Love everything about these guys. Their sound, their songs, their upbringing, their long and heroic struggle to the top. What a dream Steve must have been living. To seamlessly slide into an already established Super group and be able to make real and substantial contributions. Awesome talent

That plane crash was a great loss to all of us.
I remember seeing this in a movie theater before whatever movie I was seeing that day. I clearly remember getting up for school that day and my mom telling me about the plane crash. "That's what this country is all about, being free and I think everybody wants to be a free bird" - Ronnie Van Zant -- That was then and for 200 years before it. Generations have since been indoctrinated to support socialism, government expansion, bans, dictates, bureaucracy, opposition to their own rights, mandates, micromanagement, redistribution of wealth, government funded abortion, over regulation and the taxes to pay for our own Progressively advanced oppression. Luckily, enough American principled voters showed up to defeat the indoctrinated Democrats in 2016! Long live liberty and God Bless America. Long may she reign in liberty under God. Remember that our rights come from God, for if they don't then that leaves government and if the American mindset rejects God, then that changes the belief to our rights came from government and THAT is when disarmament, free speech, freedom to assemble and all of our other rights will begin to be weakened and finally taken. There are two options people. Number one is that we are here because of our Creator. The other is that out of nothing, a reaction happened that was sparked by nothing and everything in this universe came into being from nothing all by itself.

Your dad knows good movies. The Last Waltz is my all-time favorite rock movie. Play it every Thanksgiving, the anniversary of the concert. A tradition just like Alice's Restaurant.
I saw this in the movie theater in 1978. At the end, which unfortunately got cut off, the word scroll tells about the plane crash and who got killed. Many people in the audience, including myself, were unaware of the crash and moans and gasps of disbelief came from the audience. Back then, people missed a lot of news. You had to be there. I thought it was great of Pepsi to do the tribute. I just was watching old Skynyrd videos and I thought of this, and wanted to say thanks for posting it.
I saw it in the theater too. It was the summer of '78 before the movie Grease. I had no idea who or ever heard of Skynard but I never forgot this film. At the time, I was amazed at how many people were in the band.

The band played several shows in California in 1977, but Leon is talking about Star Wars which came out in May (77). I'm guessing the footage is from either Fresno or Anaheim in August of 1977.
I would do anything to go back to October '77 and tell and convince Ronnie(and their cheapskate manager Peter Rudge) what an arrogant bully and Jerk he was to his friends/bandmates and roadies to go on an old no good Piece of s*** plane that eventually taking their lives, all because he was ready to die himself.
I still shed tears today.... After Oct 20-1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd was gone forever, but there soul will live on till the end of time. So for any of you that have seen the "so called" Lynyrd Skynyrd band after that day, just remember, you've all been duped. You only saw a tribute band with Johnny who does not have anywhere near the voice nor presence that Ronnie Van Zant had. And Of coarse losing Steve and Cassie Gaines was equally as important. One of the biggest losses in the history of music. They had so much more ahead of them....RIP to all who left us that day.....
A Jonesy I hear what you are saying man, but I did really enjoy seeing Rossington-Collins in 1980....it was so great to see those guys then and REALLY close to the stage and I remember my mind kept thinking about those guys going through that damn plane crash. What a loss for music, right when they really achieved superstar status.
Well . it took a couple releases for the new Skynyrd to get their Mojo .. but the last couple albums were darn good ... whatever you prefer to call them .. I enjoyed a few songs off those releases .. when I saw them at Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct they did not play one song that the newer singer Johnny sang .. in other words stuck to the 70s .. I understand your perspective .. but if I like a song .. I don't need to justify why .. I hoped they would play at least a song or 2 from the newere releases but they stuck to a play list .. just like FM radio these days
A Jonesy On the tour they were on in '77 they were scheduled to be in Dallas/Ft.worth in early '78 and tickets were on sale. When everyone got back on their feet and Rossington-Collins Band hit the road they honored the Skynyrd tickets. September 12 1980 they played at Will Rogers Auditorium in Ft.Worth. I was 7 rows back down front on the floor.Such a great concert that I'll never forget. Just like you I thought of all they had been through and was proud for them that they could carry on. They played all the new RCB stuff from Anytime anyplace anywhere and the put a hat like Ronnie's on the mic stand and rocked an instrumental Freebird to close out. In those days the seats didn't mean anything, everybody was on their feet and it was damn near mystical with joy and sadness mixed together. Edit: I was addressing pajasa62 Peace from Texas

