Cool Tech: if you hold attack while plunging and swap characters right as the plunge lands (without letting go of attack), the new character will heavy attack without charging
Responding to the comment at 7:40, there is a "training mode" or target practice in WuWa. There is a flower field at coordinates -962,1099,69 just West/South-West of Loong's Gaze Suburbs, which is West of Jinzhou. You talk to the NPC named Hua Lielang there to spar with him. He cannot, however, be knocked into the air.

An easy beginner tech is to jump in the air with Jiyan, do an air attack and the switch to a ranged character (Jiyan will continue to do the attack), basic attack in the air with the ranged character around 4 times, then switch back to Jiyan (you should still be in the air) and air attack a second time. This works because Jiyan gains height when he air attacks, and moves to the enemy instead of falling straight down, and ranged characters cause you to fall slower when they air attack. As far as I can tell, this isn't infinite.

0:25 Looks like a true combo and a amazing way to juggle.Launchers into Dmg , Jinyan/ Dragon Man then to keep the combo going. Mortfi use his guns to juggling the enemy not allow the enemy to attack while adding more dmg.
Basically there´s a lot of animation cancels you can do that allow you to quickly swap between characters and they will stay on field a bit to complete their attacks.

Amazing video, thank you for this and introducing me to more FGC terms. I just learned about notation the other day. Didn’t know these things had names, up until now it’s just been all s and animation canceling to me. Instantly subbed, can’t wait for more! as someone who played Videl in dbfz for a long time, im excited to see how far we can push this games combat. I didnt even think to try tech like what i saw in this video and it just makes me hopeful for future characters so we can try more combos
Negative edge sounds like input buffering in League. You play a ranged a character, you click on the enemy first when you are out of range and then Flash after so that the game does the auto immediately when its in range
As a not a fighting game player I actually noticed this kept happening when I switched from Jiyan to Rover and I just always assumed there was a mechanic I wasn't aware of and I told myself I'd read into it later but this is probably what was happening and it's amazing to finally understand that.
First vid I've seen from you, easy sub. Very cool to get a perspective on this game from someone that is used to more technical combat. Most Wuwa videos are just from general gacha creators on resource optimization, this is actual fresh tech from what I've seen. Good stuff man
Cancels and juggle states are really important in fighting game and games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, I had the feeling we could do this unfortunately i'm not skilled enough and my ping is horrible to go that far but i'm glad you confirmed WuWa's combat system allow deep mechanics like that. Like in fighting game routing that deals the biggest damages doesn't necessarily lead to victory but routing that give you an advantage or prevent your opponent from being able to act does
I gotta say this is some amazing tech that has a lot of potential to be implemented in the highest form of gameplay when it comes to lategame content. However, as amazing as this is, when you’re explaining the benefits of this tech, sure this would be actually worth practicing if there was pvp where any kind of edge you could get mattered, but this is pve. It can still be useful in pve and some people (including myself) would want to practice and use it, but before i take my time to, we gotta see an actual proof of concept that this will actually be more helpful than it is a hindrance. Its a lot of moving parts, but if u can prove that this is going to actually help players avoid needing to dodge and parry and provide an effective alternative to dealing with bosses.
I figured this out with Rover the other day. I was able to do the combo that launches them and then I pressed the dash button and it did the same thing. My friend's were like, "How are you stun locking them like that??" I didn't know it was a big deal. XD
This is really interesting and I'll be looking forward to learning more about it as you keep sharing your findings. I do wonder if it'll be feasible on mobile, since holding down attack while pressing jump (as an example) is not exactly easy to do. Perhaps if they let us customize the button layout (if this setting exists then I haven't looked well enough since I haven't needed it so far) it'll help out with any crazy combos you guys come up with.
Also you can animation cancel a lot in this game and I’ve never heard anyone talk about it. I’m a lol player and instantly tried it and on calcharo it works really well.
