Good job Curtis explaining defrost I agree with you on your stand about carrier and trane stay away from those brands thanks for the video
I have had Carriers but Thank GOD we have only had to Replace 1 Coil with a Stainless Coil about 20+ years ago and it was $ 300.00. Fast Forward 20+ years.
Wow!! That is ridiculous price for carrier evaporator coil. I definitely find another brand coil to replace it curtis. Great job in p.m.s
2nd owner Lennox heat pump owner here. System was installed in 2015. Took ownership of the property in 2021. So far we have replaced the outside unit's TXV - $1,200, variable speed indoor blower motor, another $1,200 and the indoor coil which was leaking. We were quoted $2,000 for the same copper/aluminum coil, or $3,000 for the all aluminum coil that supposedly Lennox fixed with the old one leaking. We opted for the all aluminum for longevity and we plan on staying awhile. The money we spent probably could had replaced the whole system or at least a good down payment. Not sure of the prices you are charging Curtis, but post covid, prices went through the roof with the supply shortages, and pretty much just because they can.
$1200 for TXV is a ripoff. Whoever you hired for those repairs scammed you. Very unprofessional of that company. Also Evap coils are not that expensive either.
@@llozano915 Depends. For JUST the TXV? Yeah, parts cost is vastly inflated, but depending on area of the Country you have to factor callout, hourly labor cost, recovery, replace, refill, test, and also warranty. It does sound high, but without knowing area, how much R-410a and duration of warranty I can't say it's a ripoff. Expensive yes, but details are critical.
Had a Lennox system, installed in 2012🤬🤬🥴. Wishing I hadn’t of done so!!! Been nothing but trouble! Out of warranty now so….
@@crashoverride328 That price did include labor, recovery, recharge and warranty. TXV replacement has never been cheap including the labor. The work was done in Pennsylvania.
"2nd owner Lennox heat pump owner"
Lmao it's not a fucking Cadillac dude, calm down lmao. And you're prices are fucking ridiculous, find a new contractor. The coil replacement price wasn't bad but everything else way too high
Very nice. Well detailed step by step
I see something similar in the computer world; some systems can be upgraded as demands increase, others really cannot, forcing the purchase of whole new systems. Needless to say, the systems I built could always be easily upgraded.
I hope the customer understands your point of view on this one, and you get to replace the air handler. Nice job.
Wow, That sounds about right for Carrier. I agree with you, and yes Trane does the same crap. I would measure that coil and see what will fit it and just replace it with whatever. Yeah, I know it’s so nice to have the ectzact part but hey. I used to go to my local Suply house with a tape measure they had a bunch of new A coils in one of their buildings I would measure until I found one close enough to work. Even if I had to change where the lines came out a little. They were selling me coils for less than 100 bucks believe it or not. The last coil I priced for Trane a few years ago I believe was about 1200. I had the same reaction you did believe me.
Will your cordless vacuum pick up leaves inside the unit?
You need a bigger hose. I carry the Milwaukee he has and a yellow bigger than that with a 2 1/2 “ for vacuuming leaves.
Scaring me. So many good years with Carrier, in 2020 replaced all with high end. Power problems yesterday, so shut off breakers. Today, tested all functions, all good. I fear losing an inverter drive or control board on the modulating furnace. All has surge suppressors, but never guarantee. Internet got taken down. Fiber interface and router replaced today. It was protected. Cheap manufacturing today!
Years ago it was cheaper to buy the whole air handler than just the coil.
Not a 100% sure, but it looked like the superheat adjustment cap was missing off of the back of the TXV where you were getting the refrigerant hit. 34:29
Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed he didn't check the TXV after getting a hit near it.
most of the TXV's in AC setups are non-adjustable and non changeable heads, as was the one in video. unlike in refrigeration where majority of them are adjustable and replaceable heads. that age coil with rust visible, it likely ate through the copper at the rusty end plate or right beside it at first few aluminum fins.
even if it didn't, replacing a TXV with it that crusty looking would very likely cause it to start leaking in short order.
