I used to take an eight sledgehammer extend my arm then touch my nose with it and bring it back to 90 degrees. Never broke my nose either. I was 73 the last time I did that. It was fun to was other farm boys try it. 😊 We always have good clean fun when together. I like the hammer strength test. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us all. 😊
Man I don’t understand why every farmer or technician doesn’t subscribe to watch your channel. It’s so informative. I haven’t farmed in 20years but I still work on a lot things. Not to mention you do such a good job explaining the whole process. Keep up the great work.👍
Being a Ford Tech for 48 years it's interesting to see how fricken hard your job can be heavy stuff dude! But your electronics and controls are very similar and we both have very similar concerns and repairs pretty kool yours are just Bigger!!!!
After a day's 12-hour work shift of repair of green 24 cylinder jenbacher engine . Evening dinner with the family . Children to bed . Let's see if there is anything else on youtube. Yes 1 hour of green machines. That is interesting and relaxing at the same time. Thank you the content
I am always impressed how you remember where everything goes back together! I know you have drawings and manuals but still, a good mechanic know where stuff goes.
Yeah so I’m autistic and just started agricultural college doing mechanics and one of my traits is remembering stuff really well so I guess that’s gonna be useful
Hi ZK. Another super interesting and enjoyable video plus very informative. Hi to Ben also. ZK you have a good helper in Ben. Very nice person and easy to talk about machinery. Learned a lot again. Never saw the rear end straw chopper apart before. Wow. More to it than I ever thought. You and Ben did an excellent job of dismantling the chopper. Amazing all the external pieces you had to take off to get at all the broken or cracked parts or pieces. Wow. Once totally disassembled it was not too bad getting all the pieces reassembled. It appears you ordered some and some you had in stock at dealership. My compliments to both of you on getting everything back together and working again. Nice work for sure. Assume you had your dodge truck there to use the crane on the heavy parts. The owner treated you both very nicely and a decent place to work. Of course, your truck had all your neat tools. Well anyway, good job on this one. You and Ben did the excellent John Deere technician work and ZK you were an excellent teacher once again. Thanks for everything ZK. Was interesting project. You take care and be safe. Until next time, you keep the green iron working. The Iowa farm boy. Steve 😊😊👍👍👋🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
In my younger days (much younger), at the coal fired power plant, we used a full-length 8lb sledge and lowered it to our nose using the wrist. Also, we'd pick up some 50s vintage metal chairs, getting down on the floor with arm extended and grip the base of one of the legs and stand up, holding the chair level. It takes a man for that last challenge.
Broke some hammers in ours, couldn’t feel it in the cab but I could hear it, and the safety bars on the sides were vibrating about an inch up and down! Luckily caught it before anything cracked.
Glad I'm too old for this stuff. I used to be able to lift similar weight to you Zeth, not anymore. Comes as a nasty surprise when you go to lift something and you just grunt. I got to that stage earlier this week, when I went to shift a small air compressor, first try I just grunted, second try, I grunted and lifted. Hope you don't reach that stage for a more decades. Still interesting job, would love to help, but distance and age preclude. As usual, best wishes, same to Ben, he's a good student, take care of yourself and see you next time. From UK.
Good channel and videos, keep em coming. I'm more on the industrial side, but interesting seeing what is similar and what is different with this ag equipment.
As usual great content Zeth. I'm just amazed at how cleeeeeeaaaaannnnnn the equipment is in your videos Back here in Blighty farm stuff gets mighty dirty. Cheers Julian U.K GTGIM
My Wilton BASH had the pins walk out of the top. They sent me a new one, but didn't count it as a break. I drove the pins back in and kept using it. Left it on the tracks of a Cat 323 or 336 and drove over it. It marred up the head and put a slight bend between the handle and head. I still use it daily.
I always click "like" and have been a subscriber for a while now. Is this under "warranty" work or customer's responsibility? There's a lot of "knives" missing which makes one question, exactly what happened further up inside the machine? You 2 are quite the pair. I gotta say, this is why I love and prefer the older equipment, seems like a lot less headache to work on, I know they are easier to work on. Always loved working "in the field" compared to the shop but, the shop does have it's advantages over the field. Great video as always, cheers :)
👍👍cuz 1 isn't enough and yes I'm a loyal subscriber. Always enjoy your videos, not a mechanic just enjoy seeing how things work and your amazing ability to keep these green/machines going. Nothing runs like a Deere.
Breaking the bat. When I was young and on the farm. I took a long handle sledge, held it at arms length and rotated my wrist back & touched my nose and took the sledge back to upright. No one else would try it. That was 60 yr ago.
Your videos are improving with every new episode and the content is always top notch. You and Ben work well together. Is there any chance that you could share background information on the people who work with you. I’m curious as to what kind of training/education they have had prior to working with you and your company.
GREAT Video Guys what a Job you guys make things look so easy REALLY ENJOY Watching Your Videos!!! Just Wondering what happened to Josh is he still working For Sloan? Haven't seen him for a while
You guys are great… I do have a problem with the whole green product line. The combine is a year old, so it went through a one harvest. You’re welding it so I’m guessing it’s not under warranty. It would be like buying a new car and having the frame crack the first month. This is why JD is in financial trouble.
Hey ZK I wanna see u change - Left Side Rear Feeding Cast Housing on S680 right where the rotor starts done it a couple times wanna see if u have an easier way
I get to work on my 7700 turbo combine this week. For some reason the header won't raise and lower. I may need you guys to come help out here in northern Missouri. 😂
I knew a block mason he was probably in his 60s he would take a 10pound 36” hammer from the ground and wrist flex it to his nose and back down. Never saw anyone else do it.
Hey Zeth, have you considered trying to put a vacuum on the hydraulic reservoirs when you have to disconnect lines to them? I've seen others do that (admittedly on probably smaller tanks) with something like a shop vacuum to pretty decent success in keeping the majority of the hydraulic oil in the reservoir while the lines are disconnected and capped. Not draining the reservoir, just pull a vacuum to keep the fluid in. Conversely, is there a reason not to do so other than possibly pulling all the fluid out of the lines backwards? Just a curious thought to give a try.
Have you had any fixing experience with the 12 speed twin disk in 9400 tractors? I am having some issues with mine, sometimes won’t change into gears. It will loose oil pressure in 7/8 clutch pack.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s amazing that combines work at all with all those moving parts. BTW. What happened to Josh who used to help you? Does he still work there?
Would be a bit of a pain to create an entire set, but if you weld an old socket onto an old air hammer point, you can go to town shocking those bearings off the shaft without slipping off the bolt.
In addition to my other comment, a small suggestion. Can you do quick walk-around functional explanations of the equipment? I understand it is a "chopper", but input -> output and type of crop it processes would be cool to hear.
the damage (cracks) may have been caused by the vibration? This should not happen to a brand new combine. Seems to me like something missed in manufacturing. But that will all get corrected when JD sends its mfg overseas / across the border. (ha)
Only skid loaders and compacts are moving. And it doesn't matter how new the machine is, if you lose chopper hammers it will vibrate and eventually break something if left unchecked.
Can I ask a question please, since your replacing all the broken or cracked parts what keeps the same problem ( cracked parts) from happening again, Tks

