Probably the most textbook "Progressive" piece ever done by the MB's. Actually sounds a lot like a track you might encounter on the first Crimson album. This has to be the last track I'd ever have thought the Moodies would attempt to play live, so kudos to the Brummie lads for their bravery. Great stuff.
Mike Pinder said something like ( but I am not quoting here ) : ' Keep your head above the clouds but your feet on the ground ' ... Amen to that. I just heard about his passing on 4.24.24 at age 82. RIP Mike Pinder, thanks for all of the great music !!
Thanks so much for this clip. What a wonderful glimpse into the early years of the beautiful Moodies. I saw them (finally) in the mid '80's, they didn't look a day older! The concert was sheer heaven, no one sounds like these guys, I absolutely love them.

As a young teen, this song perked my early interest in the human history and philosophy…to embark on a life time journey of discovery, out and in. Many thanks to the moody blues for endless listening pleasure and for guidance along the Higher Plane.
Taking the film quality, and video quality of that day. Considering everyone is stoned immaculate. This song takes you into that cosmic level that the Moodies experimented with, then denied they could go their. The talent was remarkable. A mix of genius, ability, and then the truth of their endeavour. forever strive for perfection in your endeavours.... kutter
This video shows why I admire these guys so much...talent unequaled and they have retained all of it. With the tuning issues it makes it so REAL which I especially love! I so wish that Mike P. would have stayed with the band but life takes it's twists and turns. My boyfriend took me to see them in concert - Cardiff, Wales 2010 and I tell you...when they walked in I felt that I was in the presence of genius. Their music: transcendent. ~Moodies Fan Forever.
I can hardly believe they played this mind-bogglingly difficult piece live without trying to play at least two instruments each simultaneously and got away with it. I think that Mike is playing the piano part on the Mellotron here. Fantastic. Thanks for posting.
started listening to The Moody Blues in 1973. I was 13. My first recording bought was their 8 track😁, This is the Moody Blues.. What a treat to see these guys playing the songs I listened to constantly growing up .. The flute always was my favorite of all. Boy, was he handsome. And learning he was the founder of The Moody Blues was doubly nice. Love the history on RUclips. Thanks for downloading. What a gem. .
On the 55th anniversary of the release of On the Threshold of a Dream (4.25.1969) I found this live clip of the Moodies performing Have you Heard/The Voyage...RIP Mike Pinder.
Awesome to listen to this old recording with Mike Pinder still part of the group (thanks for sharing it). This is serious music-making, totally transporting, as always, for the unforgettable and ultra-talented Moody Blues.
Pinder was a musical mastermind of the group i think. his compositions have the most innovative, experimental elements of the entire works they made. with his talent and direction. the group could be 'progressive' at that time. i don't know what he's doing these days but he left big legacy. thanks for the rare vid. :-)
How unfortunate it is that we have to listen to the sloppy, monosyllabic drum fills during this otherwordly composition and performance. It must have infuriated Pinder to have to sing and play against the sonic backdrop of what sounds like someone falling down a flight of stairs.
The Moodies and the Beatles, 2 bands where the whole is greater than the sum of their parts. Justin is their heart,Mike is their soul, Graeme is their energy, Ray is their whimsy and John is their head and the glue that holds it all together. They absolutely belong in the Hall of Fame, unfortunately I fear they'll never make it unless the above 5 can find a way to come together 1 more time to remind everyone just how good and relevant they were/are!!
Me growing up in the 1960's in the US for the last 46 years my parents bought all the MB LP's as they were 'word of mouth' at any University.. We did'nt get to see them live and not until the WEB could I have been blessed with witnessing this 'footage'. Iam such a huge MB fan but there was never any movies or video's out(in the US) of their early years until just recently... Thankyou for sharing!
I completely disagree I think they're live concerts were more sought-after than their albums. They still draw a crowd. Take a look at their Red rocks concert live...... It is and will always be a classic.
Extraordinary music, extraordinary band! Saw the band in concert in Oct 1972, it was magical - hard to find the right words to accurately describe my emotional reaction. Saw the band again in concert in the Fall of 2014 sans Ray Thomas. There were moments I actually wept in my chair to the sound of the music. People forget what a creative and tough guitarist Justin Hayward was
Is, he's still touring.
This vid is great! I didn't know that Pinder sang lead ? The Moodys are so original, to this day there is no one else that sounds like them!
In that band whoever made a song sang it!
I never thought I'd see this amazing song on video. Yes its not "polished" like the studio version but wow.
Wow! A jewel!!!
Brave to play this live
Beautiful song and message etched into our Hearts and Minds. The Moody's music will live forever. May God Bless them! 🙂
This song takes you into that cosmic level that the
Moodies experimented with, then denied they could
go their.
The talent was remarkable. A mix of genius, ability,
and then the truth of their endeavour.
forever strive for perfection in your endeavours....

Magic! Thanks for this incredible post.
Beautiful so great to see this!
This was a killer album every good boy deserves favour
We want more Mike Pinder!!!
Thanks for this step back in time, it was brilliant!
Really rare and good!
I wish I was born in the 60's so I could enjoyed this music live (oi was born in the late 70's).... I wish Mike could play again with the guys....
I can hardly believe they played this mind-bogglingly difficult piece live without trying to play at least two instruments each simultaneously and got away with it. I think that Mike is playing the piano part on the Mellotron here. Fantastic. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for uploading this wonderful footage!👏👏👏
started listening to The Moody Blues in 1973.
What a gem. .
On the 55th anniversary of the release of On the Threshold of a Dream (4.25.1969) I found this live clip of the Moodies performing Have you Heard/The Voyage...RIP Mike Pinder.
pinder had always the unique tracks of the moodies. great !!
Frig the Hall of Shame ! In or out, they were phenomenal !!! They evoke so many wonderful memories for me.

I couldn't see that live because I was just born that day… So at least I have an idea of what I have missed…. Wonderful!!!
It's grand to see such footage!
Watching their performance is my dream! There'll never be a Moody Blues again.
Not unless the sons and grandsons put something together
an incredible song!
Thanks a lot anyway. You don't have idea how much I enjoy this video. Hugs from Mexico.
Pinder Rocks!
They were really a studio band but, this composition is as acid as anything ever done. Long live Mike Pinder !!!
I've seen them 6 times from 1970 to present and I can tell you that your opinion is false.
I completely disagree I think they're live concerts were more sought-after than their albums. They still draw a crowd. Take a look at their Red rocks concert live...... It is and will always be a classic.
They were a brilliant studio band AND an incredible live band.
Also seen them 7 times from the 70's on to 2016. Twice with full backing orchestra! They have always been a great live band and never disappoint.
(signed: combat veteran, retired U.S. Army Airborne Infantry)
