I think you made the right decision in keeping the flame finish, it wasn't what you planned but I think you will be happy once the clear coat goes down.

The back looks like hot lava erupting from a thundering volcano...yes Dave, it looks sick. I don't know that I'd have the stones to take a guitar body and try something other than an ordinary finish or stain. Kudos to you Dave. Thanks for sharing the ML project with all of us...take care.

Looks good. Saturn look on front and lava look at back. Leave it like is with a nice clear coat. You've given me some paint ideas but not for a guitar. Thanks for your brave testing on your guitar.

Well it's turning out cool but I have to give you my 2 cents. I would have done the back all black and did the crackle effect on the edges of the guitar and the edges of the headstock. Red front, black back, with crackel sides.
Love the lava flow look! Don't ruin the top with paint. Great contrast between the front and back. Looks sick!

Nice video! I’ve seen this process done before but they varied the crackle effect by using compressed air when the crackle spray was still fresh. I also wouldn’t have done the front, looks great with the wood grain. Would have been ashamed to cover it up. You did well.

Why would you put crackle on a flame maple top anyway? Looks great like it is. As for the back, I might have buffed the red before applying the crackle; I'm wondering how they'll buff together.
used that stuff i didnt like the arisol didnt really crackle like 80s crackle. been trying to find the real deal that keisil and the other companys use buut until then i use my craft crackle medium. by the way cool that you are doing an Ml looks cool

I just don't see what type of base coat paint you used? Was it water based, oil based, lacquer?
I used Rustoleum 2k Gloss..Pretty much has to be a Gloss base coat for the Crackling paint to work properly..Lol I think..it worked for me
