Greetings all, and welcome to my newest feature concept for sharing the fun and excitement of our hobby!. I've been filming simple reviews for four years, and those stripped-down videos won't stop, but VERSUS will be a regular Sunday feature from here forward. Let me know what you think in the comments below; you might even suggest a future VERSUS face-off! Best, Tim
Hi Andre, thank you for supporting my new format! I agree with you that the dials help the Day-Date 40 stand apart from the II; I'd opt for the 40 as well - in green, of course! Best, Tim
Great new format Such a wealth of possible comparisons within a brand and one brand vs another APRO 41 v 39 or v VC overseas VC overseas 2nd v 3 rd generation Daytona steel bezel v ceramic VC quai d lisle v 1958 (entry level VC) Patek calatrava 5296 sector vs non sector Etc I’m sure we’re all going to have fun with this segment!
Well, Watchfinder learned from the best ;-) I can produce 30 one-take videos in the time Watchfinder produces 2, but I don't want to limit myself to that level of output. I'm leveraging my production crew to complete the post-production on these in-depth features while I continue to produce in volume. 30 watches + 1 is the new normal around here. Best, Tim
Really like this new format idea! Hope it becomes a regular series. Would love to see a Royal Oak Chronograph vs Offshore Chronograph, Rolex GMT Master 2 vs Omega Planet Ocean GMT etc
Thank you for this feedback; VERSUS will air every Sunday going forward. I like your suggestions, and I'm going to book them for future episodes. Best, Tim
50K up watch using laser engraving dial... I'd expect it to use something similar to AP royal oak making the dial by mechanically engraving it the groove is so shallow and almost like in the same plane which makes it looking cheap...
Agreed, missed opportunity by Rolex. But again we're watch enthusiasts with attention to detail who's collective knowledge on things aesthetic can never be matched by a mass production line factory.
excellent new format, really loving it. i hope you can do DD 36 vs 40 someday, because the classic "president size" is 36 but the trend nowadays gravitate toward larger watches and sometimes the 36 labelled as unisex. curious to your opinion about it. i wouldnt have to think twice if they are offering DD at 38 (a WIS can only hope lol).
Hi DeRiot, thank you for this kind feedback and excellent suggestion. DD36 vs. DD40 is a natural shootout, and I'd love to revisit the Day-Date internecine Rolex battle in the near future. For now, the second episode of VERSUS has been filmed, and my team is going to prepare it to air next Sunday; we compared the JLC Master Compressor Extreme Lab 2 against the FP Journe Linesport Centigraphe Sport for a super-sports-chronograph "battle royale!" Best, Tim
You and me both. This series gives me a new way to have fun with watches, and it lets me break up the marathon days of bending over a camera! Best, Tim
Fantastic video guys I recently purchased the day date 2 in platinum with the ice blue dial which is my holy grail watch and only normally comes out on Christmas Day ha ha . my general every day beater is a non-date 2018 ceramic sub which is also fantastic all-round watch. I look forward to your next video . regards Jonathan in the United Kingdom
Very succinct with all the facts. Cannot remember without replaying as I'd have had to screen shot the specifications as I can't read that fast, if you are getting more 950 Platinum with the Day-Date II. The Day-Date 40 looks the prettiest and I would like one as it is my understanding that Platinum is the best traditional watchmaking material and harder and less prone to scratch than 18ct white gold. I know the 'Ice Blue' dial is Rolex's trademark for a Platinum watch, but I am not mad on the colour. I would always go for the batton indicies with Chromalight, even if you need bright midday Winter or summer sun with Ultra Violet light in it to make it fluoresce. The only problem with the President bracelet and Crown clasp is it has no micro-adjust system like Easylink and you have to wear it either too tight or loose and then it isn't winding the rotor properly with your wrist movements. Apparently you have to buy an extra link at nearly $2K for the Platinum and have an AD with the correct Rolex AD toolset: 3 colour coded torque pre-set screwdrivers with interchangeable colour coded heads, which must have a Rolex fact sheet covering all models for bracelet sizing. For a £50K watch, Rolex should supply the correct screwdriver as a couple of heads, but one AD in NYC on IG said they cannot supply parts or tools to customers. They also said the Crownclasp is discontinued, on the Baselworld 2018 released Lady Datejust with President, so I wonder when or if Rolex will produce the Day-Date with an Oysterclasp with Easylink. The dark background made it difficult to see the watches initially.
Hi Andrew, thank you for watching my newest feature connect, and thank you for your thoughtful feedback. The quick flash of the watch specifications was intentional; we put those fames in place so you can pause and read them at your leisure rather than extending the video beyond a watchable length. I'll look into the black background and see if we cannot find more light. As far as clasp adjustability, I agree that a micro-metric sizing feature would be welcome, and at this price point, it should be standard. Best, Tim
WatchBox Reviews I can see now that the black background enables the font of the white text to be easily read. Sometimes you see expensive companies using pale font an a clear background and it isn't visible.
Wowwwww..... serious awesome new format of the show. Side by side is alway the awesome way to do a comparison between watches. Great contents with details on both watches. Love the multiple video shots while doing the comparisons. Great job Tim & team.
Hi Alvin, thank you for sticking with us when our reviews were painfully simple! We'll still have the old-style wrist reviews, but this comprehensive showcase, "VERSUS," will become a regular part of our Sunday video releases here on Watchbox Reviews. Best, Tim
I really like that new series, I love the day-date 41 more, looks more buff, and the roman numerals, but i would wear the 40mm more as it looks more compact. I would get the exact color for the 41 but with real Arabic (similar to the Persian) Numerals , or get the 40mm with a light green dial. Thank you Tim for the great narration and all the infos :) Maybe next episode, have a Lange VS a Patek :) Best, Abdul
We think alike; the DD40 in white gold with green sunburst dial would be my choice unless a once-in-a-lifetime chance to purchase one of the rare Eastern Arabic numeral/platinum DD40 presented itself. I like the idea of Lange vs. Patek. We can shoot that this week; next weekend's "JLC Extreme Lab 2 vs Journe Centigraphe Sport" has filmed already for airing next Sunday. Best, Tim

