That Barn has beautiful architecture and a beautiful profile. You could probably see portraits of it. I know I would want one. Lets hope pray the barn gets a restoration. Not likely at the cost of lumber these days with the communist and thief warmonger in office..
I grew up in Mooresville. Rode past that barn every day on the school bus. They actually added some dormers for filming, and the skylights as well.. I remember my father coming home from work and saying "they just put dormers up on that batn on Hwy 150". I think someone said they're filming a Tom Cruise movie.. Still live in the area. Thanks for the stroll.
I did as well and still do everyday. Still live in Mooresville
I'm visiting Mooresville in a few weeks. Spending 1 day. Give me a few hot spots or must see thanks!
@@carter4289 The NASCAR museum is cool. It's right near the barn property as well.
That opening scene is spectacular. So cool that all those scenes were actually filmed there.
Bike riding to movies...those were the days! ☺☺
Some of the Interior shots were shot in a warehouse in Ormond Beach. We needed to do some pick up shots of the # 46 City Chevrolet car. That's the shot with all the Cleco Fasteners in it. We used that same warehouse to do the "Japanese Inspection" NASCAR Office scene with Fred Thompson. In Darlington, we used an abandoned school gymnasium to film the scenes inside the hauler.
Wait. Who are you again?
Wow this is crazy info. Thanks!
I went to NTI up there back in 2007. I regularly passed by the barn on my way home. I knew it was from Days of Thunder, but didn’t know how it was all filmed. Thanks for putting it all together!
I live south of Charlotte in SC and in the summer of 2015 I rode my motorcycle up to the barn. It was in much better shape than it is now!! Most of the boards on the front and sides were still intact. Great video!!!
I feel the passion dude, I was 2 or 3 when the movie came out and my dad turned me on to it by the time i was 10.
Just visited the barn literally yesterday and my love for the movie is now at an all time high. So cool to see it
I was there 2019. Down the street next to the barn there is a Nascar museum. The old lady inside told me also that they filmed there at night with huge lights. And Tom had a (house/rental room) across the street where he was sleeping.
Very good video. I enjoyed a lot. To add to this, the Thunder Barn is just outside of Mooresville. The summer after the movie was released, my family was on vacation in the Charlotte area and we visited several of the race shops. The receptionist at Bahari Racing told us about the Thunder Barn being just down the road and she told us that she was invited there when they were filming and got to meet Tom Cruise.
Nice video, I saw the other one and it had the link so I went back and clicked this after watching and this was a great video too. As for the very end, it’s sad to see people contributing to the destruction of the barn, I really wish one of us wins the lottery and we can fix the barn up to its former glory. Heck I’d move down there and work as a restoration guy, I just imagine the barn could be so much more, at bare minimum a gift shop but in its most noble calling it could be a garage again that gives back to the community, teaches a new generation how to fall in love with racing like we all did back in the day
Cinder blox around 2/3 in.. uh oh😂 Lucy you have some splainin to do😂
Great job on the video, I really enjoyed it... thanks. I rode my bicycle to watch it too to the movie theater at my local mall.
Days of Thunder! 🤘😎🤘
Nice job and clean Beretta man. Subscribed.
Unreal how many house and stuff been built around the barn. And it's a historical site and they just letting it rot. Back when I was a kid. (When this movie was filmed there.) That barn was way out in the country. Now it barely across town.
I live in north Charlotte, so I know exactly what you're talking about. The whole area around Lake Norman. BTW, same with Southfork Ranch from Dallas. When I went there in the mid-90's, it was way out in the country, in the middle of nowhere. Went back in 2017, with my wife. Now the property is surrounded by suburban neighborhoods.
Same story all over the country my guy
@@fosterfuchs back in the mid 90s tonnes of people from New York was moving in to LKN. They would always talk about how much better it was up there. I always asked if they needed help packing their shit back up to go back up there.
No one ever took me up on it. They ruined this area. I moved up to Alexander county. And it about time to go farther up in the mountains again...
I was there in April.
Was working on lake Newman at the time. Drove right by this barn, several times, literally right off the side of the road now. I’ve said it ever since I got back. That that area has more construction, more new homes, more apartment complexes being built then anywhere I have ever seen or been in my life. It was crazy at the amount of construction going on. It’s only a matter of time until the barn falls down.
Was cool to see, glad I got to.
@@JeremyWilson-vu2pw it's a historical site. So it can't be. But they can let it fall in.
