  • Why is Hong Kong people like Shanghai style so much? Shanghai Food, Shanghai QiPao, Shanghai Salon!
The first generation Shanghai food started in Hong Kong because its founder (于久錫) fled to Hong Kong around the time of Second World War in China. After building his name as a specialized Shanghai chef, 于久錫 founded the first generation Snow Garden restaurant in North Point.
Chiang Wai Yuen’s dad is 于久錫’s nephew. When Chiang’s dad migrated to Hong Kong in the 1960s, he followed 于久錫 to become a famous chef of his own. In 1986, Chiang’s dad restarted the second generation Snow Garden restaurant in North Point again. The restaurant became so famous that many local tycoons (Stanley Ho and Run Run Shaw) were its regular customers!
When Wai Yuen restarted the Snow Garden brand again in 2017, he realizes that he is still living within the legacy of Snow Garden: The chefs and staffs who followed his dad’s Snow Garden eventually came back to help, even the old customers who met him through childhood are also coming back to visit!
It is then the most important value of Snow Garden dawned on Wai Yuen, it is not only about its food but also its sense of bonding created through food all these years…
