It's so interesting so see how far along some of these maps were and how much thought and effort must've gone into them just to never see the light of day
Missile Beach actually has a deployable lightbridge in the middle, a very cool 1 sided CTF/Assault concept. It looks like it was meant to be set in a similar location to the campaign mission The Great Journey, would have been awesome to play on it; hopefully an enterprising modder can get it ship-shape for some custom games!
I think the cube on Missile Beach is just the skybox. Games from that generation used fixed skyboxes created from a cubemap rendered to texture from a camera sitting in the middle of it. You can see the same system used in Unreal Engine 2 (UT2k3, 2k3). Later (from Halo3 on) studios started modeling environments directly in the play space since the polygon budget allowed for it.
8:00 I have been searching for this map for an eternity! I could swear I have played this map with a more blood gulch look to it. I wallways though it was blood gulch and I was just misremembering things. but the layout of the cliffs and caves around the corner is just as I remember it. this is so weird!
Looks like a Zanzibar style map. One team starts at the beach and assaults the base. Probably would have been good for 1 flag and 1 bomb. Bungie focused on building a lot of those types of maps during the H2 and H3 days.
If I remember correctly, according to interviews and blog notes from lead developers for MP, Containment went through several iterations because it was literally too big for the OG Xbox to handle, so they had to scale it down several times, alongside with the other maps for their prototype game mode (the precursor to Halo 5's Warzone mode, in a way) that were too big for the console to handle. Heck, Containment didn't even ship with the base game, it was added with the map pack.
I was SCREAMING lockout i mean come on not a single mention of lockout in the video despite that unreleased map having literally some sections from lockout
Cloud city gauntlet and overboard are really cool environments I wish we got them in 2, hopefully they get made in forge for infinite since it’s got such a beautiful forge.
I wonder how many of these maps were originally developed for the Map Pack that Bungie did later on. Interesting how most MP Bungie developers only talked about cut maps from Halo 2's original development, not a word on any of these maps that I'm aware of, cool none the less.
So exciting to see this! I wish there was a team on MCC that would finish these early maps. I wouldn't even mind paying as long as the maps were quality H2, H3, or Reach, and if we could play them in matchmaking!
My assumption is some of them were cut for time and others were either to test the game and never meant to be released publicly or some of them evolved into other maps. Solitude to me seems like it got trimmed down to Ascension with other aspects of it inspiring what eventually became Lockout.
I’m still upset We still haven’t gotten those cut campaign missions, including the E3 demo remastered. Is there any news on whether or not those are still coming because I still really want to play the E3 demo
Halo Infinite's campaign borrows a lot from pass Halo games when it comes to Forerunner architecture and play spaces. Infinite has that same room in the beginning of the game, and it even has the Halo 2 gondola ride from Quarantine Zone. Could very well be a coincidence though.
@austinobrien2090 It did say it was a remake of Regret from Halo 2, even had Hunters and Jackal Snipers who fought both teams- but it's also possible it's just a coincidence and both the Forger and Bungie had the idea of a MP map in that room. Still though, makes you wonder
Well, Cloud City was revealed by Bungies devs a few years back bc it was kinda a predecessor of Colossus, though we only saw a blueprint. Timberland is of course a CE map name too since it's a remake of it.
It's so interesting so see how far along some of these maps were and how much thought and effort must've gone into them just to never see the light of day
For me sounds like a good reason for remakes of the classic games
Solitude feels a lot like Guardian from Halo 3
0:26 Outside wall looks a bit like Combine architecture throughout City 17 in Half-Life 2
Halo 2 was always 4v4. We didn’t have five verses five until the title update in halo three when they added five verses five to social slayer.
Had BTB too
5v5 was btb
Btw was 8v8
20 years on and still finding stuff
Halo was the peak of gaming
After the Digsite updates are over, there will be little left to find.
Wonder if we'll see anyone try to recreate these cut maps in Halo Infinite's Forge
Indubitably
I made Warthog inc if you look it up 🫡
4:11 I'm almost certain that Fourth Station is from one of the marathon games
I was thinking the same. It has very similar material and layout to a certain mission, I will not name here
It's a remake of Mars Needs Women. Didn't notice until I saw your comment but it's very obvious now
@@Fenrick That's the one!
It kinda follows the same theme as the map Foundation in halo 2, which is a remake of thunder dome from marathon.