Mechanically inclined ones do. His 8370R ILS video saved me nearly $30,000. Took me 2 days to complete. Tractor is back in the field
because, reasons. This is a master at work but JD is no longer America's darling for some time. Look it up and find out what's what
I am totally impressed with you after watching some of these videos of complicated repairs you’ve done.
Zeth I love seeing the different problems you are faced with! Truly enjoy your channel!
9:35 that bat was bending!

I've never understood how the chopper worked until today. Great video gentlemen.

Josh changed jobs. But I still get to see my buddy.
I hope the warranty or insurance foots the bill on this one. Very skilled repair job🤘

Still wish Josh was there slinging it so funny
He is hilarious
Hi Zeth, Hope all is well with you as you have been on the dark side for a few weeks. Luv ya man. Julian U.K KTGIM
I'm one of the OG subscribers.I enjoy your content about the green machines. You're one a heck of a technician. Keep up the actual at work
i hope J.D are picking up the tab for most of your work, iv heard a lot of bad news from J.D
Same problem here this year too. On 790.
Was this under warranty??
I get to work on my 7700 turbo combine this week. For some reason the header won't raise and lower. I may need you guys to come help out here in northern Missouri. 😂
I knew a block mason he was probably in his 60s he would take a 10pound 36” hammer from the ground and wrist flex it to his nose and back down. Never saw anyone else do it.
Great video!
Just curious what caused this? Shooting rocks through the chopper? Some sort of factory defect?
Something like this under warranty? After one season?
Is this a warranty issue?

Send one of those hammers up to Canada and I’ll send you a video of another man showing you combine strong😂💪🏼
So, at the end of the day, never stand behind that green when it's in motion, you might see a blade or two whizz by....if you are lucky
Hope that’s a warranted repair
What type of steel does John Deere build these machines?
Great job
Buenas tardes, muy lindo video!!
hi zeth, have you ever worked on a jd forager? it would be quite interesting to see in a video
Only once
Have you had any fixing experience with the 12 speed twin disk in 9400 tractors? I am having some issues with mine, sometimes won’t change into gears. It will loose oil pressure in 7/8 clutch pack.
Well you have important work to do stay fit for duty
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s amazing that combines work at all with all those moving parts. BTW. What happened to Josh who used to help you? Does he still work there?
He changed jobs.
That's gonna cost some bucks hopefully they got the protection plan
Amazing!!
wonderful
who makes the linear actuators?
We use 12.9 bolt all the time, and i always use a power tool, and i have never sheard/exploded a bolt
Would be a bit of a pain to create an entire set, but if you weld an old socket onto an old air hammer point, you can go to town shocking those bearings off the shaft without slipping off the bolt.
I actually have an air hammer bit that has a male 1/2" drive square on it
Doesnt that hammer or A Wilton mini sledge come with a 6 inch vise?
Another great video! Get to the choppa! LOL
I drove a S780 and I could feel it in the cab that one or two knives were missing.
What part of Illinois are you 🤔 from? I'm in Lawrenceville.
Good videos even if it's the wrong green. :-)
Ooof man i hope the owner had a warrenty active
In addition to my other comment, a small suggestion. Can you do quick walk-around functional explanations of the equipment? I understand it is a "chopper", but input -> output and type of crop it processes would be cool to hear.
You have to watch my path of the kernal video for all the info you need!
I wonder what damage those missing chopper hammers will cause in future
You will never be short of work with John Deere green crap
You should start a coconut collision counter from now on. A “CCC” if you will.
Love it
I can't even do that with a 48 ounce hammer at my age whew dude!
the damage (cracks) may have been caused by the vibration? This should not happen to a brand new combine. Seems to me like something missed in manufacturing. But that will all get corrected when JD sends its mfg overseas / across the border. (ha)
Only skid loaders and compacts are moving. And it doesn't matter how new the machine is, if you lose chopper hammers it will vibrate and eventually break something if left unchecked.
Hey JD Corporate, you need to replace this under warranty.
Can I ask a question please, since your replacing all the broken or cracked parts what keeps the same problem ( cracked parts) from happening again, Tks
Keeping the chopper in balance by having no missing chopper hammers...
Nice job God bless..
Was there a rat hanging on the left side at 48:00 in the video?
