I always knew Aubrey plaza reminded me of someone, I never realized it was Daria until now
yeah ... I just made the connection 5 minutes ago and had to search straight away to see if anyone else mentioned it anywhere ... wasn't expecting the hit to be as completely on target as this skit

Because Daria was based on intelligent satire, which could now be demonized as dangerous thought, and we can't have that. Her satire would have to be completely political and feminist. There would be no point for it to be on Netflix unless it's to push an agenda. Every other show is like that, no point in adding another.

Didn't you notice her mom and her other siblings though? Jane and Trent just have dark hair. Plenty of white people have dark hair, like Catherine Zeta Jones... Although, the inspiration for Trent is partially based on Dave Navarro, they call their house Casa Lane, and their other family members are always going to Latin America, so it's possible they're part Latino.

@Apollo Macgregor Seriously. I just went through the series and Quin does admit that Daria's her sister. Daria's jacket has a zipper, not buttons like here. Kevin wasn't class of 2002 since he didn't graduate. And I can't imagine Trent getting fat since you almost never see him eat anything and he rarely has money (I also figure he has that cough because he spends his money on cigs when he's not mooching them from someone).
Daria was the only one who would fit in a proper film version. Honestly, I would prefer the original writers and creators to be involved in the film. Otherwise it would suck.

Jodie Landon was the Valedictorian. Daria's graduation speech was for a different award. She won the Diane Fossey Award "for dazzling academic achievement in the face of near total misanthropy". This was great casting, but you owe Jodie an apology!

Aubrey Plaza would have been a perfect casting if they’d actually made this into a full movie. Wish it had happened. I’d have watched it! Daria is amazing!
Every comment about the shitty casting is exactly what makes this such a sick sad world; this trailer was pretty much perfect. Who cares who plays the characters, the spirit of the show was still there. A lot of thought and attention was given to this trailer. And Aubrey Plaza was born to play this role. I agree with sawrig: in today's world Daria, or a character like Daria, who sees through this materialistic world and questions it, is more important than ever. I mean, what is more proof than the fact that while MTV once aired such a cynical viewpoint of society, it would now never touch a show like this with a 100 metre pole these days? Instead it chooses to air trash tv and commercial hits. What has happened to the alternative in society? Now we label it "Hipster" and deride it---with much merit, granted---but still where is that viewpoint in the mass media? It's something that is drastically needed.

There are a few errors to point out in this trailer:
Jodi, Upchuck, Mac and the fashion club were all missing
Jodi was actually the valedictorian, not Daria
Quinn was a soft more when Daria graduated so she shouldn't be planning the reunion
Kevin was left back so this wouldn't be his reunion either
The acting was a bit stale in my opinion and they could've found people who looked more like the original cast. ESPECIALLY TRENT
Overall though a Daria movie would be a great idea, if had they got their facts right and stayed true to the original. But I guess we can always hope for a 20 year reunion right?

+Vincent Muzic my complaint with this is that they've all changed exactly ZERO since the last ep, or that's what this tried to show. maybe it's just me but i think that daria's snark would have grown, evolved, and matured into an even more amazing weapon throughout college and beyond, so this is a serious letdown in that regard. Jane made perfect sense, but she was given just a few seconds of screen time so meh. Quinn was fucking perfect, though as other people have pointed out, she wouldn't actually be involved in the planning. egging daria into going sure but not planning it.

What I find ironic about this video is that it perfectly demonstrates why a Daria reboot wouldn’t work. The whole point of the show is that people change and that we adopt personas and dispositions over the course of our lives to best suit her environments and how those change too. Daria in the show straight up says to Jodi “I’m too smart and too sensitive for the world I’m living in now. Who I am works for me and maybe one day I’ll find something that works better”. If they made a Daria movie or a new show the studio would want all the characters to behave the exact way they did when they were 16, except they’re grownup now. That very notion is antithetical to what made Daria great.

I don't have any particular investment in there being a live action adaptation of Daria. I didn't get to see much of the show because I had really inconsistent access to cable when it was airing. But from what I've seen of the original show, Aubrey Plaza is absolutely perfect to play the title character. If they ever do a live action Daria, they'd better move it enough years beyond high school that Plaza can still convincingly play the character.

I'm a Green Xer. This trailer is legit...even though it's not but it gave me those feels again, like Daria never left. If you're gonna do it for real, you gotta get Janine Garafolo to make a cameo. Remember when she ghosted the Daria Marathon just to be able to tell the world The character wasn't based on her and she, like for real, wasn't the voice actress? If you can get MTV to take a stab, Barbie movies style, I'll be there opening day.

truth be told Daria would be a total different person from high to now. Even comparing 1 season to the last season her character changed and also the last episode showed that she was in college and happy and even have a new boyfriend. She will most likely grow up to be kind of like her aunt.
I was thinking the exact same thing watching this. Her aunt was awesome. Plus I like Daria's character but I wouldn't her to be exactly the same way 10 years down the road,

I agree with that. Honestly theres a lot of little mistakes here that makes me think this person hasnt seen the show since the early 2000s. Also they left out the real valedictorian and her boyfriend, Jodie and Mack. Best this doesnt become a movie lol just watch Ghost World and read the graphic novel

It would be super Hilarious if adult Beavis & Butthead were both totally normal and successful adults and Daria would just be so pissed & envious they were able to change and have a good life while she stayed mostly the same.

The ending of Is It College Yet? implies that she and Jane came out of their shells and became morning TV presenters. As much as I want to say it was a joke, too many of the other character futures displayed in those credits were too realistic :P

DoomedTVN I haven't seen the video yet, so I can't comment on it, but I do know that sometimes College Humor completely misses when it comes to impressions. Granted, I think Aubrey Plaza would make the perfect actress for Daria, but I can still see how it's possible this could go wrong.
I mean, their Magic School Bus video was popular because it was about anti-vaccinations, but Ms. Frizzle behaved NOTHING like Ms. Frizzle - not even in a 'different because it's a parody' sort of way.
+DoomedTVN Well, Daria wasn't very charming, and her humor was sarcastic and deadpan, so they seemed to have portrayed them well in my opinion. I used to watch Daria religiously while growing up. It was one of my favorite cartoons.
This actually would be a good idea using Aubrey Plaza and no one else in the trailer, obviously. I mean I've seen every episode of Daria so much I have them all memorized, and I just couldn't picture Quinn being anything like that girl, or Brittany, Tom, Trent, etc. I'd rather see Kat Dennings as Jane, Ezra Miller as Trent, and Molly C. Quinn as Quinn (haha! But really, she's perfect). Then I'd be down for a Kickstarter on this!