@@throttlebottle5906 Thank you for the detailed reply, but not necessary as I am a HVAC/R Mechanic with over 20 years commercial and residential experience. I agree with your comment, but there are older coils that do have adjustable TXV’s. If you zoom in on that TXV, it surely looks like exposed threads. I could be wrong, just making an observation.
@@DC-do8vd I figured, many watching are in HVAC/R field.
I generally watch on a workstation with large monitors, vs. phone/tablet, so I usually see better, without even zooming around.
by the way, that is a solid brazed in bottom plate on that TXV, with a dimple in the middle, which I suppose is holding a spring centered inside. 😁
the general comment was for others that may read it and not know.
I did sell Carrier for about 2 years and stopped selling it because of the replacement parts pricing. Sucks.
Whats up Curtis 😊. I see your back using the Veto Pro Pac. Gotta love it! Mines loaded and heavy but I love it! Had a stuck contactor on a carrier 3 1/2 ton heat pump last night. Dang installer positioned unit access against the house wall. Hit my head on the quick disconnect a couple times. Did i mention it was at night with bullheads on ground and scorpions all around me. Az needs more song birds like your Georgia videos.
Well done Curtis
Thanks
I will be looking to see if an ADP coil would work.
Well done maintenance job Curtis, i Agree costs are getting out of hand now, even over here in Australia, maybe its time to avoid these big Greedy companys 🤔 Au
Yep agree 100% with your closing statement .
Good job, shame about Carrier and Trane. I noticed that HD no longer carries Trane. I wonder why.
Nice work Curtis.
Thanks!
I lost a couple of tools in the last two months. It sucks.
Had a cheap customer who wanted to lengthen the life of a really rusted l/l drier, did not want it replaced, he sanded and tried to paint it and caused a leak. Told him to not even look at it, avert your eyes, but he decided to poke the bear.
Could you elaborate more on the motor test, what signs are you looking for on a “bad “ motor
Cant wait to see coil vidioe 😊 but that's crazy for pricing tho anyways good job 😊
Glad you found an ICP evap coil for them. The Carrier price was outrageous. Glad you offered the customer a less expensive option. Lennox is another I stay away from.
Nice explorer ST
You missed the main thing to do on carrier older condensers, the zip tie on the suction line was broken, the compressor wires will short out to the line.2 cents.8:00 and 24:20.
I agree Carrier and Trane cost too much. Take care
the backpack is back!!!!
Oh no, ban airconditioners! They're killing our frogs! Those women be like damn those frogs! 😂
I would have to make it clear that for me to do a thourgh pm, I have to run the heat for a short period to make sure everything is good other wise I am not responsible if somthing I could not test goes out that it could be a costly fix
I have a question for a heat pump system ac technician came because suction line keeps freezing was a little low on Freon but not enough for the suction line to freeze checked blower motor and filters added little more freon but suction line is still frozen and thermostat is at temp
That’s the kind of thing a technician would have to look at to answer
Whats your stat set at? Is your filter dirty? Is your coil dirty, is your blower wheel dirty, are your vents shut, is your heat exchanger dirty? Is the txv metering correctly is your duct sized correctly these are all questions you can ask him. If he had yo add refrigerant you need him to find the leak. Just stuff you might mention to the tech
@@jhatfield2755 ac tech checked everything he said it was good gauges were reading correctly he checked filters basically everything & is at temp suite is cold all the way around no problems with that or thermostat only suction line keeps freezing up
@@enriquehernandez7673find another tech, he lacks understanding and/or knowledge
There’s really only three possibilities airflow, restriction, low on charge.
Man there is people out there that can buy a complete air handler and heat pump with electric heat all for 2.3k-2.8k, 1.5k for coil is crazy!
Air Flow systems are the same way. $1600 for a replacement coil only. The new unit with air handler is $10,000.
I think it's high time for an aftermarket company to make replacement coils, undercutting the manufacturer and upsetting the market. That's the best way to force the OEMs to be competitive.
That’s what happened with ecm motors
30:00 why you dont use accurate? Is it not working? Are you recommending Accutrak for micro leak? I am thinking to buy it one? Hope to hear from you soon 😊
Nothing scarier than a Carrier. Sounds like the coils are about as good as their heat exchangers.
