 liter Fiesta that I commute in a "polluter"), they shouldn't. In the end mass EV adoption will require multiple means of appealing to consumers, and personally I like this guys approach, I'd definitely prefer to drive around in the full sized equivalent of the RC cars that I tore up the driveway with as a kid than the rolling iPhones being sold now. I'd even go so far as to say that one of the coolest EVs being offered is that kit that's modeled after a Tamiya buggy from back in the day, just wish is was commute capable.
Very cool performance engineering. Efforts like this will make the EV world better in the long run, and it creates a lot of excitement for enthusiasts who aren't never-EVers. "We're doing this...because the power behind it is massive. ...it's more fun."

I want to convert my Minivan into an EV with the best technology there it is, and to have a long range mileage, and being able to charge with ANY charging system- Tesla, Electrify America and the sort. So where I can find such a builder? I have a 2010 Chrysler T& C 4.0l with full power controls.
Combustion engines have evolved for centuries and these EV's are still in their infancy. The sky is the limit. Battery technology is just getting started. I expect great things from the EV revolution. Not everyday usage but extreme speed and acceleration.
I’m trying to understand why for a Bonneville speed run maybe a 2 speed transmission might actually be beneficial. At a certain frequency don’t induction motors reach a point of rpm max and decreased torque? Whereas with the ability to drop some rpm might be able to get back into the design operating rpm and torque of the motor? Many of the drives that run induction spindle motors that are under constant load have to use something called field weakening in order to make the rpm climb but that reduces torque and the higher rpm is used for smaller less torque demanding tools so it works. I’m curious to know what frequency the inverter is putting out at 350ish mph and how many poles the motor has. I want to know if and what kind of serious magnetic shenanigans are being played on these motors. 😀
I'm all for his "simplicity means fewer parts to break" theme for not using a transmission. Porsche uses a 2-speed transmission in their EV, so there may be some merit in it like you say. However, it's probably not economical to do so for regular cars. Teslas are among the most efficient yet go 155-162 MPH on one ratio. Elon Musk said at 162 MPH, the motor is spinning about 19,000 RPM.

I think you may want to edit again and change nuisances to nuances. Pretty crazy how much those two letters change the meaning of that word in your application.
From an engineering perspective this layout makes absolutely 0 sense. Weight distribution has to be adjusted with battery placement. The drives haft is just unnecessary rotating mass.
How can it be a Hot "Rod" when there's no rods? Based on the description of what they did to the motor, maybe it should be a Hot Rot (short for Rotor).
1000 ft-lb at 1rpm isn't that amazing like he suggested. A child could produce that by hand, it's just torque multiplication. 1000 ft-lb @ 10,000rpm is a different story.

Seems like a lot of wasted space with a drive shaft when you could direct drive the rear wheels.
