This is AWESOME!! I was a teenager when the DeLorean came out and absolutely loved them. Later on I had a chance to buy one, but was really underwhelmed with the ride experience. Now you've got me back wanting one. Yours to be specific. :-)
I just watched this again after 3 months and was again so impressed. My son and I are swapping the PRV engine in our DeLorean for a second PRV engine and that is hard enough, let alone what you are doing. Looking forward to your next video.
Great update, I'd definitely like to see sealing the battery boxes and getting that cooling and the ac working and a successful DCFC, and beyond! It's amazing you've actually pulled it off, and shaving a half second off the 0-60 of the Bolt(4.5 seconds off the DMC-12) just the cherry on top!
Just found you; this is pretty much a dream of mine. I leased a Bolt for 3 years and loved it; what a great platform to build off of. I always used to want a DeLorean back when they were 10k for a decent one ... now they're pretty much unobtainium and it makes me sad I'll probably never own one. Enjoy this beauty; it is a work of art and looks like it's going to treat you very well. Cheers!
I really enjoy the enthusiasm you show as you go through the project. You seem like you really enjoy what you've done and you should! It's amazing work!
So happy to see it running!! I really felt the surge of motivation you mentioned after getting the tires to spend. It's been a long journey getting to this point and I'm so happy that you've allowed us to be part of it--I remember there being a period where it didn't feel like the effort of making the videos seemed worth it since you aren't getting the views you deserve, but I'm so happy you stuck it out for us so we can be here with you. Can't wait to see the next video!
This channel is amazing. Video editing is great and audio quality is perfect. Audio is (for me as a consumer of YT content) the most important thing. You have a new subscriber.
Well, it's no Model X, but it actually drives like it should, and has respectable acceleration. Doc Brown would be proud of that conglomeration of cables and modules in the back!!🤣 Curious to see what it looks like with all the panels and whatnot back on. After seeing all episodes of Back to the Future, the EV screens and controls seem very fitting of your DeLorean, and it's a helluva lot more stylish than the CyberChunk.😆 👍👍👍
Great video, thank you for sharing! It would be cool to add some sound effects to be heard outside of the vehicle - like the electrical buzzing and crackling or some futuristic sounds from the Back to the Future movie.
Oh boy I'm excited for ya dude, I'm gonna be watching this! Can't wait to see more, I want to convert a Ford Ranger to a Tesla Model 3 drivetrain just never got around to it. Take it easy, Casey
"When This Baby Hits 0-60 in 6 seconds, You're Going To See Some Serious S***... I have been driving a classic petrol Delorean VIN 10389 for 4 years. Greetings from Poland and good luck with the project :)
I've been following this build. Great job and sweet car! The 0 to 60 will be a little quicker at a higher state of charge too. I can feel it in my Bolt it's quicker above 50% soc.
Awesome job. It would be amazing if you could power your house from it using the 60~kwh battery during a power outage. Seriously, I own a Chevy Bolt and I've been wondering if it could be done. Again, great job. I'll be watching for more. Thanks.
I’ve been wondering the same thing. My idea is to rig up a harness to the disconnect plug under the back seat, thru some PV cables and a breaker into the 400v rated PV hybrid inverter. Not exactly a cheap proposition considering the alternative is a sub $1000 dual fuel generator though.
LOVE this idea, and it is something that I have put some thought into. We have a massive solar array, and even a small battery would let us run indefinitely if the grid ever went down. Once the DeLorean is really buttoned up, this is likely going to be my next project.
@@wva5089 It uses two string inverters. I've got 90 410 panels, 37.9kW, connected to two Fronius inverters. One is 15kW and one is 12.5kW. On a clear day I am able to generate over 250kWh of electricity!
It would be interesting to see if it's possible to fit(hide) the charging port behind the rear numberplate ( fitting a hinge numberplate mount). It's great to see older vehicles getting a new lease of life through electric conversions.
Amazed at the 0-60 times! these cars originally did about 8.5 to 60.. thats a hell of an improvement! even in the volt, that drivetrain should have done no better than 8 secs...
Yes! Love the Yabert inspired Bolt integration. I’ve been following on DIY electric. I’m doing a VW Doka Tesla swap. Should have gone the bolt route like you…
The Bolt has some great components, but if I were to do it again, I'd definitely figure out how to use the motor, batteries, charger, but leave a lot of the rest of the modules behind. Wayyy too much work to build the wiring harness.
I do not know how this has never popped into my feed before. It matches every search I've ever done on RUclips. Any chance you might want to put together a couple thousand for sale? If they were priced reasonably I think that the nostalgia market along with the new generation of EV buyers would snatch them up with pre-orders alone. Maybe contact DMC, and GM for a possible deal to collaborate to help with passing regulations with minimal styling changes. I see DMC is pushing the Alpha 5 concept car, but honestly the "modern" styling isn't what I would like best about an EV DeLorean. The original is an Icon for a reason, and changing that eliminates its Icon status. A redo of the classic, iconic styling with a modernized drive train is what's needed, and you have done that.
I would LOVE to see more DeLorean EVs on the road, and while I'm sure there is a market for it, I don't know that the market would bear the price that I'd need to sell it for. A well sorted DeLorean will set you back $50k-$60k these days, and the amount of time to do the conversion would mean the price would have to be like $250k. That said, I just saw a place doing Porsche 964 conversions for $500k, not including the donor, which is kind of crazy! Let me be clear - if someone wants to pay me $500k to build a DeLorean EV, my contact info is on my channel page. :D
Someone did already do this, and with a hugely powerful motor at that. It was great because it moved like a bat-outta-hell. Don’t know about the range, though.
Oh, that part was easy! I just took measurements and sent off the axle shaft from the stock DeLorean along with the axle shaft from the Bolt. The Drive Shaft Shop then made a custom axle shaft that bolted right in place, utilizing the spline and bolt patterns from either side. You could do the same thing yourself by cutting the two and welding them together - but a professional shop can do proper heat treating. Cost about $2k!
This is an amazing project. As a current 2017 Bolt owner, I have a 91 Integra that I’ve fantasized about doing this exact project with. I wonder if you could run this drivetrain without the infotainment?
I'm sure you could, but I haven't seen anyone do it yet. Really hoping that someone takes on that project, as the drive unit and battery pack would be great for EV conversions!
The EV sound seems applicable to the DeLorean .Like it should have always been an EV. Well done.
Yeah, it reminds me of the sounds it produced in Back to the Future.
You should have 100 times the subscribers you currently have. This is one of the best builds on RUclips!
Awesome. Should do a 0-88mph. 👍
You're finally taking the DMC back to the future, where it always wanted to go.
I love how she sounds, too. You are driving the future (from the past).
In person it sounds even better! Sounds like a space ship taking off.
An all stainless EV that actually looks good.
Congratulations Bill. So satisfying that it all works and it is drivable. Your estimated 0-60 time was quite accurate.
Yeah, not bad, and once the car is fully charged up I think it'll drop down another quarter or half second.
Dang it! Now I gotta go ALLL the way back to episode 1 and start watching.
The fact that it booted up and ran with trivial fixes is a testament to your planning and careful process. Congrats!
0 to 60mph in 6 seconds... 0 to 88 in MINUS 1 minute!
Which is infinitely faster than the original delorean.
well done! is that with Marty or Einstein behind the wheel though?
Did he hit 88 tho?!
This is AWESOME!! I was a teenager when the DeLorean came out and absolutely loved them. Later on I had a chance to buy one, but was really underwhelmed with the ride experience. Now you've got me back wanting one. Yours to be specific. :-)
All that high-voltage orange and the inverter and charger in the back just need a Mr. Fusion sticker.
Well done on achieving a key project milestone Bill.
I just watched this again after 3 months and was again so impressed. My son and I are swapping the PRV engine in our DeLorean for a second PRV engine and that is hard enough, let alone what you are doing. Looking forward to your next video.
Nice! So much fun watching you in this journey, and excited to see where it heads next.