I love you bro, but realistically this isn’t going to change much. BotW also had a bunch of crazy ass combat, but it was so impractical to pull off compared to the usual gameplay loop. As a result. No one used it. There are a few situations where I see this being useful. Later Tower adversity elite enemies, and specific air time based modifiers to be specific. However. This won’t work on bosses due to their inability to be juggled. So many players won’t bother trying. Additionally, the lack of training mode makes these techniques impractical to learn with enemies in the over world having pathetically small health pools. I’m speaking from experience as I was made aware of this tech about 4 days ago from some random tiktok my friend sent me. Since then I’ve figured out one with YangYang, Jiyan and Lingyang, but I’ve never had any reason to use it beyond stylistic flare and boredom.
Well there is a pseudo training mode when you do the tutorials for the characters. After clearing it you can just wail on enemies all you want to practice tech. Although it'll be solo. This tech has pretty high potential to be practical because the animation cancelling can allow you to dish out more damage faster. It's not just about juggles. Just as an example, Mortefi's ult allows another unit to do more damage with heavy attacks than normal ones. If Jiyan can rapid-fire heavies you can do even more damage than usual outside of his ult. I'm sure there'll be many more examples since the game just came out. Tech like this usually adds a ton of flexibility once the right people get a handle on the mechanics. It's like that with fighting games too.
This brings me back to Tekken days when I had to play a character over and over learning sound and visual queues along with the combos. Can't wait to see what else people can find in this game. I just hope that developers don't say that they are not part of the game mechanics and remove the ability to do them.
Dodging, parrying cancelling animation etc is too much fun . I am new to this type of combat system cuz i never played fighting games but damn the satisfaction is real. I am addicted.
I don't see anyone really talk about it, but you can dash-cancel parries, allowing you to try the hit while still getting the dodge to be safe. I'm not a fighting game player so I don't know the implications of this
So cool! thanks for the tips! It would be great and cool if you can have another camera at your controller to show us how detail on these skills. This helps so much on my gameplay dude! Thanks a bunch!
I need full on tech and combo guides for each character you figure out. I’d much prefer to implement higher skill ceiling gameplay over button mashing for optimal rotations
I think this is extremely cool if one is going for style points here and there but I don’t think this is gonna affect meta much. Those mechanics only work with small mobs even though most end game content revolves around bosses that are too big to be juggled like that. Even if there are a lot of small mobs I think it would still be more effective to crowd control rather than focus on individual enemies. I may be wrong though
I was about to say the same, its cool to launch enemy once or twice or in a intense fight , I don't see it helping. And yes many animations can be cancelled to next character or echo moves
Swap cancelling already makes Havoc Rover and Sanhua way more potent, and while solo onfield Danjin still is stronger it serves as a method of both skill expression and allowing skilled players to make up for the gap in raw power. All in all, these mechanics are still a gamechanger for people who *don't* want to just operate on the strongest, most meta units. They don't have to if they're good, if they know what they're doing. More tools for skill expression is never a bad thing
More on Sanhua, her negative edge done correctly makes her take practically zero field time to deal all of her damage- Jiyan is only one application of this, but lateral thinking leads to applications of these concepts to other characters. That's the main point of the video, not showing what Jiyan alone can do, but what the fact that Jiyan can do this means for the game's skill ceiling as a whole
dps wise, switch cancelling gave me the dps to do lv 80 monkey sim today, that i otherwise wasn’t close to finishing using regular conventional outro/healing buffs into dps rotation edit: encore/sanhua/verina team, lv 60, lv 50 purp weps it helps break so much faster too since you waste less time->use more skills->more concerto->way more outro/intro and they do huge reverberation damage, and it gives you such a comfier window to dps on break. putting parries in the mix, u can find so many more dps windows for bosses that have short pauses between atks
this is really interesting ngl. almost makes me wanna pull jiyan for the air combos with yangyang lmaoo, but hopefully yinlin has these kinds of things as well! definitely gonna practice with some characters and see what ends up working. this is the kind of combat ive been wanting to see in wuwa.