I grew up in a small town in north Georgia in high school the first time I heard Lynyrd Skynyrd, I was an instant fan. To me they were and still is the greatest band ever. In 1977 they were coming to Chattanooga and I already had my ticket but the plane crash happened I think the week before. They are without a doubt the greatest band I never got to see live.
"There are "things goin' on" that you don't know." By Lynyrd Skynyrd Propaganda is “Think of the mainstream media as a great stage on which government can play.”

I tried to find my place in RocknRoll. But it's not easy. Gotta get out there first. And that's the hardest part when nothing seems to line up right. Heartbreak would also set the pace, and wreck the place. I rejected the thrill of the pain for too long. Pain pays. Mental, or physical. Controlling it for success, is the key. Stuffing it away somewhere is not the key. Every day you age. And every day you're away from it, is another day your musical soul dies within you, when you won't allow it to express. If it's in you, express it. You either have it, Or you don't. But do not allow yourself to decide that very thing. Create music. Put your heart into it. And allow the love to flow through it. And the people will let you know if you win. Not you.

had the Bootleg for this year's ago plus they used to show this at the midnight movies
Man, this was short to me. I wanted MORE. Greatest band of all time in my opinion. Ronnie Van Zant: a soulful songwriter and one gorgeous man, too!
thanks for the upload, they were then, and still are the best today, this band the 70s original band I'm talking about.
Freebird is the best live recorded song ever! These guys were true artists, their work will live forever! R I P God bless
Id give anything to go back to 1977
If you want back in time you'd only be putting back your reconciliation with the Good Lord.
A Jonesy
I hear what you are saying man, but I did really enjoy seeing Rossington-Collins in 1980....it was so great to see those guys then and REALLY close to the stage and I remember my mind kept thinking about those guys going through that damn plane crash. What a loss for music, right when they really achieved superstar status.
A Jonesy Skynyrd died with Ronnie. Without Ronnie it has no voice
Well . it took a couple releases for the new Skynyrd to get their Mojo .. but the last couple albums were darn good ... whatever you prefer to call them ..
The magic was gone w/o Ronnie
Edit: I was addressing pajasa62
Peace from Texas
music heals the soul. When I was an active musician playing music when every thing gelled right it was and still is better then sex. It truly is the best drug in the world.
the end did get cut off sorry to say i have the 35mm version
I wonder if it's available anywhere else?
Wanted share with all of you. From my personal collection.I appreciate this very much but as a greedy fan does any 1976 live at the fox still excist
Jk Stax
Haven't seen anything.
To me it's my favorite live album. Live Bullet is a close second
thanks for this stuff man, thanks a lot.
cheers
Man, thanks for posting this Randy! I've been a life-long fan of Skynyrd and have never seen this. Kind of reminds me of 'The Song Remains The Same' in the way it gives an introspective into the lives of each band member. Well, most members at least. The music has more weight to it after seeing this.
Lead guitar player Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest complimented one of their songs in a old Guitar Player magazine interview.
Thanks for the video, R.I.P. TO ALL THAT HAVE PASSED ON, YOU ALL WERE AMERICAN'S THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, COUSIN FIGEL
Great clip dude. Thx!!!
Coaches could beat the hell outta ya! Seriously 😐
Ronnie van Zant and the original lynyrd. skynyrd band will forever be the greatest rock n roll band of all time
Does anyone know if they ever recorded this concert
Love watching this, the boat Bad Company, the renewed energy on stage. Thanks for posting!!
This is some great footage.. and audio.. a treasure..
Wish we could go back to that day when RVZ & Gary were fishing ...Haunting what followed..
I wonder if they recorded the full concert.
They followed around the band for a month and recorded it all.
@@gewdferyew4844 They should release it at some point!
Aaaaand why can this whole concert be released????
PEPSI ?? Are You KIDDING Me ? Just NOW Look At The What Their Commercial's Emphasize - Garbage !
Gives you a real sense of how young they were - so good, so young. Imagine being 30 and on top of the world and then basically "done." Too weird.
Steve gaines joined up and inspiried the other guys to play better and took the band to a whole new level of greatness
tru dat
;(
Hey Artimus, Love you brother. You don't know me but you taught me to play 40 yrs ago on my 4 piece Ludwig kit with Zildjian cymbals. You made my dream come true.

