I'm confused - Steam reviews are not good for this one. Most point out it's just a poor console port.
So what is it now? Crysis was a PC game, so if it's now just a poor console port, I'm not really interested.

I feel the same man. Ive been replaying games from the xbox 360 days. I looked at my Nintendo Switch library and its 70% ports from the 360 days. Borderlands 2. Bioshock 2. Resident evil games. All these great games are more fun and arent bloated 100 hour busywork open world crap.
The older i get the more i realize that time is a fleeting thing and spending half a game roaming around a boring open world is not “gameplay”. Give me a tight single player linear campaign over a bland open world any day. I do have hope for Dying Light 2 and God of War ragnarok.

When the PS3 came out I switched to consoles... But my Windows 7 laptop last week decided to fry itself or something, the power system is completely shot only the battery worked and I had to get a new laptop, so I spent about $1,200 (between tax and I had to get an external DVD drive) and got an Acer nitro 5, figured I might as well get one that will last a long time (a gaming laptop versus a $400 "good enough" laptop...) Crysis 2's main problem, and one they couldn't fix here because it would take too much low level work, is the AI - in 3 you can pretty much play stealth properly if you want, but in 2 if one enemy spots you the entire world instantly knows where you are and that's the only real thing that can ruin the fun.

Crysis 2 is so underappreciated. Whatever it may have lost in shrinking the levels it gained in incredible environmental detail, variety, and pacing.
It's depiction of a Hollywood New York disaster in a cinematic Half-Life style journey through a single day and night is extremely well-done. It starts out sneaking past Cell in the early morning sunrise before escalating into full-on street battles with the Ceph through the night for a desperate evacuation.
It's soundtrack is also by far the best. The first and the third game's are ok, and share similar themes but are nowhere near as memorable. Crysis 2 has tracks like "SOS New York" and "Rampage" that sound like a high budget hollywood Hans Zimmer blockbuster and it's the kind of thing we don't really see in games.

There aren't enough games like this where you can feel so powerful in a real world setting(minus the aliens) it feels so freaking badass to switch between speed, strength and armour depending on your needs.
I honestly prefer that to just being an all powerful badass constantly like the Doom Slayer.
I just wish there was a bit more to do in these games with those powers, it feels like the strength in particular doesn't get a lot of love. Especially how throwing like one barrel drains all your energy.
Still though, they really make you feel like a super solider who's strong but not too strong for all the fun and tension to be drained out of it.

I think many people don't bring up Crysis as one of the greats because for years many people couldn't run the game and didn't play it until years later or never went back for it. I myself didn't play Crysis 1 and 2 until probably 2008 or 2009. Many of my friends just passed on the game completely they couldn't run it and usually just play the new game of the month. Hopefully the remasters bring in a whole bunch of new Crysis fans because these games are great and deserve to be remembered as more than a benchmark.

I remember crysis 2 being one of the first games I was beyond hyped for, counting down the days when it would release. Ever since I saw the first tech demo gameplay showcase and the cover article for game informer my jaw dropped. Of course the switch from og xbox to 360 blew my mind as well. But crysis 2 looks SO much better than almost everything else out at the time. I wish games would go back to innovating the same way we got mid xbox 360/ps3 generation. Where they actually take the interactivity of the game world to new levels. It almost seems like we've regressed in many ways, they prioratize raw graphics/textures/poly counts.. but when it comes to the GAMEPLAY and how the game world reacts to you, it feels sorely lacking. I still find it crazy that fear, a game from 15 years ago has better more realistic AI than 98 percent of games that come out nowadays.

I think the gaming industry is now focused (delusionally) on battlegrounds and Fortnite type games that bank and hope for in-Game purchases to boost profits - it’s become so Esport influenced where that’s all it tries to cater to. Remastered games are for people who enjoy gaming rather than , “E-Athletes” who see it as strict competition

Word is that certain media outlets were allowed by Crytek to post videos on the remasters ahead of the embargo for everyone else. Also Crytek gave outlets review guidelines about the do's and dont's in the reviews. Is this true? Did ACG get preferential treatment by Crytek?

Only reason I bought this. PC enthusiast, Rtx 3090, Ryzen 5900X. 2 and 3 use the hardware perfectly (For crysis 3 you need to go to nvidia panel and set vsync to "Fast" to optimise your gpu usage).
For crysis 1 remastered, the same issue that plagued the original game persists. Low gpu usage regardless of settings as it does not ultilise the CPU well....to my knowledge It only makes use of 1 or 2 cores, causing a bottleneck.

Why do you think Crysis games are so polarizing? My best guess is that the focus on graphics & performance cause a recoil reaction from people who don't want those elements overemphasized.

    • @GeekdomCentral
      @GeekdomCentral 3 года назад

I think a really big factor is the time when they released too. Whether or not you like Crysis 2, it’s a very different game from Crysis 1. Crysis 1’s emphasis was on a big open sandbox to let you approach things how you want and experiment. Crysis 2 was more of a linear corridor shooter, and then Crysis 3 was sort of a poor mixture of the two.
Not to say that any of those design goals are better than the other, but my point is that if you loved Crysis 1 because of that sandbox then I could understand how Crysis 2 would be a real disappointment