It’s ok we loved the dukes of hazzard I’ll say it yeeeeeehaaaaaa
Superb video and really well thought out and presented. Thank you for putting it together and for sharing it with fellow Days of Thunder fans.
Check out the rest of the days of thunder content here on the channel and thank you!
Amazing video and great catch on those details. North of Toronto you will see many barns like that one, and also see how time has not been their friend. One day those parts of history will collapse and be no more ☹
Come SW of TO and you'll see way more barns. Way older as well.
@@xtr3m3fLx Great point and vey true.
I'm surprised that no one demolished it. I don't really remember seeing the movie. I might've had when I was a little boy but I don't know, I don't have a good memory. It would be awesome to see a Days of Thunder sequel but Hollyweird and the social climate is different today than it was back in 1990.
Sad to see a beautiful ol barn like that fell into disrepair. 😢
Great video. The movie opened on a Wednesday night and I saw it that night. I saw it once more while it was in the theater. Just a couple observations. I'm pretty sure the blue fastback in front of the barn is actually a Pontiac Grand Prix rather than a Monte SS. They were very similar but the back glass has a little different shape. The "shoebox" car you point out could be another GM brand (Olds, Pontiac, etc) besides a Chevy. in the Scene where Cole walks in from outside you can see that its a 4 door sedan by the roof pillars. So it may not have been a race car. I'd like to know more about the history of the barn. I tried to research it but couldn't find much. I read somewhere that the property had belonged to Harry Hyde and Rick Hendrick bought it from him. So possibly it was owned by Hendrick when the movie was filmed. I couldn't find any confirmation of that. I also read that the barn was near a house that Hendrick owned. And I also read that Hendrick bought the property where his race shops are from Hyde. So maybe Hyde didn't have any connection to the barn? But did it belong to someone connected to racing? Were the old race cars already there, or did they put them there for filming?
I drive by there at least once or twice a week. So much nostalgia!!! Great video.
I wished I could! thanks for watching!
I grew up in a Ford family and am still a Ford guy…the Days of Thunder tshirt in your other video was the first Chevy tshirt I ever had lol
The house was filmed up in the mountains of North Carolina. Notice the mountains around the house as the car is pulling up? Notice there are no mountains when the car drives up to the barn in the next scene? It's 2 separate regions of North Carolina.
This is he barn from the movie. The barn is in Mooresville NC and is still there. It’s my home town I drive past it every day
The house is probably 30 minutes away just north of Union Grove, NC.
Such a great video, good job.
I wish ppl would come together and restore the barn to movie standards so sad to see it fall apart over years ..
That Beretta is smoking!!!!
Love that movie. Never gets old. Classic ❤
Michael Rooker didn’t share your level of enthusiasm 😂
At least he held the box. Carey Elwes wouldnt hold the box
Yeah i remember when this movie came out and also the one and only time that I went to Disney in Florida as a kid they had a super cool Days of Thunder ride that basically just was hydraulic seats in a movie theater and you felt like you were in the cars and in the race it was the coolest thing ever back then lol not sure if that ride is still there but i doubt it...
What really confirms it is the wall of windows is made up of alternating round post and 2x8ish uprights used to hold up the roof minute 5:44 You can see them clear as day in the movie clip you provided. Sad to see how neglected it has become but at least it still stands.
I never thought that this would be open to the public. Makes me wish I would have stopped on the way to Hilton Head at least once.
that beretta is in nice shape
Nice Beretta! I worked at a Chevrolet dealership back in the day, and came really close to buying a yellow pace Beretta when they first came out
they have become quite valuable over the last few years. I have one but its rough waiting restoration. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Awesome Beretta too!
Thanks for watching!
Love the beretta. You dont see them around anymore. I had one. Not sure what year it was. Nice car. Especially for the 90s.
Great job on the video. Days of thunder is one of my favorite tom cruise movies.
I had a red 89 beretta gtu . I miss that car, wish they made them with more horsepower.
I hear of days of thunder of course.....I want to watch Gran Turismo when it is at all possible.
I lovee that movie, i love the pace car scene, the barn scene with the old cars, I can spot a MC SS Aerocpoupe (puke lol) every time.
Thanks for this video! Awesome job!
You mentioned that the house is now torn down. I've always assumed it was two different locations using camera angles and the transition from one shot to the next to give the illusion that the house and barn were the same property. I've studied that shot from the movie, is that the barn located behind the house? I can't quite tell. It looks different in the shot that shows the house.