8:10 Solitude reminds me of Halo 3's Guardian.
It's like Guardian, Ascension, and Lockout all rolled into one. I imagine it is some kind of prototype that eventually got split up.
3:45 this was in the reach halo1 anniversary map pack.
I made a 3 layer map in the trees wich was so diffrent to how you'd usually play.
Cloud city looks like the idea was reused in Halo Reach's Anchor 9.
There is a cut H4 track called Cloud City, I wonder if its related.
Solitude looks like a Guardian prototype.

I don't see the advantage compared to just having a huge cube with the skybox containing the entire environment
Map named Evergreen
It's set in a grey boulder
wait till you see Evergrey
8:00 I have been searching for this map for an eternity!
I could swear I have played this map with a more blood gulch look to it.
I wallways though it was blood gulch and I was just misremembering things.
but the layout of the cliffs and caves around the corner is just as I remember it.
this is so weird!
Please bring back the puns!
Evergreen is legit containment lol
Missile beach looks like a beautiful map. But it looks horribly unbalanced. I can see why this was cut.

@@ButteredToast81 and High Ground
Solitude is definetly a lockout/guardian/ascension vibe
I think Evergreen is actually a early version of the map Containment just without any of the snow and the location being in a rocky area XD
I love seeing these cut maps and cut content in general it feels like alternate reality nostalgia
been awhile since ive seen your videos. glad you're still making these Halo vids!
Oh man that Timberland variant looks freaking awesome! Hope somebody remakes/finishes it in Infinite lol
Gauntlet is my favorite of them all. Looks like a lot of fun hiding behind those poles
Yooo Timberland mentioned?! I remember that from back in the days of running Halo: Custom Edition on the school computers with a USB stick...
That timberland remake looks really good
Fourth Station kinda has vibes of being a very early precursor to Condemned from Reach
Solitude looks like a mix between Ascension and Lockout
I was SCREAMING lockout i mean come on not a single mention of lockout in the video despite that unreleased map having literally some sections from lockout
looks like Fourth Station is a remake of Mars Needs Women, a multiplayer map from Marathon.
Cloud city gauntlet and overboard are really cool environments I wish we got them in 2, hopefully they get made in forge for infinite since it’s got such a beautiful forge.

I swear ive played evergreen on halo reach back in the day, someone made it as a forge map and it was rotation for actual BTB
I don´t imagine that the last map is the jackal sniper zone from regret mission; and casualy I try to recreate it on Halo infinite for the same idea.
Imagine the machinimas we could have gotten on these maps
Evergreen looks like an early version of Containment. The layout and bases are almost entirely the same. Minus the opening gates and snowy textures.
Neat maps. Halo 2 Matchmaking was mostly 4v4 outside of rumble pit and big team battle.
It never occurred to me that there was no Halo 2 multiplayer map that used the Sacred Icon design language.
I’m still upset We still haven’t gotten those cut campaign missions, including the E3 demo remastered. Is there any news on whether or not those are still coming because I still really want to play the E3 demo
That last map was remade a few months ago in Halo Infinite Forge. 👀
Wonder if it was someone in the know.

Does Evergreen have Chris Carney's face on the moon? Or is the skybox completely different from Containment?
Man the end of the first level of Halo 3 should be a multi player map
this is a amazing video and your amazing and my favorite halo RUclipsr
Ditto
Fourth Station is definitely a remake of Mars Needs Women. Pfhorth Station, if you will.
5:53 maybe it's for the death barrier?
Evergreen looks near identical to Containment so it's most likely an early version of it
Evergreen looks a lot like Avalanche to me, especially the bases.
How to we get access to the unreleased maps for halo 3 and halo 2
I feel like I remember some of these names
Well, Cloud City was revealed by Bungies devs a few years back bc it was kinda a predecessor of Colossus, though we only saw a blueprint. Timberland is of course a CE map name too since it's a remake of it.
Damn slow down with the camera. I'm getting motion sickness.
Had to play this video on half speed.
Brother 4v4 has been in halo since day 1 lol
Why are your videos so sped up and twitchy now?
Lmao bro slow down on the camera. Why are you zipping the camera around so fast. I'm watching this in .5 speed and i'm still getting motion sickness.
He's on the coffee 🤪
I feel like even if there had been 2 Bungies, they still wouldn’t have finished the game lmfao
Bungie struggling to make a single map for destiny now :///
Thats alot of maps
sad thing that xbox players cant play this
Such a dramatic title😂
2 min gang!!!
First buddy. Another great video