Lol i just got jiyan today(yesterday now i guess) and the first thing i said when I tried him out was that he plays like a fighting game character. Lo and behold the FGC delivers. I havent had enough time to get good at the game yet but i did observe that you can use his dash as a "side switch" during juggling combos with his normal form, allowing you to control the direction youre carrying the mobs at any time even without ult. I feel like jiyan is probably like a training wheels character for this game. We'll get to see the real cooking from kuro in a few patches.
I'm going to be honest. I don't even use intro outro most of the time. All I'm doing is just evade, parry, attack. Cyan heron is goated though. Free chase and when you combo it with spectro rover, the airtime is hella long.
FGC player here, loved the vid, and looking forward to the guide for all the tech although with this amount of characters and tech it would be better to do an doc/spreadsheet cuz the video about is about to be so long
I had no idea for most of what he said.. until this video.. and the fact that WuWa is attracting these types of players is saying something about the quality of the combat system
My optimal hu tao execution kicking in when i saw the kara cancel: When you showed the double launcher i immediately knew it was a cancelled jump cancel. Btw. The correct meaning of kara cancel is empty cancel, or cancel into nothing. Kara means empty in japanese. It is really a kara cancel when you can cancel jump startup. Unfortunately, i can't run wuwa. HOLY SHIT. NEGATIVE EDGING?! LMAO, KURO, CHARGE PARTITIONING AND MICRODASH WHEN LMAO. Iyo, you know what this reminds me? Early genshin days where people discussed if jump cancel was faster than dash cancel. I hope kuro showcases all this tech for newbies through puzzles os quests like they did with mobility.
Exactly. I don’t think he could dumb the concepts down any further. It’s going to require a lot of practice and trial and error to figure out optimal techs. The fact that we can do some is crazy enough. Big problem in this game is the awful camera though. It really bugs out.
are you guys fr?? He already explained everything in details and you still guys don't get it. Even the sound queue sounds funny to explain because it's common sense
@@mavisiu1387it's not common sense if you aren't familiar with the concepts and have seen this in other games I'm not even sure what the sound he was talking about was, if it was the very obvious slashing sound that starts or if there is a more subtle sound I'm missing
Negative edge can be simplified to an action that happens on button release rather than button press. This is great tech but as of the way we build jiyan his ult mortefis ult etc this wont help him. I can see this being amazing for cal yinlin or encore teams if they have similar animations.
lol i tried to explain this to people and they were like what? animation startup swap? what's that? never played a fighting game before. taoqi has some unique properties where you can summon stuff during attacks and the attack will keep going

XD
This was fantastic info! also the idea of a proper training mode. love it. you got my sub!
Hope this vid gets shared a lot
It makes me feel so .. Motivated!
1:50 took me tf out yo 🤣🤣
😂
After playing Ninja Legacies and NStorm, your explanation makes sense and I can't believe I didn't try it sooner!
Been watching GBG since the game launched he's the best I've ever seen with the combos in this game.
ngl just watched the intro and that looks INSANE!
the more hype thing is, this is only 1.0, i can wait what Kuro will cook
You have to be almost frame perfect to do this but i got it after a hot minute. Can't wait to see more of what you find out
This is why I like this game. It's a fighting game first. That is likely why CBT1 story was so weak. Loving this game.
As someone that loves fighting games and loves figuring out combos in Genshin where I juggled enemies this has me hyped
I mean yeah juggling like this won't work but that's not the only application theoretically.
If they remove this stuff I’m dropping the game. 😭
I'm new to your channel I've seen a couple videos in the past. But the genuine excitement is contagious
This was removed as of 06/06/2024. Yinlin killed outro buffs staying on when you change character control. How we feelin?
Both of these mechanics are still in the game. Yinlin arriving didn’t do anything to them. The outro skill change has been here since launch.
