I appreciate how sparingly Brann uses double bass. Some metal drummers just ride it all day and it gets so boring. When he does it, it really stands out.
Brann's the only one in Mastodon who doesn't look like he's aged 30 years lmao. Troy turned into a greying wizard, Bill turned into an 1800's Pinkerton agent, Brent looks like an alcoholic uncle, but Brann still looks 30 lol
ALL Mastodon members matter! Lmao haha yeah dude! His style is uniqe, engaging and legendary. Brann is such an inspiring guy! I cant wait for new Mastodon!
The Lord of Entropy bill is extremely important, he writes a bunch of the riffs, dude is a riff machine while brent is the more technical dude who does more shredding. So ya bill is super important to the band, great player and a fantastic riff writer. He was the driving force behind their last album EOS, he did alot of really great stuff on that album
This guys runs himself ragged on the drums and writes incredibly complicated shit and when you see him play he just has the biggest smile ever on his face. He clearly loves what he does and so do we!
Brann: literally using every muscle in his body while playing extremely complex rhythms. Also Brann: Fuck it, I’m the lead singer now too. Nothing but respect lol
My buddies and I met Brann after a show (in Minneapolis on their Primus tour) and he was the nicest dude, totally made our night as we are all huge fan of Mastodon.
all the guys in mastodon (with the exception of brent probably) are just so nice and fun people. they're one of the only bands I'd consider meeting and greeting with because they are just renowned for being nice. other bands can show up to a meet and greet and lose fans because of how mean or grumpy the members are (the who, pink floyd, gnr), it kinda ruins the magic, but mastodon doesn't disappoint.
Possibly my favourite moment on the whole Crack The Skye album : " Sinister Twin! Choking on Fear....Bonded Iron Sink to the core....! " Chills every time.
I met him at a show in Portland. He was in the audience watching baroness and he was standing right next to my friend and I. I told him he was a drum God. He was super appreciative and he hung out there until shortly before their set. Super cool dude.
He is such a genuine human. Saw mastodon and gojira in Denver a couple nights ago. After thier set he came to the mic and thanked all of the crew and stagehands for the hard work and tossed all his sticks in the crowd
My girl is a drummer and she once tried to teach me how to play the thing, as I'm a big fan of the drummers. I was doing fine with just my hands, but the moment I tried using my feet as well I completely messed up and lost the plot. It's amazing how people can make these kinda stuff with those levels of precision. It's just insane.
I'm not a drummer but could obviously recognize how good Brann is. But actually watching him play is mind blowing and has brought him up even higher level for me
I remember seeing Mastodon live once and they played all of crack the skye and it was so incredibly loud and powerful, it was at that show that I knew what it meant to be truly face-melted
Oh, but they do. I think it's one of the songs they play on a regular basis from its respective album, Crack in the Skye. Brann Dailor is one of my favorite drummers in all of metal ^^ If you liked it, I strongly recommend listening to the entire Crack in the Skye album. It's my absolute favorite of theirs, and Brann just crushes it beginning to end. =)
You can really tell Brann was getting so into the groove while he was banging those drums. He looks so full of glee and I don't blame him, if I could play at his level I'd love to just knock out songs like it's nothing.
I had the honor and privilege of casually chatting with Brann at my friend's house in Memphis, where the band crashed that night. I asked him to show me the drum line from "Honor" by Today Is The Day, and later they played a CD (or tape) of their new music... March Of The Fire Ants. Also learned he was in an Elvis Costello cover band. I have no regerts.
i got to hang with him and bs for about an hour after a mastodon show in seattle. super good dude! gave brent hinds a dank nug and got a big hug from him haha. fun night!
Holy shit, why did the drums not sound this good on the record? That kit is fucking spectacular, and the mastering on this recording is absolutely incredible! I don't even play the drums and I'm ready to order Meinl cymbals.
same man! Really bug me when people say hes a one trick pony. Hes so much more! Hes one of the biggest creative forces in Mastodon. He writes tons of the lyrics, he comes up with album concepts, he does all the percussion with the little shakers and triangles etc and hes a killer drummer! Hes is a rare talent!
One of my top favorite drummers.he adds so much depth to each song its like a basic beat and full-on drum fill from beginning to end. It seems so improvised like there is no way you could ever play their songs the same way each time
Brann Dailor is like the Mitch Mitchell of metal. Very busy playing, but always with a clear beat and groove, i.e. the busyness never gets in the way of the songs, but elevates it. Awesome shit ❤
I already know this guy is a beast, but after more experience in music to understand their music better I declare this guy Godzilla on drums. Love Brann and love Mastodon.
Funny little story: I luckily got to meet Brann when they were touring with Slayer and the Jäger fest. I met him a few times when they were touring in FL and always had him sign the back of my license. When I asked him if he remembered me, he was like yeah i remember signing your license! Of course the dude seen so many people, so I understand he was just saying that most likely, but then again, maybe he did remember me. That was back in 05’ or 06’ great times. And what a beast on the drums!
it took myself awhile to comprehend that the gear you possess is not what makes the drummer-it's what you do with what you have, that makes one a drummer.
Finding this video a couple years later, wouldn't mind seeing Brann come back to do "Pushing the Tides." SOOO MUCH insane stuff going on in the song; I need to see how he pulls it off!
OMG. Just when I thought it is impossible that he has such a physical endurance to continuously hit the drums, he paused at 3:20 for an entire duration of two and a half seconds and had the time to recover. :D
I always love the drums in Mastodon. I’ve seen them live and they were amazing live. Definitely I would go see these guys live again. Plus I can’t wait for their new album to come out.
Great video! Love seeing a professional drummer up close doing something they love to do. Also - The Redd Foxx/Rodney Dangerfield bass head is amazing.
Love the fill from 0:00 to 5:15

