    In this video we can see the work that has begun on the Sanford Dam. Dewatering has started on the north and south side of the dam. Water has already been redirected through the breach channel and under the lift bridge. The Sanford park is looking great! The Sanford Dam is located on what used to be Sanford Lake. Sanford Lake is located in Mid Michigan. This footage was filmed on February 27, 2024. This was after the collapse of the Edenville Dam on May 19, 2020. Wixom Lake was rapidly rising due to heavy rainfall and the Edenville dam could not hold back the water. The side of the dam failed sending water rushing towards Sanford Village. The aftermath and damage left behind is devastating. Make sure you subscribe to catch the follow up videos I will be filming.

    Can you go over the plans at Sanford Dam again to show us where they are at in the rebuild phase Jordan?

    I remember when Your Very First Video was Uploaded to RUclips. I remember saying to You to keep up Videoing The Dams Until they are Rebuilt. I have Enjoyed Your Videos. As I said from the very Start, I absolutely Knew You would Go Down In History. It appears That You have a Good Working Relationship with The Fisher Company. Great Job Jordan. I had a Feeling You would do very Well.

    3:27 is that Sanford falls again! ( temporary )

    Crushed stone doesn't make a good waterproof dam. There's a good deal of water that will come in where sheet piles touch each other. These seem to be pros. I'm sure if it was cheaper to have bermed against sheet pile w clay or concrete then running pumps. Have to admit when it comes time to remove temp dams these will come up fast easy w min silting of waterway.
    GREAT POST
    Thanks

    Thanks, Jordan - very nice little video showing us the overview and the areas the live cam can't quite get in shot.
    (The leak was being addressed with additional bracing piles at the time the video was published and has been greatly diminished. Fingers crossed!)

    I fail to understand the reason of rebuilding it. It is just another dam to maintain and fail.

    Sure doesn't boost your confidence when they have a leak that they can't seem to 'turn off'. Makes you wonder how competent the rest of their work is. thanks for the update Jordan.

      Maybe it's a natural spring, and NOT a leak.

      Coffer damns usually aren’t completely watertight. They are temporary, so they aren’t constructed to the same standard as a permanent damn. Doing so would be cost prohibitive. It’s cheaper and faster to accept minor leaking and pump 24/7.

    Secord Dam looks to be a little "over-kill" for just one gate. Not sure what purpose those "metal roofings" are for. The spillway didst need to be that elaborate also. Alot of cement still being poured. Sis and husband's pontoon still parked in their garage 1-2 mi in front of dam. They're holding their breath still to see what the property owners are going to have to fork over! Supposedly, their dam Done by end of the year, raising their water level on the river. At least their grandkids can use their kyaks in river off their dock!

    Just my opinion, it’s a shame all those people own homes on the lakefront. The same flood could happen anytime, just might to let the river free.

    So if we are paying more taxes. Why can’t they all be done at same time why does one company have to do it all?

    • @gth042
      @gth042 7 месяцев назад +2

      It can actually cost more when a big chunk of a construction market gets diverted for one project -- outside/"normal" demand outstrips supply and the companies charge more accordingly. There's also fixed costs to get the equipment there, site/specific training and permitting, and such that each company bakes in to the price. Then, arguably the big one, project management across a "coalition" of competing firms toward one goal will stall and undermine any project. In the absence of a ruthless dictator, these guys aren't going to play well together if they're doing the same job. SpaceX, for example, is about the only group I can think of who can employ competing contractors on the same large-scale job to any productive effect. It's best to keep multiple groups divided by specailty for the sake of cost. The tradeoff, as you observe, is time.

    • @jjk907
      @jjk907 7 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly. I believe they were to competitively bid some of this project. The schedule is probably being dictated by the state agencies involved in the approval process. And if you have ever worked with the state for permits...well its a quick path to ulcers!! Nothing like the tail wagging the dog. I certainly wish that some of the time was spent on alternatives. Spending millions on emergency spillways and not helping in the flooding issues downstream isn't sensible engineering.

    Good god no wonder this is taking so long. Why do they need to do this at Sanford but not edenville?

    • @MikeBear1231
      @MikeBear1231 7 месяцев назад +2

      Likely because Sanford lost the ENTIRE earthen dike from the flood, destabilizing the whole concrete dam itself. Edenville only blew out one end of that dike.

    • @rjgoniea
      @rjgoniea 7 месяцев назад

      I'm going to assume by "this" you mean building coffer dams around the spillways? Who says they don't have to do this at Edenville? They have yet to start reconstruction on the spillways there. And they are going to have to do something to divert water from the spillways while they work on them. I imagine that they'll create a diversion channel where the earthen embankment failed just like they are doing at Sanford. I can't quite figure out how they will divert water from the Tobacco river spillways though. Doing so would either mean letting that side of the lake fill until it started flowing under M-30 again, or dredging a deeper channel under M-30 so that lake level can be maintained. I doubt they would cut a hole in the embankment on that end of the dam, especially after they put in the impermeable core of cement and bentonite. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
