Wonderful to watch hunting in an age old fashion, as before the shotgun was thought of. Lovely to watch the dogs working the woods, and what an impressive bird the goshawk is. 👍
Longtime interest in falconry and hawking!! Once was able to hunt several times with a Gyr falcon trainer taking pheasant and crow! She was almost pure white with dark spots, very strong and would wait on or fly from the fist! Beautiful to watch!
As a angler of 50 years that looks brillant fun to me. I love the way sparrow hawks and goshawks can fly at speed through cover in pursuit .lovely vidio .just got my first really good look at a red kite yesterday about 6 miles south of Banbridge on A1 .beautiful bird bit more graceful looking than buzzard
Irish descendant in northern ontario Canada here. I hunt with a 20 gauge shot gun, on long walks, solo, deep in the woods, we have wolves running around, I have a wolf tag, so I carry heavier ammo for that in case. We have the very odd ring necked pheasant like I'm seeing there but mostly sharp tailed grouse, rabbit, wild cats, moose, in the north, all you'd expect. I love Ireland, the history, family came from Lough Gill, Sligo ( last name is Cuirnín). I figured I'd see you guys with rifles at the start of the vid but this was quite something. We can get flacon licenses in Canada, you got me thinking, save coin on ammo, I had no idea of their abilities. You men really dress it up, I have good gear and thermo as it's cold up here -35 celcius at worst off Lake Superior, I couldnt get away with my cap from Ireland maybe early fall. Anyhow hope to make it over.
@@seadrifter8975 It's really does, I spent the day off Ranger Lake Rd. Which is north of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario if you want to look on Google maps. There are a ton, ton of lakes. Most of them are loaded with trout. It's a drive but worth it. You Irish would love. There are descendants that loged out the roads into the backcountry.
If someone randomly asked me "What do you think Irishmen hunting pheasant with hawks would look like?" This would be it, the outfits, types of dogs, the forest, everything about this is perfect
Looks like a very fun day of hunting! Always love watching dogs work a field and hedgerow. Dogs doing what they were born to do and Goshawks doing what they were born to do. Cool video.
I know goshawks are built for it, but man that gos can move!! Great Video, hat's off for the true falconers not ones who fly birds in shows, but who actually hunt the bird
There is a beautiful cooperation between 3 animals to get a meal. I want to get into falconry more than hawks just cause I love the tenacity and efficiently of the smaller prey birds. But amazing video nonetheless! That was awesome.
Wicked cool! I'm not familiar with goshawks they seem like a praregrine falcon similar stature speed appearance and lb for lb even tougher then big hawks and eagles very very cool I'm jealous and now I want a goshawk and I love how they so small but no problem dispatching huge pheasants etc. So cool!
First time seeing this and wow wow wow.. hoe very impressive and how quickly the hawk picks up the bird for the kill. Real amazing seeing animals and humans work in harmony... Beautiful hawks being able to do what they are good at... Great job gentleman
The must have amazing hit ratio. Wonder how these birds (Hawks) spend their time in wild (after catching their prey)? Don't think the pheasant's can escape the hawks (too slow in flight). Thanks for sharing.
Very kewl , but to much time retrieving the bird for me . I live in the midwest and have always wanted to try this with a falcon or osprey 👌...kewl video for sure 👍👍👍👍
Appreciate it’s a long time since video uploaded but I came across it and wondered why the hawks spread their wings when feeding after the kill. There must be a good reason but I know nothing about hunting with birds.
It's called mantling. It's just a thing they do to prevent other hawks from stealing it. They'll also sometimes puff themselves up to look bigger and flare their crests.
Excuse me can I ask? What tracking device are you using? What is the name of its type of tracking device? Sorry my English is bad, because I am from Indonesia Thank you :)
This is the type of conservation I like to see. Guns are useful tools when it comes to hunting and conservation, but they're also dangerous. It makes me happy that there are skilled professionals that can use animals like hawks and falcons as nature intended - hunters!
Ya know mideval peasants used falconry to hunt for survival, and it’s not actually that expensive (you don’t have to constantly buy ammo for a Hawk 😉). It just takes more time and commitment.
Is the dog being used to flush? I'm very new to falconry but wondering why the birds are not kind of released to go and find their own prey/quarry and rather 'sent' towards it once its found? Or is it because they might capture something that is illegal to hunt?
I do not know anything about falconry but I do know quite a bit about pheasants. From what I have seen they fear raptors more than any man or dog and their primary defense is to stay hidden or run on the ground. They are poor flyers and will usually only fly as a last resort when a sensitive dog's nose has sniffed them out or a person nearly steps on them.
It either has a really good relationship with its owner or they have leather straps around its feet like I’ve seen them do with golden eagles, either way the birds still let their owners take them, I think it’s more of a partnership rather than ownership, because if the bird wanted to it could just leave, but that one guy had his goshawk chipped, that’s why he had that metal antenna
Read the brilliant book 'H is for Hawk' by Helen MacDonald, she trained a Goshawk and the description is riveting, a prize winning book. I really hate hunting but do understand the relationship between a hawk and its trainer and the bird must be rewarded for its efforts; very difficult to watch the death of the pheasants but, I guess, it's just Nature.
I thought you killed all raptors to protect your frankenpheasants & frankenpartridges !? ,,,,,,,,, gents !? Also why is the land exclusively for your lot & everyone else GET ORF MY LAND !?

