John Deere Grader Repairs! | Fitting Blade Skin & Replacing Blade Slide Rail

- We’ve got a lot to do to get this Grader job done in a short amount of time! This is a John Deere 672GP Motor grader, the blade is getting a new wear skin and we’re also replacing a worn-out blade slide rail. We show the step-by-step process to remove the blade off the grader so we can fit and weld a new wear skin on to the blade. We also show the steps to replace the bottom guide rail on the back of the blade. First, we gouge off the old rail using carbon air arc gouging before machining the new piece of material in our Zayer bed style milling machine. We then fit and weld the new guide rail onto the blade before installing the blade back onto the grader. We know our customer is going to be happy with the repairs and upgrades on their machine!

As an Ex Pro Sound and Audio Engineer who has had a couple of decades of experience in live events and pretty much all manner of media production all I can say is that it's all the little things that this channel gets right that lifts it well above the pack. Not only is Kurtis a true master of his craft but Karen's videography, editing and production prowess would be right at home in productions worth 100x what this channel sees.

Agreed. Kurtis' freehand torch cut is cleaner and straighter than some sawcut edges I've seen.

Dude, yalls channel has helped me in spades at the shop with ideas and processes for different jobs. Granted i had to modify a few things to some of your techniques to make what I had goin on work but overall I cant thank you enough for making vids like this for other fabricators out there like myself. Im slowly but surely building the weld shop at work from scratch to eventually be able to manufacture parts for our customers like you do. Eventually what I want to see my section of the shop do is be able to make whatever the hell the customer needs and not have to order it out of state and wait for months for the parts to show up like we and several other heavy equipment shops do now. When we are able to do that Im 100% sure those other companies will be contracting US to make parts for them as well as us taking care of our customer base. Might take 5 or 7 yrs to do that but im willing to wait and see what the fruits of my shops labor will come to bear.
When you got your processes down and know your business I'd recommend going solo and doing your own thing.
@@schwuzi Ive been slowly gathering equipment over the yrs to do exactly that, so far I have my lincoln 330mpx, LN25x, my tig machine, miller 211, hypertherm 30air, and a profax 4000 gouger. Im sockin away for a compressor that casn run off the genny welder, im not skimping on that bitch either.
Others may do a grade job but Kurtis' skills are much grader. 😁😎🤟

Those graders are a strange piece of machinery, the various directions they can move all at one time are both bizarre and fascinating. Take care guys. 👍
Not to mention the graders that can pivot the main frame at the cab place the front wheels in an offset position! Then there are the ones that can lay the front wheels over on an angle to resist the forces from the blade.
Watching a good grader operator is amazing as well. Especially back in the day without GPS.
You should try calibrating the GPS/sensors for the machine control 🤪

Hey folks I missed seeing you last week. A slide hammer for moving pins. In my world if I had thought that every pin on every machine would be set up that way. I would have been in heaven, LOL. Airarc is the necessary evil of every welding shop. They can eat up a pair of coveralls in no time. Nomex is an option but kind of pricey eh. 5 Vertex vices. Those cost a pretty penny. What a blessing having that long mill now. Great move getting it for your business
Your videographer has a great natural instinct for knowing what viewers want to see. She has honed her skill over time so that your videos have the highest interest level. Definitely keep her on payroll! Kurtis, you are a hard worker and thoroughly professional in all procedures - and yet have time to feed the birds! So enjoyable.

What a great asset that Zayer machine is and I love the way Kurtis uses a forklift truck with such precision, just like any other tool in the workshop! Nice video, both…👏👏👏
Yeah, the way Kurtis uses that forklift and with such precision you just know that he has put plenty of hours in with that machine.
Zero scratches on the counterweight, absolutely unheard of
I use to roll lead carpets(a large Pb spill)up with a forklift, absolutely amazing the license assessors when they come through every couple years

My favorited part of the video was the disassemble and reassemble of the blade from grader. Nice to see the manufacturers have designed in a reasonable amount of working space.
I also liked squaring up the slide rail.
Plus feeding of the birds as well as the Gourmet uber eats.

10:06 I envy your skill with that torch; I can't imagine how many hours of use it has taken to get that good. I also had to remember the only reason you were using a torch instead of a plasma cutter was probably because of the "Tax" on electrical equipment in the form of "Safety Inspections".
For those that don't know, Australia requires testing and tagging electrical equipment and the numbers I did find(South Australia instead of Queensland) for the cost, put it between two and three thousand dollars per piece of equipment. Kurtis mentions those inspections as one of the reasons he uses so many Air Tools in his Q&A from December, 20222.
That guide bar was a lot more work than I first thought.
But I guess that's because you did a PROPER job on it.
The attention to detail made sense as the job progressed and that blade is now pukka. 👌

Nicely done, that Biz 80 steel doesn't like machining, but it is ideal for the guide bar. Good start to Friday, been awake since 2:30, CEE post came through at 7:00. The use of Coppertec /Copperease really does make life easier if you have to remove bolts, nuts, pins, etc. It reduces the possibility of the fastener seizing up, which when you are adjusting gearbox backlash in the rain and wind, it is a most welcome product. Having to open the cabinet door to let the table travel all the way made me chuckle but it's seriously the sort of thing that happens in machine shops. No worries about not showing much of the skin adding process. There was plenty of that in a previous video. It was also a good reminder. For us this is entertainment and maybe some education for those in the field. For the owner of that machine, it's their their livelihood on the line.