Except York.
I can feel ur frustration that s why I installed Goodman in my parents ...brother...n my own home w 10 yrs all parts. Is no brainer....hey by the way who translate ur video to Spanish i rather hear ur nice accent than that. Being honest....also I always like n suscribe n recommend ur channel to newbies n rookies something great always come from ur channel I heard u play guitar also😅
🤓👋 Greetings my brother, here we continue learning
Thanks Curtis🙏🤓✌️
Anytime
What is the name of the tool bag that you use. Thank You Joe H Navy Seabee
Robel Cape
ICP IS CARRIER in case you don't know that!
ICP makes carrier products, and others at a lower price.
how much is the icp?
Less than the coil
Curtis do you work out of the Albany area?
Thanks for the great videos. I learned a lot about HVAC from them. I usually watch on RUclips television. so can not comment from the TV.
Glad you enjoyed
You can comment from the tv actually... Doing it right now lol
Carrier wanted $1050 for a 4 ton air handler fan motor and we all know they don't make motors. They are a rip-off just like John Deere. I haven't sold Carrier for the last two years.
Does anyone know a fix for when the sheet metal panel screw holes blow out and the screw won't tighten the panel? My screws are already pretty fat, are there fatter ones you can get?
McLaughlin Lake
Won’t any ICP coil work
If you can cross reference the numbers and find the right coil, yes
@@HVACGUYI’m sure the supply house could
The prices are getting ridiculous for sure!! I would attempt to weld the leak on the coil.
As a supervisor I agree with u 100% the way they treat contractors is disrespectful to their customersyou try to sell their product for a fair price and you don't meet their sales expectations so we all know it's about the Benjamin's sorry ass name just like TRANE ATYPICAL AHOLES WHO DON'T BUILD THEIR PRODUCTS JUST MASS PRODUCE THE NAME NOTHING ELSE IS RELEVANT keep doing what your doing
the detector sounds like a dying goose on detection..
😂
la manejadora sale mill docientos sinquenta y siete de 5 toneladas. bryant.
Yo se. Pero Cuesta más instalar. Prefiero hacer la evaporada
Hey Kurtis I can not even turn on the heat at home. Women will kill me here😅😢😮minus well order split systems w no heat strip ever rite? My opinion........

Hello
@@HVACGUY what up
I see you wearing a sweater. Is it starting to get cold over there?

Can’t wait for cooler weather hi for today was 101 in phx I’m done with summer
Finally, a vid with some meat in it.
You would think the business model was short sighted because people will go with a diffferent maker. However, if they all do the same then they know people will flip from one and back to the other so the status quo remains the same. At a time when we are trying to cut down on waste this business practice whould be legislated against and a fair price policy introduced and companies who fail to do so should be fined. Same with making parts available to everyone to allow repairs. Years ago I had a Philips standalone DVD recorder and even though I am an ex service engineer they would not sell a replacement DVD drive to me because it was deemed to be a health and safety issue because it contained a laser! What a bunch of cr*p!
Women and Heat are Not a Good Pair but Men and Cold Beer are. Bad enough when you get a bunch of cackling women together and then insert some Heat. 😬👎
On the evaporator coil that is leaking, how large is the leak? Big question is if it leaks but unknown how big a leak, it might take a refill and go 5 years or it may only hold for 1 year. To me, that makes me wonder what I would do as the owner. You can put in an aftermarket coil for how much less? Probably that is the way to go vs. new equipment, which is not really an upgrade, its more like a downgrade with a warranty because of todays poor quality HVAC. All of this expensive "new green and lean" HVAC is no good, expensive, short life span and all for nothing gained. Best off buying Goodman middle of the road products 80% furnace, 14 to 16 SEER single speed condensers. At least parts will be available and at fair prices the same day.
greed Curtis that's what America is all about
So wasteful... 1500 for a coil... that is ridiculous... and yes all brands who do this need to stay away from....
everything seems to be geared towards replace instead of repair. BS