Jealousy
Thank you so much Randy for this share. I have seen so many over all these years but some never as these. Wow! Long live the Lynyrd Skynyrd band.
Thanks for sharing that. I remember seeing it in the movie theatre.
R.I.P. TO ALL, COUSIN FIGEL
At least they got to see Star Wars before that God damn plane crash.
Steve and Cassie were a God send to Skynyrd
Took the little lady to see Grease and this came on first. Heck Yeah!!!!!
Man, great vid, thanks for posting it..I was smiling the whole way through!
Those boys were in the process of taking off, big time..just listen to the fervor of the stadium..they had finally attained "super-stardom"..and then..
Think you for shareing this im useing my wifes youtube i was born in 86 but from the 1st time. i played my 1st song was sweet home alabama
After that i learned was i right or wrong and to me alot of kids out here today dont no what being a singer song writer really means most can sing but have someone wright there songs if you can sing and wright to me thats what makes a real band or just a singer song writer.i might not have ever got the chance to see them live but boy i no all there songs by heart and can play them to god bless from The hills of NC and god bless ronnie van zant and godbless all those who passed away that day but they will never be forgoten i just wonder sometimes if they would have made it what songs we would we have got.
Is this your first time on RUclips?...
All these comments are 100% right..... lynyrd skynyrd was the best band ever....ever...a bunch of really good guys, unreal music....they were just beginning, just getting started....just bums me out...I can't say I have a favorite...they all ruled....simply the best band in the world....
"Oak tree you're in my way" 🌳😭
I grew up in a small town in north Georgia in high school the first time I heard Lynyrd Skynyrd, I was an instant fan. To me they were and still is the greatest band ever. In 1977 they were coming to Chattanooga and I already had my ticket but the plane crash happened I think the week before. They are without a doubt the greatest band I never got to see live.
"There are "things goin' on" that you don't know." By Lynyrd Skynyrd
Propaganda is “Think of the mainstream media as a great stage on which government can play.”
Sadness Serounded, the Band, Cassie, and Steve Gains, brother and Sister, buried, in the same grave site,Mom died shortly after in a car accident, not far where 2 children are buried❤,
I tried to find my place in RocknRoll. Not you.
OK snowman, don't get worked up.
And melt away.. ❄
@@michaeldonnan6767 That was friendly talk or advice to someone. Obviously not to you. And btw I wasn't "Worked up". took em a year just to let me see the last one posted to me. SMH
These boys shouldn't have gotten on that dilapidated plane. Aerosmith turned it down when they looked at buying it. Who the hell let these boys climb on that thing??? They'd still be making music today!
I remember seeing this @ the movie theater before watching “Grease”
A sad and tragic and beautiful story. Fly on.
Really good to see fresh RUclips footage of the "old" band.
Thank you so much for sharing your collection so we can enjoy them - outstanding!
Amazing seeing Allen and Steve playin in sync
Keg parties in the 70s and jamming our to Skynyrd the good old days .
