Been looking at colors for my engine bay as it’s purple right now and I wanted to go towards the dark blue color but after watching this video I’ve made my decision. This color shift is perfect to keep the og purple with the new dark blue look

I've painted this before and I've noticed if you use a blue base instead of black it seems to have a little more pop to the color.

I have used this same color on a car model. Testors, who is owned by Rustoleum, makes 4 colors. Another one I tried is the hold to green shift. I have used a clear coat from Testors that gives it a good wet look.

I have gone and done my whole street stock dirt track car out of the cans. Its not bad even with me being a crappy painter.
God bless you bro. This motivated me to finish my gst(dsm)! I’m going to boost leak test it and replace the broken t bolt clamp from advance for 5.46$ rn and then clean up that engine bay. I painted Celica red on my channel using rustoleum and some acrylic hardener, it’s come out decent and way cheaper than what I could afford at the time. Paint still holds up. Long as the body work is good. Let’s admit body work is hard but if you don’t have the tools or the patience, it will come out shoddy. I worked at Maaco and learned a lot of good and bad techniques. The great thing I learned was that you can totally mess up and fix it :). Don’t be afraid just how you’re not afraid to take the ratchet to any bolt including the rod bearing or main bearing bolts.. that’s something not everyone wants to do. If you wanna learn body work tho I suggest you check out that Celica video. I’m probably going to go back and fix it and make a video on how to fix multiple cars in different ways.
Btw we had a joke at the shop at Maaco.. hopefully you realize how true it is btw especially when you’re learning. “Do it twice, make it nice”. It was basically when the customer or the boss didn’t like the work. Someone would literally have to go back and do another job lol. Never on bodywork but on several things for sure lol. Buffing which was where I learned was where I heard the term lol. Luckily I learned a great secret to buffing. Directly after buffIng, take some carnuba was and wipe the area with wax using one microfiber. Then after wiping the whole panel, take a new microfiber cloth and wipe off the wax. The wax fills in any imperfections and 100 percent makes a black car able to shine without buffing marks. Even if the wax dries up and is left unwaxed for months the level is still good. I think it’s inportant to buff your car every 6 months or so if you live under trees and pollen ridden states like I do in FL. It’s important to always wax a car. You can really make a car paint job, any paint brand last longer with wax. It’s just a uv protectant that protects the clearcoat. It prevents fading, keeps the car cleaner longer, prevents rain drops.. makes the car look freshly painted every time. Sorry for the rant.

You should do another video on this paint. I did my hood roof and trunk. And it came out a little tiger stripped. Maybe show some tips on panels and flatter surfaces.
Have you put any thought into using rustoleum clear in the quart can, mixing in custom color pearls and using a preval sprayer? It'd technically still be a rustoleum spray paint job so it'd fit the theme.

So I just now finished spraying bedliner on the back plastics of my Nissan second-generation Xterra but something just went completely entirely wrong or maybe not wrong all I know is I deafly need help and I know you are probably the best guy to contact. I would love it if I would be able to send you a video of my somewhat finished work of the bedliner on the back of my car so that you can give me tips On maybe how to correct or fix it if I can fix it from what I’ve already done or do I have to start all over? Question: say you spray paint/clear coat, if your spray it over taped over areas, will it peel off the paint or clear coat since you sprayed around it or on it?

If you already have a clear coat is it best to wet sand it off first with 600 grit or can you just spray on the 2k. - Note: The clear coat currently on isnt damaged but it doesnt look as good as the rest of the car because I didnt use 2k clear coat

Yes! Sanding is so important
So you don't have to sand primer before painting?
Craig Mincey as long as the primer is smooth and don’t have a horrible rough feel to it then you are good but wet sanding lightly will help adhesion but I never had a issue doing it this way.

Looks great guys! Love your work. What clear coat works best with this paint? Rustoleum says its acrylic/enamel based. Do you recommend 2k over the Rustoleum for the clear coat? I plan on 2 or 3 clear coats. Do you suggest wet sanding between the clear coats or not really necessary?

yea I always do power steering delete on civics I prefer them like that. I will have a video on my new channel the Texas Honda channel on how I do them without changing racks

No because spray paint is atomized when it leaves the nozzle. Once its sprayed it will begin drying

ypcomchic no that’s a misconception. I hardly ever use high temp paint on my engine valve covers or on the engine block themselves. Never had issues and I even had turbos on most my engines and that’s some serious heat
I'm really curious how and/or find a high gloss pearl white paint that color shifts to electric blue only with no purple or other colors? Also, have you seen a pearl silver that color shifts to black pearl?
Jeff Gillis I bet spray max company who makes 2k clear could mix it up for you in a can. They do custom colors. I would google search spray max custom spray can colors.

Joe Barancyk I tried doing it to larger panels and with years of experience using a can it still didn’t come out right. I mean if someone else does it with can and makes it look good I wanna know how they did it. I mean it looked ok at best but this paint dries really fast that was my main issue. If it was colder outside maybe it would have helped keep it even.

Niko G They make other colors just they don’t have any here at this Autozone but if you google color shift Rustoleum paint you might be able to find the other colors
But I do want to do my whole car in this color and don't have access to anything but spray cans...

Chris Austin I never bothered on specific types of paint such as high heat or whatever but on plastic I try to use the paint that is flexible for plastic but I never had a issue using just normal Rustoleum 2x or advance formula on plastic and it never chipped off or anything and one paint job is now 4 years old still holding

You shoulda put the primer over the bare metal and prob shoulda sanded the primer
BlackNoire With the aluminum paint it has primer in it and never had a issue in any of my bays doing it this way. But I didn’t have primer at the time and there was exposed metal so it was to cover the metal until I got my primer but either way it holds up great for many years to come. My old civic from 4 years ago is still going strong and I did the exact same method used no flaking, chipping or rust jacking has occurred

Personally I'd of put the black primer over everything including the bare metal and gave it a quick scuff with some scotch brite before chucking the pearl on and defo a better finish with proper 2k clear coat, but to be fair it is DIY and under the bonnet so rattle cans suffice

In the video i show me going into autozone getting the paint then mention it lol. But mostly at walmart some from autozone and others off ebay
I noticed you said,"within 10-15minutes (applying clear cloat) otherwise it will have cracking in you paint."
I've had many of my projects were my base coat came out great but when I applied clear coat, it dried with cracks. Was that cuz I applied too late?
Paint needs to cure not just dry do your base the clear can be put on when you can’t smell the paint anymore that’s chemical being released. Do your base color then you want to wait a few days then clear.
