Daria is one of the smartest, most well-written and witty TV series ever made, it's surprising that it's origins come from Beavis and Butthead!
* My favorite episode was when visiting alumnus Tommy Sherman insulted Daria and instead of being offended she told him what a loser he was. Then the cocky ex-high school jock gets killed by a falling goal post named after him. ☺

The STUPIDEST characters ever
In hindsight, Daria was a pretty risky show: They made multiple criticisms against the media that MTV was actively part of in terms of preying on the angst of teens for profit and trying to cash in on fashion and trends. It was an insightful, misfit show compared to the rest of MTV - as though the show itself WAS Daria.

imagine Netflix brought back Daria
As someone born in the 2000's who is currently watching the series online. I fell like that's probably a good idea because the show could attract a larger fan-base in the modern world as well as have updated references. They'd probably have to change Quinn's character a bit though. I would love it if they did.

I binge watched Daria the week that I went into high school, and because of it, my outlook was completely warped lol. I hated everyone and totally felt like Daria. And it was crazy, because the show had ended nearly a decade ago, and high school was still the same! That's the power of that show. Just about anyone can relate to Daria. Great show, something I watch frequently. :)
I was in the first grade when I first watched it because 1: I slightly resemble Daria minus the glasses and 2: I wanted to marry Trent(hey, little girls haven't fully developed their tastes for good husbands yet). Lol

Well, it has been awhile. I forgot they had any Asian charectors. Even if she wasn't a main one. The name Trent does make me think of Trent reznor, that's hilarious. But was Trent the cartoon, supposed to be a jock ( kind of like his side just bc he didn't want to stay at home...) & He was in some band he was passionate about or some ish... 🤔 Hmmm.
I just saw a daria mask on Amazon. It just made me realize that Daria has been socially distancing since she was born. If only we saw the signs sooner.

I actually recently discovered the series and binge-watched my way up to most of Season 5 now. It's been such an incredible display of the hilarity of wit and satire. It's a shame that it's so horribly under-rated.

We literally just finished it, and I'm really satisfied (it had a good ending) but really disappointed (we *finished* the show) at the same time. We've been re-watching it.
Shame you didn't elaborate on the music rights. That would have been good for a fact or two. Especially for those young whippersnappers who never heard of Napster, Kazaa or Prodigy.
There was a time when the music industry wanted their music played as often as possible. And on MTV, the more often your song played or your video aired, the better. In those ancient days, when MTV got permission to play a song, it could show up anywhere. Beavis & Butthead, Remote Control, Headbander's Ball, Yo MTV Raps, or in a little corner during a wet T-shirt contest in Cancun. As a result, Daria had a great soundtrack when it first aired, but by the time it got a DVD treatment, that landscape had changed. Maybe another time.

Daria was great. I was in high school from 1997 to 2001 and even though the show was animated it seemed to capture what it was really like in ways other shows never did. MTV sure dragged their ass issuing it on DVD... :\

I felt like Daria was a character who NEEDED to be invented, as I knew SO many girls in high school and college who reminded me of Daria, just as many adults I knew who reminded me of Ned Flanders
Daria's crush was very cute, I'm glad it never showed Trent really reciprocating anything and just treating her the same way he did his sister (Getting protective and worrying when she and Jane were lost during that one really bad storm alongside Daria's dad. Hugging both her and Jane when he saw they were safe. It was very endearing). It's very normal for a young girls to gain unreasonable crushes and eventually get over them. I liked that about the show, Daria was just a normal girl.

My husband often said that he'd get cable if "Sick, Sad World" became a real show. We loved Daria.
I think everyone wanted it to become real. MTV would've probably kept going crazy with cartoons if they made it a reality. Nobody would've been able to turn the tv off between Daria and Sick Sad World.

Daria was one of the shows that helped me through the lowest point in my life: middle school. Daria helped me through 7th and 8th grade the same way Hollywood cinema helped America through the Great Depression and World War II.
Thanks for making this! I'm a 90s kid, and I never watched this for some reason. Been a bit bummed about society and jobs recently, so I think watching a show that ridicules these things will do me good :)

because i'm a 90s kid too. born may 93. it was meant for the "90s kids" that were teens during the 90s - meaning born in the (probably late) 80s.
I really did love that show. The alter egos at the end were always my favorite and I wonder if that was an influence on the endings of Good Luck Charlie. I recall people complaining because they were going to make a spin off from Beavis and Butt-head and that meant the channel was getting further from music. Worked out pretty good though. Unlike what passes for the MTV now.

***** I hear you, but I think Helga is different enough to get her own show. She is sarcastic like Daria, but she also has a passionate side that is worth exploring. Her dynamic with Arnold and Phoebe are different. Arnold reciprocates her feelings in The Jungle Movie then leaves to be with his parents. This situation would be interested to watch play out to see how much Helga grows as a character without Arnold. And Phoebe is nothing like Jane, she is submissive to Helga, but I can see her grow and help Helga more during this difficult time of discovering who she is without Arnold. These are just my thoughts on how the series could play out and I appreciate the reply.
