On this video I am going to be reviewing my latest acquisition. The Rolex DayDate 40 in platinum.
The DayDate in platinum is a watch that has always had my attention, even with the DayDate 2. I mostly buy watches to re-sell them because that’s how I make a living. Right now there is not a lot of merchandise available, but when I saw this watch I new I had to buy it. Something about that Glacier blue dial that just talks to me. I feel that the older versions in the DayDate 36mm really did not have that same color that pops like the newer ones do. Although I love the DayDate 2 in platinum, there is something about this new style deconstructed roman numerals that I love. This particular one has what is called the Quadrant Motif dial, that is what sealed the deal for me. The Quadrant Motif dial has four quadrants with lines going in opposite directions that just give this watch an amazing look. This combined with the anodized blue hand makes it a winner.
The Rolex President in platinum is known for having a smooth bezel instead of the fluted. That is one interesting characteristic that I tend to love because it downplays that watch. When you buy a Platinum DayDate Presidential you are buying an understated big boy watch. Most people that do not known may thing that you are wearing a DateJust. That is what i like about it, But make no mistake. When you see The Glacier Blue dial and the smooth bezel, know that it is Platinum. The smooth bezel also lets people know that it is not a Rolex in white gold. More reasons why I love it.
This watch is a heavy hitter and I mean that figuratively and literally. Platinum is very heavy. I feel that it almost weighs double of what a gold on does. With all this in mind I would say that the DayDate 40 Platinum is the ultimate DayDate!
In the past I have expressed that I am a fan of the DayDate2 over the DayDate 40. It is safe for me to say that the Rolex DayDate 40 has grown on me. Although I still love the 41mm DayDate 2 the most, I can say that with the Platinum version I like the DayDate 40 the best. Sometimes I think that Rolex should have made the DayDate 41. The same dimensions as the DateJust 41 but instead they went with the 40mm case and in the end I feel it was a good decision. I do not know why I doubted them, they know what they’re doing.
The DayDate 40 in platinum is one of those watches where you can still get a lot of value. The retail price is $63,250 and you can pick one up in the range of $50,000-$55,000 in the preowned market. With recent increases in the second hand watch market I feel that it is one of those models where you can get a preowned one and still get a lot of value. Nowadays any of the yellow or rose gold Prezis are going for retail preowned. This make this watch even more interesting.
When it comes to the watch game this watch is a heavy hitter. This watch is only for the initiated and no one can deny that this watch in platinum is not a statement piece. I feel that this watch and the Daytona in platinum is the ultimate platinum line up.

We spent some time recently with our A.D. and got to see this phenomenal watch. I can not express the impact this watch has on you when you see it in person. The dial, the Roman numerals, and the weight all blew me away. Easily the heaviest watch I have ever held. Heavy in many meaning of the word. Commanding yet subtle. What a watch.

Just picked up a Platinum DD with 2021 new dial. Love how subtle it is with silver hour markers, hour and minute hands. Then it has popping blue second hand. I love the weight of it too. It checks all the boxes for me.

Stunning watch. Congratulations! I love the Day-Date! Personally I prefer the WG version (228239 with rhodium dial), I love the warmth of the white gold. But the glacier dial is amazing indeed!
Great video. Didnt even know there was a platinum 40mm President. Just a beautiful but not showy piece. Also love the smooth bezel. I bought a polar white Date Just 41 last year with Oyster bracelet and smooth bezel. Reminds me of my 36mm Explorer. Absolutely beautiful watch

The blue hands and numerals just gives it that extra touch. I love this dial and the regular glacier motif stick dial.
I also agree that platinum Day-Date 40s/IIs are in a league of their own. Platinum has such a beautiful hue and brilliant shine unlike any other metal.

First time I saw this watch, I was eating dinner at "Patsy's" in NYC, and a gentleman was wearing this at a table next to mine... the lighting in the restaurant was low, but it was enough to make this watch almost glow. It was almost indescribable, but it was unlike anything I had ever seen. I think you get a presence on the wrist like no other with this gorgeous watch. I want one!!

When all my kids (3) are through college and I am ready to start spend on myself, my grail watch is the platinum Daytona. I love the dial and the warm "blue" hue of platinum, and the fact that most people wont know its platinum is a huge plus to me. Those in the know will be able to tell from across the room because the color combination is very easy to spot.

Yeah I’ve been craving a light blue Rolex for a long time. That anniversary Daytona is bad ass as well as the day date you just reviewed. I also like that one with the crosshatched design I think it might be a date just. I think you’re right about the 40 mm.Especially as there seems to be a trend downward in case size. So looking forward to the coming weeks and the new releases from Rolex!

Hey Eric, great review. Love that watch. Not my favorite dial pattern. If I could get one, I would get the ice blue sunburst dial and baguette hour markers. The diamonds seem to hide a little in the blue. But that dail with the Roman numerals is nice.

I've always thought that people who put 50 grand in a watch were insane. But looking at it from a different perspective I realized that buying a valuable, well made wristwatch, in platinum or solid gold that is more likely to at least hold its value in 10 years is actually a pretty smart move IF YOU ENJOY IT not just as an investment. You hold the value in your hand whereas bank notes or numerals in your bank account is nothing but virtual. On top of that this watch is gorgeous! Congrats
8:06 the day date 2 actually did have ceramic coated pins (the gold models didn’t). It was a test run for rolex (so people think). Now all the day date 40s have ceramics coated pins

I owned the daydate 2 platinum and traded it recently for a patek. Since then I regret my decision. This watch always made me feel special for the exact reasons you just mentioned Eric.
I think I'll buy it back tomorrow. It's still available at the dealer shop.

I have the 268622 and i love it. The blue pops. This would be my heavy hitter in the future, still torn on the soft bezel, but it makes sense, it should stand out unlike the other DD's, its platinum!
