Hello from St. George, New Brunswick, Canada I am like #423, I love your videos, keep them coming, we don't have anything similar where i live, everything goes from straight pipe straight into the sewers, one huge deep manhole outside on the road usually near the sidewalk. i think what we do is lift the toilet and snake the line to the sewer, maybe jet it i have never seen anything like it around here.

Looks like the initial cause of the back up was the interceptor bung ( 8:39 )dropping out and blocking the trap below. Not many of these interceptors I see on these channels ever seem to have the bungs left in place, I expect they fall out and get not replaced due to the problems they can cause if they get dislodged. That had obviously been backing up for a pretty long time before getting completely full to the point you got called out. One of your best unblocks I think this was. Considering how long it had been since that interceptor manhole had been last lifted, there was not as much root intrusion as I would have thought in the manhole.

Pressure wash around the lid it will come up easier, just a thought.It will clean the dirt form the top edge and stop it falling in the manhole and making it easy when replacing it.
How is the plumbing both so complex and so crude? Its baffling that a pipe is running across a step to the gully, when the pit is right in front. And another pit in the front? Who designed this chaos.
It's truly sad people don't take better care of the outside of their places.....I realize the overflowing gulley is a small disaster......but gee whiz, you got alot of tidying up to do. You could be like the barrister with the BILLABLE HOURS !! LOLOL

Here's a helpful tip if you take your sledgehammer and beat all around the opening you're trying to get open it'll just roll the crud loose to where it won't be near as hard for you to remove the legs off of the opening need to get into
Nice unblock paul nothing better then a frozen manhole cover u had patience and it didnt crack in half lol Nothing more annoying then broken lifting bars
Straight bars are a better choice to hammer, the force is direct. Also two long bars alternately prying works great. I've opened a lot of round city manholes that way and they're heavy as hell