The JLC vs. Journe is a legitimate battle. There will be go/no-go advice for different types of collector as part of my commentary in the "decision" section. Best, Tim
A few changes in the last week. You're keeping it fresh, but still familiar. Evolution, not revolution, much like these two models reviewed today. As always, good work Tim.
Thanks for noticing those changes, zzeuss87. Both here and on my broadcasts, I'm working to shift the tone and raise the quality. My goal since the beginning has been to craft an entertaining narrative, and I'm finally starting to feel that my personality is coming across in the videos. During the early days, there was such a scramble to film that everything felt a bit rushed and forced -- no longer :-) Best, Tim
WatchBox Reviews Your personality is the reason most of your viewers tune in. I like that I can no longer follow along with the word for word repetition found in previous reviews. I was beginning to think I needed treatment for addiction. How do you have time for a Sunday ride? Best of luck, z87.
Repetition isn't desirable, but I've always included it just in case somebody is watching one of my reviews for the first time or only intends to watch one video before a purchase decision. But for folks who watch all of my videos - and for me - the repetition is a drag. In VERSUS, that won't be a problem! I'm about to start my Sunday ride now :-) Best, Tim
Tim the YG really suites you ! My faves are , DD 40 yellow gold , gold sunburst dial, roman, just amazing . Nice series Tim. Very interesting and a very good idea. I like this kind of stuff. I would like to see a VERSUS between the new Rolex Sea-Dweller 126600 or 126660 and the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Diver SBGA229. In terms of size, this is the better matchup then the normal Submariner in 40mm. Unfortunately I doubt, that the "normal" Rolex customer would take a Grand Seiko into consideration... but hey, it would be Fun 😎 kind regards, Alex
Thanks for watching federhaus! We've received a few Grand Seiko vs. Rolex requests and we'll try to get one filmed in future episodes. --Marketing Team
The DD2 and DJ2 had reasonable seven-year runs, but there's no doubt that their replacements are better balanced and refined by means of lessons learned with the originals. Best, Tim
Thanks for supporting my newest video concept! I think a Yacht-Master 116622 vs. Sub 116610 would be a slammin' showdown. Which Sub and which Yacht-Master would you like to see compared? Best, Tim
An Oysterflex Yacht-Master is viable since we have have at least one in stock right now. What about the 116622 steel/platinum model either with dark rhodium or blue sunburst dial? And for the Sub, LV or standard LN bezel? We have both at the moment. Best, Tim
De Day date 40 has been my dream watch since I saw it....it will take me at least 5 more years, maybe less if I push it...but I’ll own this watch in the future....
Thank you for this kind feedback, and thank you for supporting our new feature! Next week is JLC Master Compressor Extreme Lab 2 VERSUS FP Journe Linesport Centigraphe Sport titanium; powerhouse sports chronographs in an epic matchup! Best, Tim
WatchBox Reviews Can't wait to see it! Tim, when are you expecting to get your hands on the new Tudor Black Bay fifty eight? I'd love to see a review of that
Thank you for this feedback; its a great reward for the crew that worked to bring this feature from concept to execution. We have two super-chronographs from FP Journe and JLC in the barrel for next Sunday; stay tuned! Best, Tim
Great reviews Tim! looking forward to more of these. My fav DD40 is the olive green dial but in everrose gold, wouldn't mind the white gold version if somebody wants to send me one.
Thank you for this kind feedback, Peter! My goal is to leverage some of the production talent on the broadcast side to create more entertaining and engaging reviews on this side of the house. We're going to post a new VERSUS feature here on Watchbox Reviews every Sunday. Best, Tim