ahahahahah!
Lol
Funny - but TRUE!
Who else here just wants him to go ahead and do every Mastodon song?
He should seriously do an album play through
Absolutely agree!
I'm wondering how many of these there actually are?
blkmtl96 hopefully lots more
😎
This is one of the best albums of the 2000s.
Absolutely. Crack the Skye is epic.
Pick up the instrumental version of it if you haven't already- it's a totally different trip just focusing on the tunes.
One of the best albums, with the best drummers of.... forever.
@@NoLimitHonky WHAT ? there's an instrumental version ?
@@TMmodify Its Crack the Skye Deluxe edition. All the regular tracks plus the instrumental for each
I appreciate how sparingly Brann uses double bass. Some metal drummers just ride it all day and it gets so boring. When he does it, it really stands out.
He used it alot more in the earlier days of mastodon like on Iron Tusk on Leviathan or on Remission
Wtf? He uses double pedals for like 3 min straight
He plays to the guitars, not the bass which is what separates him from anyone else
@@evancollier6407I think the comment meant that it's not something you see often in Mastodon in general, making this one stand out

"1800's Pinkerton agent"...best description ever! 😀 - Chris/Meinl
to be fair, they've been around for 18 years. not bad aging for rockers
I was thinking the same thing lol dude is a vampire

Drummers are like marathon runners, they are just in good shape (generally speaking).

Mastodon would not be Mastodon without Brann. What a beast of a player. So creative. I just love his lines.

@@JDubzDrumz same!!!!! Such a gem of a album and Brann is just a god on the kit. Ghosts of Kharelia is my favorite out of all👌
This album was nuts live. They sound even better live than on recording
there is an instrumental version of this album.
i wish all mastodon were like this.
PUT SOME BUTTER ON THEM DAMN ROLLS
He did--look at his hair!
The great thing about brann is that he uses the drums as an instrument, not a metronome like so many other bands

Mostly Rodney and Redd.
Definitely my favorite drummer. The "organized chaos" style... madness from start to finish, but madness with PRECISION