Such gorgeous, gorgeous landscape, like what you would find in a story book.
I love how you can tell the dogs are having the times of their lives just givin er in the bush

Not all Irish here by any means.
Nice to see that Hawking is alive and well in Ireland. The birds look great and lots of game taken in fine style.
It even PLUCKS the feathers for you.
Target acquired: launch feather missile.

Stunning birds of prey just fantastic to watch, the hours of training must be phenomenal!
These folks are real pros - I enjoy watching and appreciate their care and dedication to the goshawks!
Lol. 🛋🥔compliments
excellent camerawork and good to see Goshawk on top form..

That type of hunting it's like art 🎨
Beautiful! I've been reading "H is for Hawk" by Helen MacDonald, and this video gives me great insight into how goshawks hunt.

Same here!! 1/3 of the way through it.

These RUclips algorithms are fucked. 7 years later, in 2020, this video this finds its way into my recommendations.
Fantastic video thanks for sharing
great video, fascinating stuff
Wow, its amazing how well they are trained and eager to work.
the falcons are pretty cool too
@@swamprat69 What falcon?
It looks like a lot of fun! The bird gets his fill too
It's amazing how the dogs is running through thick brambles like its nothing, does it not get hurt?

Yep falconry is one of the most unique sports in the world

Nice, I love hunting trips like you
That’s an amazing watch. How long did it take you to feel comfortable that the birds were ready to hunt with?
Got to love irish Fieldsports
This is the real meaning of haunting with goshawk. Really good done, that video. Great!

That's absolutely magnificent ! What a beautiful way to spend outdoors.
Seriously the best hunting I've ever seen, I'd love to be there.
Saw this in North Yorkshire last year. VERY effective!
Thanks for the video.
Very interesting exciting and wonderful work that the pheasant bird is hunted falcon💥💥💥⚘🌹🥀
its cool to see the people working the dogs and birds to hunt, awesome!
3:48-3:52 it saw the bird early before it launched look for its head to lock on and tilt.
Awesome vidéo ,all goshawk are very acetive
What a Beautiful Color Green!!!

Goshawk should have a little GoPro so we can see the kill.
Too small of a raptor

You can tell when the hawk sees the pheasant before the dog flushes it. He gets to take off before you release it.
very nice video and watching Don in action with a goshawk.
i'm love hawks ! good video !
beautiful country beautiful birds.
They're not even a native species though. All peasants are native to Asia.
darren barkham is a shame they doing that.

Amazing birds.
Cool, I'll stick to my shotty/gsp combo though I think!
COULD ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TYPE OF DOG BREED?
Cocker spaniels, Springer spaniels.

Caça de alta classe cavalheiros, bom trabalho.
GOSHAWKS: God's gift to falconers!
One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen
cracking video i want to own a goshawk now...
Now this is falconry I could handle. I think an eagle might knock me over but I'm big enough to handle a goshawk.
Do goshawks exist in the wild in Ireland or are there only Sparrowhawks here
Clean and class 👍🇨🇮
This was so fun to watch, and i don't even like hunting :o 10/10
Do you like eating?
That Hawk saw that lheasant before the owner did.
i wonder during these group hunts, how often are there problems with the BOP trying to attack each other, is that a thing?
This is the type of conservation I like to see. Guns are useful tools when it comes to hunting and conservation, but they're also dangerous. It makes me happy that there are skilled professionals that can use animals like hawks and falcons as nature intended - hunters!
Примечательно то , что сокол замечает добычу еще прежде, чем она взлетит 3:53.
This is some aristocratic shit right here. “Hunting with a 12 gauge? 20 gauge today?” “Nah. Hawk.”
“And I thought buckshot was expensive!”
Ya know mideval peasants used falconry to hunt for survival, and it’s not actually that expensive (you don’t have to constantly buy ammo for a Hawk 😉). It just takes more time and commitment.
I don't think you'd want to use buckshot on pheasants, lol.
That bird is so impressive!
Ireland... beautiful...

Madam Zanzibar yes well train dogs can get to places maybe the bird cant or human cant
Makes me want to live in Ireland
Wow never seen this type of hunting before how does it work/prepare the hawk for it?
And why doesn't the hawk just take off since it's outside free.
you could call it a partner ship, something many of the human race is failing at doing so knowing that true meaning is rare.
Seriously, you've never heard of Falconry?
Blazing_Fox it's been trained it's whole life with people and it know when it's done good it's rewarded.
How do you legally obtain a goshawk?
This is really interesting to watch why did he put a clip on the hawks tail?
Why the hair clip on the tail feathers after the kill? To stop it flying away?
So classy so cool Us Middle Easterns love to do this so amazing Thank
Are these the same as a Harris hawk? Sorry I'm new
No, and much harder to train. Harris Hawks can hunt in groups and they are very intelligent.
It’s incredible how well their sight is. Every bird reacted before the guys carrying them when a bird flushed.
No, that just shows you how fast their reflexes are because the difference between a meal and going hungry can come down to reaction time
Ace vid lads the closest thing I have done to this is bolting rabbits with my ferrets for my mates Goshawk.
Good hunting !!! Very very good !!!