Hi Sandeep, thank you for your encouragement and kind feedback. The detailed specs are a key part of this feature and will be included in each episode. Best, Tim
Thank you for these kind words! The next episode already has been shot, and it's in post-production for release next Sunday. This feature will go like on Watchbox Reviews every Sunday. Best, Tim
Hey Tim Really appreciate the bump in production value in this video - would be amazing if this could become a new weekly feature This might well be one of the best videos ever across the Watchbox channels, and fresh new format and content like this is for sure going to draw more viewers
Michael, we think alike! My second episode already is in post production, and it will air next Sunday. Each Sunday will bring a new VERSUS episode. This series is the realization of my longtime dream to offer truly professional-quality watch reviews of the type that I wanted to watch when I was outside of the industry looking inward. Best, Tim
I love them both, mainly because I love the day-date. However, I do think the DD40 is the better design, for me. I do like bigger watches, and would be very happy owning the DDII, but I think strictly from a design aspect, the DD40 wins. Didn't know that about the DDII movement. Could be a future classic?
I was able to test-wear the DD40 a couple of weeks ago. It was beyond comparison. I had to leave it behind and "keep" my $80k. I will return someday and take it home.
That's an excellent choice. While I compared platinum models here, the white gold DD40 with olive green sunburst dial would be my choice from among all DD options. Best, Tim
Everything you see here is a work-in-progress. The backdrop is there for the sake of contrast when we place the data tables in the beginning. Best, Tim
Future episodes should really feature Swiss vs German vs Japanese watches. IMO, specifically Rolex vs Grand Seiko face-off is indeed highly desirable. Any GS with 44GS case and Spring drive movement will prove to be formiddable foe to anything Rolex has to offer..
We can do that! I've received one request already for Lange vs. Patek Philippe, and I'm going to pursue that. Separately, I can see a great deal of potential for Grand Seiko vs. Rolex showdowns -- perhaps these could become a series-within-a-series. Best, Tim
If I may make a suggestion, Grand Seiko SBGA375 vs Rolex Datejust 126300 with Blue dial and smooth bezel will make for a really exciting episode.. ;). Both comes with blue dial and mid-level pricing but each can't be more different in their endeavour to make THE ultimate luxury watches.. Best, Heru
Hi Chris, we have more on the way! JLC vs. FP Journe - extreme sports chronographs - is on deck for next weekend, and I've received a suggestion for Lange vs. Patek that I'm going to fast-track for production as a potential episode III. Best, Tim
Prefer the dial of the Day-Date II, but I’m not a fan of Roman Numerals. Furthermore, I like fluted bezels. Smooth bezels just don’t do it for me. Since fluted is unavailable in platinum, I would “settle” for a diamond bezel.
Anything is possible, but I don't see Rolex revisiting the design of the larger Day-Date for a while. The standard DD36 has been around for a bit, and I anticipate in the next year of two that we'll see a refresh of that model with the DD40's caliber 3255 and a case to match the new DJ36. Best, Tim
Once again I say all these girly man liking small millimeter watches.41 to 42 mmmm is still not even that big for a decent sized wrist. Rolex should never have discontinued 41
There's no doubt that if you want a more robust wrist presence, the earlier watches have a more pronounced stance. I'm glad to know that the Day-Date 2 has its fans among our viewers. Thanks for watching! Best, Tim
The proportions of the DD2 looks silly, way too big and ugly. DD40 is perfect. Me, i like some baguette diamond hour markers when it comes to platinum watches. My favorite plt DD has to be the Day-Date 40 Green Emerald Reference 228396TEM 😉
The TEM is a monster. I can't wait for the day that I get to film one of those in this series or even my standard videos. Thanks for supporting my new series! Best, Tim

