I can’t believe you did this video!!! Makes me so happy! Exactly what I needed!
After trying some of your recipes, I just had to buy your books. Could not find them in Montreal, so I turned to Amazon. Bought all four books, which will come to me from all around the world.
I got my spice box and, thanks to this video, I can fill my cupboards with all those magical flavours and be ready to start cooking when the books arrive.
I am so looking forward to fall and winter filled with all the warmth, flavour and joy your cooking brings.
Thank you so much for being you!

This is a fantastic idea -- we had our kitchen remodeled last year, and despite our best efforts, things have started to spill and spread out. A bit of organization would do us a world of good :-) Thanks for taking the time to put this together!

Oh my I can relate so much! We probably have as many spices and it takes up so much space. And we aren't even Indian, but German 😅 We store everything in glass jars, too. Much love from a like-minded fan ❤

@@FoodwithChetna We cook everything that looks delicious on RUclips or the internet 😀 We tidied out our cook books and left only our favourites, because nowadays one can find so many recipes on the internet. And when a recipe I want to try calls for spices we don't have, I'm prone to buying them 🙈 But I love our collection! We like to make German, Mediterranean, Indian and Chinese dishes a lot. For example I recently made the Quick Cumin Rice you made with your Mom and everybody loved it! Usually when I make white rice, there's rice left. But not this time! I think the spices got my family hooked 😄

Wow, it's like a spice grocery store. I was given a gift of spices which included dried curry leaves, I didn't notice any in your collection, but see in your book chai, chat and chutney a recipe for curry leaf chutney, would this be fresh or dried leaves. Some of your recipes have jaggery in them, what is that?. Thankyou Chetna, look forward to the lentil video.

I love your organization!! Please do the Dal, I can’t wait! I saw online some moor lentils have been banned in India due to pesticide contamination, today. Any truth to this? I’m getting set to make the yellow lentil soup. I’ve only had brown lentils. I’m using zested lime instead of fresh curry leaves. I have to slow up on my purchases! I’m looking to organize as you have. I have quite the collection of spices, Chetna! I love your Moms kitchen & your old neighborhood. It reminds me of Jackson Heights, NY where I grew up, it has a higher Indian population & is lighted up all night long with food trucks & movies. If you know Indians who live in NYC, they know Jackson Heights!!!

Great spice selection. I threw all of my spices out when we moved as we were forced to live with the inlaws for a bit and space was limited. I'm now trying to build up my collection again. What are some must have spices? I had so many that I hardly ever used.
Also, I would love a recipe for the chicken salad you mention in the video when you talk about the mild curry powder.

Hi! the chicken salad recipe is in my book 'Chetnas healthy indian'. My basic spices would be the ones in the spice box, that is my basic I can't do without.

      ground coriander
      garam masala
      turmeric
      mustard seeds
      cumin seeds

I have a question about curry leaves. I was only able to get dry ones and they don't taste much of anything and also they are not very pleasant to find in a dish. So now I turned them into a powder. But how do I use them properly?

    • @FoodwithChetna
      @FoodwithChetna  5 лет назад

I would not waste money on dry curry leaves as they are a waste. I have never tried powder, try it in a dish with the other dry spices and see how it tastes.

That was most unhelpful. Sorry. Good ideas, that, perhaps others might not have heard of, but I've been doing for years, but seriously? You are aware it says on the Ketchup bottle to 'refrigerate after opening', yours is on a shelf in the cupboard. I am aware it won't actually go bad, but to not mention why you don't refrigerate it is almost liable... otherwise, am enjoying the ideas for the foods you present... 🙂
