Had issue on my a4 2013 plate. Randomly didn’t start one day, always serviced yearly , went to two garages couldn’t find the issue. This video helped and garage managed to resolve. Shame I had to diagnose it myself for the garage to charge me a big bill. We have left the senor off for now so no coolant can get to the ecu
So helpful as I have just had this fault on my A5 - thank you for this very clear explanation and great to see someone get to the root of the problem - not just offer up a new ECU as the solution. Excellent
I’m a time served mechanic and did loads of diagnostic work and always got a kick out of finding things like this. Hats off to you on this one sir. I came across this as my A5 has suddenly chucked the parking brake and ESP faults at me so I’m doing some research. I got a 645 relay off ebay tonight and that was my plan of attack but I will definitely be checking the ecu wiring this weekend. It’s videos like this that you tube is made for and even if my faults are not related it’s still a good video 👍🏻
Great video. I found water getting into that same area on my A4 2012. It started affecting my headlight and fog light operation. Luckily with this video I found the source and hopefully have avoided greater damage.
Great video mate. I’m just dealing with this now, transmission coolant solenoid goes open circuit and the coolant capillaries up the loom into the ECU. Mine has now blown a capacitor which has blew the 12v supply within the board - unrepairable. ECU firm I’ve used (Avilec) have managed to get a board of the same part number and replaced. The car now needs to go to my local Audi specialist who will program it to the car. Obviously the solenoid needs sorting too! Bloody nightmare as this is the second time it’s happened due to a very poor repair under warranty by Vertu motors (absolute cowboys) even though they were told the fault as I had pretty much done the same as you. Apparently this was a recall in USA on 2013 models (which mine is) but not here, also affects other models.
i had the same problem on an A5 replaced the pump and ran a wire out of the ecu and connected it covered with heat shrink and not had a problem since plastic housing develops a leak that caused the problem
I glossed over it in one of my other videos , it's on hold at the moment but due to restart , but I have had quite a few set backs , money , time , covid now , and various other reasons but it's slowly coming back , I have been focusing on my janspeed for the moment. but it will be coming back
I have audi a5 2013 1.8 tfsi my brake light are on most of the time they are on even i realese brake pedal . EPC AND ESC FAULT do you think taht could be same problem ?
Hey there i have one question I have audi q7 3.0 2011 model Recently serviced and battery changed after few days car was unable to get motion once brakes were lifted Unless we hit the accelerator till 1500rpm then the car moves with a jerk And a engine and heater light blink once for fraction of a second And now rpm dips when hit the gas paddle in idel rpm with the same engine and heater light just for a fraction of the second Now car is with the service center for 2 weeks now with no fault code Please help 🙏
Mine just did this today. Drove through a puddle and then started misfiring real bad. 2 hours later won't start, not even getting spark. Before all this every so often my gas pedal would give out. Gar would stay running but would press the gas and nothing
You are a great mechanic. I have water around 12 mm in the plastic housing of my ECU. It has rotted a relay underneath. This is incredibly poor design. I will never buy or recommend an audi to anyone now.
Sherlock Holmes level of fault finding there 👍 My brother's TTS cranks no start. Happened over night. OBDeleven says no power to ECU. I hope it doesn't turn out to be the same. Hopefully just a duff relay. Stupid place for an ECU, where rainwater collects along with leaves. Moisture prone area.

I think i have this
Going grey kiddo
going grey since I was 19
You could pack both ends of the loom with Dielectric grease to stop this happening again.