You're not wrong in wondering that. I've gotten conflicting reports about it being two different locations so I cant confirm either way. I plan on making another trip up there soon, maybe some of the locals would know
I lost my Gargoyles from the 90s. I wanted to be like Dale too. Crazy no one called out the iconic glasses.
This is great.. Love it
Love the movie its a favorite love the chevy beretta too
My grandfather took me several times to see the matinee Days of Thunder
That’s a pretty sweet Chevy burrito
Maybe Dale Jr can be convinced to save the barn and bring it back to its former glory? Your final thoughts are spot on either way!
Unfortunately he wont
Nice work.
Theres another shop near there where filming was done, and the cars are still sitting there as well. (Not public)
And there was a scene when Cole shows up on his Harley ….. 😉😉
For some reason that Beretta is my favorite car ever. if only it could have came with a sbc and rwd
I've always wanted to make a rear wheel conversion to a Beretta and somehow stuff a small block in it... I think they looked cooler than the Lumina Z34's...
Hell yes
Is that a beretta ? Sweet 😎
Thank you
Omg a Beretta, I miss mine so much
The scenes of the car inside the barn were filmed in a building in downtown Charlotte. I installed the lift that the car is rotating on. The building burned down about a year after filming was completed
First time I've heard that could believe that being how slick the concrete on the floor is and how open the building seems
The building actually had a wooden floor and we cut a 3x3 square hole in it then dug a hole for the single post lift without a safety leg so they could rotate the car on it. I’m not sure if they put anything on the floor to make it look like concrete because I was not the tech who pulled the lift back out of the building
That’s why memories disappear people destroying them with town houses, condos and other stuff nobody cares for historical stuff they call it junk or something like that.
Amen brotha!!
I was 11 and became an Earnhardt fan when it came out.
I heard the barn was torn down and is now a gas station of some sort for another RUclipsr I’m not exactly sure if that’s true. It was just something that I saw online many years ago.
Certainly not true
Awwww man. It would be nice for it to be restored
Just love the movie😍👏🔥🇧🇻
There was a pack of odd ball collector picture cards I picked up many years ago that shows Randy Quaid with TC & maybe a producer or camera guy sitting in chairs back near a pond drinking bottled Molson Beer.. I am actually now gonna looking for that stuff not having much to do today. There was a question too about a picture that appears there's a gaggle of the movie crew and TC at an I Hop somewhere. I also have 2 complete sets of the Tops cards 2 more incomplete sets and one complete set of the odd ball cards and one incomplete set. The owner of the shop where I was getting the stuff passed away during those days when we were buying the stuff... My late wife and I would go there every pay day we bought stuff and other things like I have a Rare John Force Bed blanket A queen size blanket. I also have the Kenny Bernstein Blanket that the guy sold there. These are thick high quality cotton blankets not them cheap Chicom Comforters they sold off them trailers at the race events. The third blanket people have offered me over 5K for is the Bernstein Barrier Blanket. It has his autograph on it a picture the car on it and the date and time Bernstein broke the 300mph Barrier. In my office is a pictured on my wall of Shirley Muldowny with her arms around Don Prudome at Race Way Park. I am told the picture was taken by Ian Mier. The picture has has his studio water mark in the corner with IM Studios Calif as well. Yes this nostalgia interests the hell out of ppl. Everyone wishes they could relive them years of their lives over. Best days of my life attending NASCAR races before NASCAR turned into the smelly politically correct cesspool it is today. At least the NHRA hasn't become a polluted septic tank..
cool video, what music did you use?
Should be in the description
The big back window g body looks like the 2+2 Grand Prix
Bretta want to be!! Disrespect. Love a bretta
After seeing someone resuced one of the days of thunders cars... the barn... I need a fully interactive Days of Thunder game. (Videogame)
I need it. PS5 is lacking. Imagine the vintage tracks, fictional drivers finally fleshed out. Ugh.
