I don't think so, he has a wife, children and grandchildren, I think those were excellent distractions. I think he had to force himself not to constantly dwell.. Besides look how he treated Artimus, he seems to be all about the money. He's made a ton of money with this "cover" band, he's good. But he and greedy Judy made sure they didn't share the wealth. In my opinion, the band died on 10/20/1977.

I met him backstage once, sort of. I could tell by his glare, he didn't want to talk or say hello to me so I just avoided him. He could have been in a mood but he seemed like a mean SOB. His band was very cool though. They were about to play Sweet Home AL on The Voice. I said, man, I wish you guys were doing The Breeze! The keyboard player said Yeah, me too! I wished them a good performance and high-fived them (except Gary), but it was still cool.

    wow,,,,,yes, a tear or two.
Gary's great !!! Guy was broken up but made it.
I bought an Epiphone Firebird recently and the first song i wanted to play was "I Ain't The One", Allen, Gary then Allen. man,,,,
Glad he mentioned Simple Man. This was the first LS tune i heard, via KSAN, '73. Couldn't buy the album fast enough.
saw them at Winterland, CDB, LS, MTB. Stole the show !
Also, 4th Of July (actually 2nd) Day On The Green, '77. I watch Freebird here like once a month. Looks like me in a crowd shot :), RIP, RVZ, and everyone...
btw, Gary's a pretty kickass guitar player. Fun when we covered Simple Man and Gimme 3 Steps 15 or so years ago (they still do). Co guit for the former, me the latter. Good times !
Gonna fire up the Firebird for Lend A Helping Hand. That tune has slayed me since the first time i heard. it. Almost all Gary here.
    Rock on, Mr. Rossington !!

I was 14 yrs old when Ronnie Van Zant was killed. I am a southerner living in GA and Lynyrd Skynyrd was my favorite band. I will never forget waking up that morning and hearing my parents talking about it and how sad it was going to make me... I just stood in the hallway and cried. And I just had to stop writing for a minute because the tears began to fall..... Lynyrd Skynyrd will always be a part of my life. I was so upset when I heard about Ronnies grave being desecrated. I've been there and put flowers down but it's been a while....
these negative comments really piss me off and the people making them wouldn't survive one day of what Gary Rossington has been through. He was always my favorite Skynyrd member after Ronnie. I will always love this man and the music.

I was there all day, watched the sound check. I was an active musician myself at the time. It was 1977 in Wheeling WV. Right after they took on Gaines. I learned most of the songs on the first album by ear. Sad but true story. He's right..Ronnie never got to see his fruit tree grow and Allan just seemed destined for the end ever since the crash. Damn he made a great point..the guys didn't get to see the impact & longevity of what they created. They had success..but today..all these years later..especially Freebird..everyone in the WORLD knows that song. Personally..I don't think they ever made a mediocre song..EVERY song kicks ass. They're not legends bc they died..they're legends bc in the short time they were here they created a lifetime's worth of legendary ROCK & ROLL. ❤️

I grew up in the 70s those are my favorite years in live besides the 80s when I married my wife of 33 years and I'll tell ya this. cars in the 70s were going down the road playing (I want to fly like an eagle) and peter frampton was playing g alot along with gary wright (dream weaver) but in the mist of all that music being played, I was listening to lynyrd skynyrd because I had southern roots my folks were from ky so that's where it all started for me. seem like I've been listening to them all my life.... and still do

No distracting and irritating runs and riffs from this lady; just tough, husky, and powerful singing.

Actually written about Allen Collins, who kept wrecking every car he drove driving wasted, the last wreck before the tune was penned, AC crashed his brand new Lincoln into "an oak tree" hense the lyrics "Whiskey bottles and brand new cars...oak tree you're in my way" 🤷
With that said, the song's message of death being around you certainly fits Gary Rossington to a Tee the last 4 plus decades

Free bird is one of the world's most beautiful rock songs even without the crash...I have to hear it once a day or more a day no lie you really feel their unity in the California concert easy 2 or 300,000 people there and when the guitar solo's kick in the crowd goes completely bonkers , the rush I get pushes me over every time I really can't get enough of free bird it's got so many moving parts everybody knows where and what their role is and they exicute with pure precision what a Fricking song man !

That interview made me cry, I'm 54 now so much amazing things has happened in my life, such powerful Love in that group such good memories of when I was younger and my partying days sometimes its so sad when realize alot of the people that really touched your heart are gone now, in Heaven with God, and see so much anger around you in this Present Era and realize how many good people are gone it's sad, but the flip side is I got to alive in time of great changes In our world, I know I won't be around forever in this dimension but it sure makes me sad to see what this younger generation is going to have to deal with, I had it made comparitively speaking, thank you Gary and God bless you brother 😁🙏🙏

Music like skynyd, lyrics in ''Simple Man'' ..''don't for get for you my son, there is someone up above'' acknowledged God.
