I don’t know much about watches. Just 5 months ago I bought myself a Rado Automatic Open Heart Centrix in rose gold. I absolutely love the color and being able to see the gears working in the background. I always wear it when I get the chance. And just yesterday I was walking around the mall and decided to head over to the jeweler where I got my watch from and after looking around, a G-Chrono caught my attention with its gold color and black leather straps. I ended up purchasing it and absolutely love it! Idk how it works getting into watch collecting but I sure am interested. The Day Date Presidential line are absolutely beautiful and would want to own one some time in the future. Another thing I really really love is the quality of packaging. The packaging on these watches are so damn good. I’m a sucker for good packaging.

I was offered a white gold DayDate this week, complete with full diamond bezel and silver diamond baguette dial. I was sorely tempted and if it had been any other dial I would have bought it. However, it just didn't quite do it for me. If it had had the black dial it would have been perfect imho. I kind of think I shouldn't like a full diamond bezel but it just looked amazing. Rolex gem setting is second to none and still done by hand apparently.
When they were still rather readily available, I was in awe of them but the price tag stopped me in my tracks, not the least because they tended to lose value immediately. I even encountered the white gold olive dial at a steep discount and passed. Silly me. And while walking through the mall with the family, it’s the rose gold olive dial model that was available in a window. Couldn’t go in. Still have nightmares about it. But my honest fav is the white dial. Pure and stunning. I do like the onyx as well though.
Personally I like the DayDate a lot. Thinking to ask my local AD for a piece next year (my ideal would be either the RG Chocolate Dial, RG Olive Dial, the new RG Ombre Dial or the YG Green Dial). And yes, I agree it is a watch of prestige. Even though there are definitely pricier Pateks, but there is just that classiness which Daydate has that a Patek doesn’t
As someone with two of these Rose Gold and Yellow Gold with the diamond champagne dial... It is worth it! Most people never ask me about it, but the looks I get are amazing
I bought my yellow gold, black face with diamonds in 2002. It's got the unusual bark finish on the bezel and middle links of the bracelet, which I personally love. I don't wear it as much as I should. It rocks with any outfit. Great video, can't wait to see what you add to your outrageous collection.
I sport the same watch with a silver dial. It's my only watch, so it's worn daily. It seems that Role models like ours with the bark finish that aren't very popular when they first come out, end up being one collectors will want in the future. I won't sell mine. I will pass it on to my son or grandson.
Yes, the day dates are great. But I love and prefer your Daytona - I picked up the exact same watch from my AD 18months ago. It is a serious piece of watch.
I actually prefer the Roman numerals over hour markers or diamonds. Day date watches are just breath taking. Where ever you go people respect you when they see you wearing one.
The Day-Date has been my dream watch for years. This timepiece is absolutely timeless. Rolex got the new 40 right! I've liked the yellow gold baguette dial model but that platinum meteorite is making me think twice. Great video.
I must admit, I quite like the onyx, but to me - the champagne dial on the yellow gold with plain stick hour markers screams CLASSIC! It remind me a bit of a gold bracelet - with no fancy dial winking at you. It's a major flex without appearing to try too hard. It's also a tiny bit small for my 8 inch wrist, but I don't think it would matter as much as with a steel sports.
Just bought my 118238 with the green sunburst dial and lumed hourmarkers. I really feel this is the one that stays. There is something very powefull in this watch.

One interesting day-date that I feel you missed were the vintage 18008's, no matter how you feel about them, they are definitely note worthy for starting the whole gem-set/rainbow bezel thing.

The Rolex watches I own I bought at retail. There are more I want and a 36mm day-date is on that list. I've never considered paying over retail. Recent events may be turning things in the customers' favour again.
Bought mine in 2018 228239 white gold quadrant dial. Wasnt wearing it as much maybe for dinner because it demands attention from others and was self concious. I am in the hobby and have various “important” rolex pieces. Have 3 months wearing it as a daily after i suffered a motorcycle accident, the self concious thing went out the window. Life is short. And was my grail watch. Its heavy in a good proportional way. This turned out to be my daily, the others are winded twice a month but no wrist time
I’m debating the onyx or the olive dial I have not made my mind up yet because I’m debating for future investment reasons what do you guys think for the better investment

Not really a watch that I'd consider owning on first glance, however, that one that you show at 9:01 in the bottom left of the screen with the blue fumé dial looks awesome (even if it does have diamonds as the indices which is another huge NOPE for me). That Eisenkiesel Dial looks great too, but NOT with the diamond bezel! The green fumé with diamond indices looks good too, and I AM also a fan of the meteor dial, personally I'd prefer it with sapphire markers instead of diamond, but I guess that's just me being picky! You've certainly opened my eyes, but I suspect that the varients of this watch that I actually like are towards the top end of the price range for this model, and as such that puts it out of the range of what I would consider paying.
I have the smooth bezel 228206 with the meteorite dial. MUCH nicer than the new fluted platinum bezel. Mine is 2022.. so maybe the last of the smooth bezel platinum DD's.
It’s the watch people get when they’ve “made it”. You’ll see them on everyone from scrap dealers to gangsters to bankers. Warren Buffet wears one. Even Jimmy Savile wore one. They are iconic but they are also such a go-to for status I feel you’ll need to go vintage stone or stella to get the nod from those in the know. Or meteorite as you showed. That new version you showed was amazing and I think so classy. Do you have the Vintage Rolex book by David Silver? Worth getting if you are looking at vintage rare dial day dates…

Meteorite dial platinum DayDate is exactly the same as the white gold version except for the metal. I’ve tried on the white gold and found it stunning. The Diamond indices are also understated. I didn’t even notice them until I had the watch on my wrist. I ordered the black onyx dial for my wife. I’m secretly hoping that she doesn’t like it. Because I’ll take it if she doesn’t!

Green Stella day-date is incredible. Absolute shame they only make it in 40mm. Any day-date 36mm is the perfect watch imo. 40mm are… meh I do urge you to try a 36mm. Proportions are perfect, classy, and timeless compared to the 40mm

firstly welcome back & great video. Sadly the DD just conjures images of Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger types. Its an old man's watch, end of.. but as it seems you're growing into them, maybe that says something about where you are in life?🤔 I'm older than you and nearly as old as Warren but certainly not yet willing to tell the world via one of these things I'm an old fuddie duddie. Some of the dials are either a perverse in joke at Rolex or made for those gaudy nouveau riche types with more money than taste.(Tony Soprano ..) The absolute apex of the "buy a Rolex to impress others..." comment however just to totally undermine my whole stance, the meteor dial just and I mean just sneaks under the bar as acceptable but even then it's not a watch I'd ever particularly want above at least 10 others. I however sincerely hope you manage to get that one and love to see a video review of it wear it in good health as they say. 👍
Unfortunately they still cost more than my car. Instead of shelling out mad money that I don't have, I bought a Tudor Date-Day, a nice little 36mm piece that cost me about $2,500 new.

My 228235 Roman numeral chocolate dial arrived a few days ago to my AD I’ve been waiting forever for this piece & finally have it , truly a blessing.

however just to totally undermine my whole stance, the meteor dial just and I mean just sneaks under the bar as acceptable but even then it's not a watch I'd ever particularly want above at least 10 others. I however sincerely hope you manage to get that one and love to see a video review of it