Dodging, parrying cancelling animation etc is too much fun . I am new to this type of combat system cuz i never played fighting games but damn the satisfaction is real. I am addicted.
NAHHHHHHH THIS CHANGES MY WHOLE VIEW ON TEAM BUILDING NOW, my FGC addiction is seeping into my gacha addiction this aint healthy now
I don't see anyone really talk about it, but you can dash-cancel parries, allowing you to try the hit while still getting the dodge to be safe. I'm not a fighting game player so I don't know the implications of this
I wonder if jump cancelling will be figured out so you can do infinite juggling. It would be cool if they added a style system and combo count.
So cool! thanks for the tips!
@@kyrildmtr8487 you’re right it really shows the potential skill ceiling of this game. I look forward to future discoveries 🙌🏿
dps wise, switch cancelling gave me the dps to do lv 80 monkey sim today, that i otherwise wasn’t close to finishing using regular conventional outro/healing buffs into dps rotation
edit: encore/sanhua/verina team, lv 60, lv 50 purp weps
it helps break so much faster too since you waste less time->use more skills->more concerto->way more outro/intro and they do huge reverberation damage, and it gives you such a comfier window to dps on break. putting parries in the mix, u can find so many more dps windows for bosses that have short pauses between atks
Been playing fighting games forever and I didnt know why this game interested me so much on the fighting aspect, now....I know why.
Finally, an accurate af title! lol
Wuthering waves is the combat i was waiting for with genshin tbh
Same brother, finally a game that challenge the player 😎🤙
this is really interesting ngl. almost makes me wanna pull jiyan for the air combos with yangyang lmaoo, but hopefully yinlin has these kinds of things as well! definitely gonna practice with some characters and see what ends up working. this is the kind of combat ive been wanting to see in wuwa.
Teach me how to combat teach me the ways Iyo teach me how to be gamer
I'm going to be honest. I don't even use intro outro most of the time. All I'm doing is just evade, parry, attack. Cyan heron is goated though. Free chase and when you combo it with spectro rover, the airtime is hella long.
A Training dummy can be kinda used for combos.
They are the fragmented rock thingies for puzles.
It won't move, but it does count it, as a target.
Pretty sure CN did this already. I remember CN doing it with Calcharo to build up his ult gauge faster.
Looking to see people start saying "Start up frames" "active frames" and "recovery frames"(time to switch).
My optimal hu tao execution kicking in when i saw the kara cancel:
When you showed the double launcher i immediately knew it was a cancelled jump cancel.
You need to dumb this down more for us casual players. This sounds fun to try an master but I will need it dumb down.
He already did. He explained how to do it by listening to sound/visual queue.
Exactly. I don’t think he could dumb the concepts down any further. It’s going to require a lot of practice and trial and error to figure out optimal techs. The fact that we can do some is crazy enough. Big problem in this game is the awful camera though. It really bugs out.
@@apollocrest He could have dumbed down negative edge by just saying the game registers the release of a button as an input lol
are you guys fr?? He already explained everything in details and you still guys don't get it. Even the sound queue sounds funny to explain because it's common sense
@@mavisiu1387it's not common sense if you aren't familiar with the concepts and have seen this in other games
I'm not even sure what the sound he was talking about was, if it was the very obvious slashing sound that starts or if there is a more subtle sound I'm missing
Hi Iyo thank you VERY VERY MUCH i never was a fan of playing figthing games i played games like Devil may cry very causaly and never got into thoes huge endless combo stuff and so on but following your video and try and error for liek an hour i can now finally chain Jiyans hold attack without going into the air i am very excited for future videos from you thank you also sorry for my butcherd english and greetings from germany ^^
I agree with everything you said wholeheartedly, EN guides rarely consider these things but CN has caught on which was a major reason for many characters going up in the tier list like sanhua, havok rover and jianxin. i strongly hope we see more EN guides start to realise this is not genshin at all combat wise and begin to evaluate it how the game is actually designed to be.