Well, beating the DMC 12 time is a Big achievement. Well done Bill.
Well Carlson, that is really AWESOME job man.
I wish you all best in finishing this project completely.
Bill, you’re my hero!! Keep up the amazing work. Seriously, that writing job was amazing!!
What an amazing accomplishment, Bill! Well done, congratulations!
This looks like a fantastic job. Very well done. I like the dashboard design. Simple and clean

I really enjoy the enthusiasm you show as you go through the project. You seem like you really enjoy what you've done and you should! It's amazing work!

So great to see those wheels move! Nice job!
Stay below 88 mph. I think I saw a movie where one hit 88 and went back in time by accident.
This matches back to the future better than the DeLorean from back to the future
Great Job !! Really nice content ! I cannot imagine how many hours went in this projects until now !
Oh man. This is my dream! What an amazing project.
congrats she's ALIVE!!!!! incredible achievement!!! 💯💯🤯🤯
How did I just find this channel! Great content
Congratulations the Best EV DeLorean conversion on YT

nice job, keep motivation, please keep the interior / exterior as original as possble
Very cool to see it running again. Nice work on the meticulous rewiring job. Your patience and perseverance are inspiring. Keep it up!
Current Bolt EUV driver here... I so want a DeLorean EV!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Your awsome !!!!! Doc Brown would definitely approve this great scotts.
Congrats on your first drive!!⚡️⚡️ We love seeing a new conversion on the road!
That is really a cool project! Love it.
great progress, this build is very clean
Well done mate, not your first drive but still a huge step and you must be really happy to get this far.

I come from Reddit and now i got to watch the whole series!
You are a legend.
Awesome project.
Loving this series!
Thank you, I'm glad you like it!!
This is quite amazing.

I'm impressed!!
I definitely subscribed, my favorite car and its electric, thats a double win.
Very cool project--I'll be watching more of your work, but I'm kinda disappointed you didn't test for 0-88.

On your list of things to complete I saw "Flux Capacitor". That's what I want to see you hook up😄 (my Bolt doesn't have one of those).