Just because you found a row of wall openings and a oncrete floor doesn't mean "the scene was absolutely filmed here." We all know that film studios can recreate any space for filming. In the dimly lit "car building scene" you can see light reflecting off the floor. You ASSUME it's a concrete floor and head down a path in search of evidence to support your presupposition. The floor in one of the scenes looks pretty reflective. Doesnt loom like a concrete barn floor. Keep in mind that it is not uncommon for studios to film scenes on location then reshoot in a studio to obtain the details desired. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying that if the product team felt it was import to film those scenes on location, they would have wanted the rustic wood floor as part of the aesthetic. The perfectly flat studio floor that you see in the scene is likely intended to reflect light to give the scene a better effect. I know fans want to believe that the scenes were filmed in the barn because it makes the story seem more real, but most of the movie magic requires studio sets to create. Embrace the reality because the final product is better than if they had tried to film it in the barn (for no reason). The actual fil 6:47 m locations are on file with the studio.😮
Well then if there all on file bust out the files n let this guy know if he's rite or not because I think he has figured out some really good details...and just sayn if the poured the concrete in the bard to film it would be Farley fresh concrete which also would reflect lite if polished finish or had a sealer on it so there goes ur reflecting lite mishap just sayn
@@jeffchevalier146 Believe what you want Jeff....no one really cares. You're wrong about the concrete though....just say'n
Scott on Tape did a video six months ago, showing those scenes were filmed in the side of the barn with the concrete. You missed showing the hardware from the shop lights that were still hanging there from the filming.
you mean that guy who looks like the bully out of the Doug cartoon? yea it was brought to my attention a bit ago that I wasnt the first to make a video on it. Regardless I think most will agree my production value is way higher.
If I had enough money I would buy and restore this barn.
I thought they tore that down. It’s in Mooresville right?
yes it is
i guess it wldnt be as much fun to simply contact sumone involved?
Best daggum movie ever made an if ya say diffrent thems fightin words ….
You have the last drivable chevy Beretta
all 5 of my Berettas are driveable!
Where you get the city Chevrolet shirt? Nice shirt
Its available at hendrickmotorsport website
I heard the house and bran was owned by Rick how true is this
The tractor painting scene has skylights in the roof and the roof is much lower. Again, could have been recreated in the barn just like in a studio, but why? It would have been far easier to recreate a space in Hollywood
The sunlights were cut into the barn specifically for the movie. You can see both inside the barn and the exterior pics where they were patched back up. I have since found out that the barn had no power until the shoot either, and that the powerunit sticking out of the ground between the barn and the small building was put there for power during filming. I have also since learned that in someone elses video they found the mounting for light rigging inside the barn as well.
nice beretta
So here’s a question. You owns the barn? Are there any plans to save the barn?
At 10:13 was that pile of block with the graffiti edited in or did you just miss that lol
Oh geezus I missed that! yikes!
NOT AN 86 MONTE CARLO AERO COUPE; IT'S AN 86 PONTIAC 2+2 AERO COUPE REAR WINDOWS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT / I OWN BOTH
👍
Turn around and show the auto parts store. That barn is in a neighborhood now.
the store is gone, building and all
there were two exterior scenes
Amazing video. Earned a follow from me. Now go get your own car. Let's see how you do in a crowd ;).
I know where the tractor is.
The car in the background of the scene (where Tom Cruise walks in) doesnt prove anything. Film teams have people who specialize in scene continuity. It doesn't "solidify the fact that it was filmed on location." It's possible but far from being indisputable evidence.
Like the 1000.000.0.00 guys before you why..
why
dont
you
just
ask
tom cruise
or
robert duval
or anya other LIVING PERSON!
you know, it never dawned on me to utilize my personal relationship with Tom or Robert, seeing I have their phone numbers in my contacts, that would have been so much easier! you are a genius!
That house in the establishing shot is nowhere near Mooresville obviously, there are no mountains close by so “Harry’s house” was never anywhere near the barn. And not sure why you keep calling it a cement floor. Cement is an ingredient in concrete. Cement is a dry powder. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the view
Bro, the pallet of cinder blocks man. Get a tarp or something. Edit that out, please 🤦🏼♂️
Smh.
You lost me at jr.
Who cares!? I sure don't
Thanks for the view...
But you do care enough to tell us you don't care......let me guess, single, and unemployed lol
If I could make one suggestion. I would contact the local county (I'm guessing Cabarrus County?) and the State Historical Society. I don't see why restorative efforts and historic site protections haven't been put on that barn. You could probably protect that site from the sprawl, and have preservative work done to the basic structure to make sure it lasts for years to come. They had enough to restore a whole track, why not one famous barn?
I'm a bit far away for that
10:13 I'm just so offended by what somebody spray painted on the concrete blocks!! I had to go to my safe space for 2 hours and hang out with my stuffed unicorns and rainbow flags and drink like 5 soy pumpkin spice lates!!
I was there and didnt even notice it. I was offended they were even there so I couldnt stand where they actually built the car
