Crazy I grew up in stevenage in the 50s and 60s and watched the queen officially open the new town, there was so many fields, ponds, woods, to play in, we moved in 69 but even visiting 5 years later so much was unrecognisable that's how fast it was growing from my days at fairlands infants then juniors finally Barnwell.

I was born in Stevenage in 61 .
My mum n dad moved from Harrow in 58 into a brand new council house ,they loved it compared to Harrow .
Dad had a job as soon as he arrived as he transferred from the same company to the new premises in Stevenage.
Growing up in Stevenage was great couldn't have had a better childhood.
Im still living here and now 63 years old.
This footage shows how clean and new it was ,today its looking very tired and run down in places .
Work has been going on to improve the town centre although iv not been down there for many years now

They've added a new coach station. Looks pretty clean. Was down there the other week, not as bad as people make out.

Moved from Islington to Stevenage grew up in Archer Road Pin Green. The shops King Pin pub and community centre was still being built. Webb Rise and on to st nick’s didn’t exist. Fairlands valley Lakes was a farm. Moved away in 87 was shocked on one visit back to see the shops gone as well as my first local the old Pin had some good times in there late 70s early 80s. Best thing as a kid was the cycle paths playing for Fairland Youth FC happy days
