Same. I freaked when I saw the car she drove as an adult. I didn’t realize it was a Triumph Spitfire when I was a teen. I just assumed it was some generic convertible. In my 20s, I ended up buying a 1967 Triumph GT6. It’s the fastback version of her car, only it has 6 cylinders instead of four. The DVD box set of Daria was released a few months later. It was then when I discovered what she really drove. Everyone else my age now would drive some boring white or black SUV/crossover, and anyone else who didn’t clearly must be “weird.”

The strange this is, Daria and Amy are only out of place because they're the only ones not getting needlessly competitive at what should be an occasion for not settling old scores. Out of everyone there, they are the most well adjusted - well Daria certainly is. I feel that Amy, despite having much the same outlook as Daria, still feels like she is putting on the impression that she doesn't care, because she does realise all the in-fighting is pointless, but it's clear it's become a defence mechanism for how she really feels. Daria doesn't feel the need to compete, thus she acts apathetic, because she's not going to put on a mask to disguise how she really feels, but with Amy, I feel that the apathetic display is a mask. Amy may sound like Daria, but you can tell that she is still emotionally vulnerable, because even after 30 years, she is still hurt over how her sisters fought and whilst neither came out the winner, she was definitely the loser in how all the focus was on them.
There is definitely a lot of her in Daria, but I'd say it's mostly in how she looks - Daria takes more after her mother in terms of intelligence. Daria's deadpan demeanour comes from wanted to be open and genuine about how she feels in a world with people obsessed with competing and how she has no time for that, Amy's comes from hiding how her true resentment in a world where the overly competitive nature of her sisters actually consumed her life, and she wants it to not hurt as much.

Reverend Stroup: “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join Junichiro and Amy in the bonds of Holy Matrimony.
Now, do you Junichiro, take thee Amy to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love, honor, obey, cherish, and cling only unto her for so long as you both shall live? For better or worse? For richer or poorer? In sickness and in health, til death do you part?”
    Junichiro: “I do!”
Reverend Stroup: “Do you Amy, take thee Junichiro to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love, honor, obey, cherish, and cling only unto him in forsaking all others for so long as you both shall live? For better or worse? For richer or poorer? In sickness and in health, til death do you part?”
    Amy: “I do!”
Reverend Stroup: “Junichiro, I want you to place the ring on the third finger of Amy’s left hand, and repeat after me, ‘With this ring, I thee wed’.”
Junichiro: (placing the ring on Amy’s finger) “With this ring, I thee wed.”
Reverend Stroup: “Amy, I want you to place the other ring on the third finger of Junichiro’s left hand, and repeat after me, ‘With this ring, I too thee wed’.”
Amy: (following the procedure) “With this ring, I too thee wed.”
Reverend Stroup: (glancing through the guests) “If there be anyone here who does not want to see them joined in marriage, let them speak now, or else, hereafter and forever, hold their peace?”
    Silence hovers all about.
Reverend Stroup: (resuming) “By the power, vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Junichiro and Amy kiss to seal their wedding vows.
Reverend Stroup: “Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Mr. & Mrs. Junichiro Hill!”
    Hank: “Yep!”
    Peggy: “It is good.”
Jake: “At least now I have a proper brother-in-law to visit with on a regular basis.”
Helen: (crying 😢) “I can hardly believe that my baby sister is now married.”

I want to like Daria the show but its too bland and redundant. The character daria was a calling card for so many 90s chicks that were different and didnt quite fit in but the show is unexciting and dry. Im at a point now where i dont need the "i relate to daria" cred and it just makes me depressed. There are other 90s cartoons with alternative characters that are more lively than this one. I respect those who still enjoy it but for me, it doesnt do anything for me watching it back except dry me out. I wish there was more to it than the smart stoic girl condescends everyone and cant be bothered to muster joy over anything. Its just...juvenile. if she was really depressed she would eventually see that everthing rides on her making life enjoyable while she can. Her persoective could only exist in an environment of priveledge and allowance, which she seems to take for granted. None of the characters ever learn how to be "deeper" or think more critically from her. She just misses out on on life and joy and pleasure.