Its pretty obvious the proportions of the DD2 and DJ2 are off when Rolex decided to replace them with the 41 in such a short period of time.

It's going to be a great series! Thank you and please more ! :)
Thank you for these kind words! The next episode already has been shot, and it's in post-production for release next Sunday. This feature will go like on Watchbox Reviews every Sunday.
Best,
Tim
Very very nice video , much respect 👏👍
Thank you kindly Andrei!

Hey Tim
Really appreciate the bump in production value in this video - would be amazing if this could become a new weekly feature
This might well be one of the best videos ever across the Watchbox channels, and fresh new format and content like this is for sure going to draw more viewers
Best,
Tim
I love them both, mainly because I love the day-date. However, I do think the DD40 is the better design, for me. I do like bigger watches, and would be very happy owning the DDII, but I think strictly from a design aspect, the DD40 wins. Didn't know that about the DDII movement. Could be a future classic?
Time will tell!
Thanks for watching Todd, we appreciate your thoughtful feedback!

DD 2 movements is 3156c based 3155
Correction: Cal.3156 based 3155
Loving this!
Thank you Vali! We've got FP Journe vs. JLC next week. Do you have any suggestions for future episodes?
Best,
Tim
WatchBox Reviews perhaps FP Journe vs Laurent Ferrier
I was able to test-wear the DD40 a couple of weeks ago. It was beyond comparison. I had to leave it behind and "keep" my $80k. I will return someday and take it home.
Nice, but I'll stick to my Oyster Perpetual 39
That's totally fine!
Thanks for watching!

the 40 just made the DD2 obsolete imho
The day-date II was a beta test. The 40 is the final product.
They are beautiful
I think Rolex crushed it with these watches and it doesn't matter they are both imo the best looking watches Rolex has made
I clearly would have the 40 mm as my monday-friday watch.
That's an excellent choice. While I compared platinum models here, the white gold DD40 with olive green sunburst dial would be my choice from among all DD options.
Best,
Tim
Looks just like my new Cadison watch.
Love the format but change the backdrop. It's like Tim has been sent into watch purgatory.
Everything you see here is a work-in-progress. The backdrop is there for the sake of contrast when we place the data tables in the beginning.
Best,
Tim
I'd want the 40mm, but the dial on the 41mm is far superior.
Best,
Tim
If I may make a suggestion, Grand Seiko SBGA375 vs Rolex Datejust 126300 with Blue dial and smooth bezel will make for a really exciting episode.. ;). Both comes with blue dial and mid-level pricing but each can't be more different in their endeavour to make THE ultimate luxury watches..
Best,
Heru
I'm going to watch like a hawk for those models when I check our inventory.

Tim
I would love the day date 41mm with applied eastern Arabic numbers and days with the ice blue sunburst dial. Ok I'm off to buy a lottery ticket. :-)
Oh heck, if any version of that shows up, I'll buy it before it hits the website!
Best,
Tim
Rolex vs Rolex Rose gold day date 11 vs day date 40 shootout.
Great suggestion! We'll pass it along and see if we can make it happen! - Marketing Team
WatchBox Reviews thank you!very nice review
♥️
Daydate40 is more elegant without any doubt.
I like the new series.
Hi Chris, we have more on the way! JLC vs. FP Journe - extreme sports chronographs - is on deck for next weekend, and I've received a suggestion for Lange vs. Patek that I'm going to fast-track for production as a potential episode III.
Best,
Tim
Aesthetics aside, the newer movement with 70 hours power reserve is why the DD40 wins for me.

Prefer the dial of the Day-Date II, but I’m not a fan of Roman Numerals. Furthermore, I like fluted bezels. Smooth bezels just don’t do it for me. Since fluted is unavailable in platinum, I would “settle” for a diamond bezel.
36mm... ;)
A successful one
My choice would be fluted bezel 39 Day Date with all the features of the 40. And in stainless steel.
Anything is possible, but I don't see Rolex revisiting the design of the larger Day-Date for a while. The standard DD36 has been around for a bit, and I anticipate in the next year of two that we'll see a refresh of that model with the DD40's caliber 3255 and a case to match the new DJ36.
Best,
Tim
WatchBox Reviews Thanks a lot for your outstanding job!!
Once again I say all these girly man liking small millimeter watches.41 to 42 mmmm is still not even that big for a decent sized wrist. Rolex should never have discontinued 41
Yes thee beast , will not surpass R 36mm in timless look.
Day-date 40 just way too small for a man with decent wrist size not enough presence
Day date 2 and datejust 2 looks so much better than daydate 40 and datejust 41 with those more modern thicker bezels. Well but looks are subjective
There's no doubt that if you want a more robust wrist presence, the earlier watches have a more pronounced stance. I'm glad to know that the Day-Date 2 has its fans among our viewers. Thanks for watching!
Best,
Tim
The proportions of the DD2 looks silly, way too big and ugly. DD40 is perfect. Me, i like some baguette diamond hour markers when it comes to platinum watches. My favorite plt DD has to be the Day-Date 40 Green Emerald Reference 228396TEM 😉
The TEM is a monster. I can't wait for the day that I get to film one of those in this series or even my standard videos. Thanks for supporting my new series!
Best,
Tim
