Finally, a lengthy 1693 in-cab ridealong video with good sound! Nice rig and an awesome sounding CAT - the 1693 turbo whistles like no other engine. Great video!
Loved the 1693, did many heads on them. We ran them in old logging junk, they would go from full throttle on a heavy pull to idle, the belt driven water pump didn't put out enough to cool the head after all of that heat. We ran a fleet of Kenworth 850 off highway logging trucks, all DD 12V71 powered except for 1, it had the 1693. Twin stick, 6 speed main and 4 speed A box. That truck would leave the leaking greenies so far behind it was crazy, 2-3 more gears on the hills, more power all around. And the sound, so sweet. The only engine that has a better sound in my world is the Cat 3408. Put that in a off highway logging truck with 120 tons on it, Hell yeah. Loved the scenery.
Drove my motorcoach up that way last year. Lost a tooth in the rear end, so had to stay a night or two in the Walmart parking lot until I could make it up to the springs for a new rear end. Good times!
I was over that pass probably 20 times in the 70's and 80's visiting relatives in Denver . Stopped in Trinidad a couple of times and would have moved there to escape the West tx heat except there weren't many decent paying jobs ! have fun !
Thanks for the ride. Love that pass, been over it many times. Really like the view coming down southbound. Have a safe trip...like they say keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.
Wow, Zach..that 1693 prrrs so good, love hearing it pull up those I-25 mountain passes. I could listen to that engine all day and never tire of it. Looks like you have great weather for traveling. Hopefully is a lot cooler at those higher altitudes. Its been terribly hot here in SW Indiana. Safe travels man, and thanks for the ride out West, love it!!
"The Grades, he'll never catch me on The Grades!"........ Sort of makes you appreciate nature and the outside world when you can lift your head away from your everyday work. Looks like a beautiful piece of country out there. At least this time, you got a bit further away from home!
I hope you find cooler temps up that way. Here in Oklahoma we've been averaging 99-109 past few weeks but next week just upper 80s woohoo! Safe travels enjoy the trip.
I just bought my first motorhome, 40 foot with air brakes and everything, and I find out anyone can drive it, no special license needed, so my question is, does your Toterhome classify as a Comercial vehicle, or a motorhome that anyone could legally drive?
@@TheZachLife We go to gunnison and Tin cup area every year and last couple of years we started going around also. Allways feel like if I go up monarch and my truck has an issue I don’t know about I’ll find it while going up monarch

Love the still with the Liberty frac van. Thank you for the video of wonderful sound!
I just saw Jeff Anderson ( Jpaydirt ) give You a shout-out. It is good to hear of a couple of knowledgeable guys working together. Best Wishes Zach !
Yeah, it's been pretty cool talking to him.
Well can’t believe I missed this video
She sounds beautiful Zach!! Love this machine. Your craftsmanship is superb.
I love the scary sound of a 1693 cold start.
Thanks for the ride along Zack. Been a few years since I've traveled those roads.😊

They said Miami, OK set the hottest heat index in OK. 126.6ish°
@@mrgoodtimes05 It wouldn't surprise me if it did.
Love the double clutch smooth agoing...
Thanks for posting sounds good looked like the ride was pretty smooth still looking forward to a pros & cons follow up someday
Thanks. I'm working on it. Should be out in a couple of weeks.
Zach, that Cat purrs!
I love the chatter on the CB
100%
... ain't nothing like a Cat runnin' a Peterbilt !! ... Keep on Truck'n and Keep no pump'n that Texas Crude ... Roll On Safe ... !!
Man! Wish I was out there
Very cool!
Thanks.
Cool video. It was the late 60s or very early 70s when I went over the pass
West bound and Down....!!!!
Howdy Zach
Enjoyed the video
Thanks for watching.
Don't you just love endless miles of road construction. lol
Haha no joke. I looks about the same as it did last year.
Very cool. Trinidad bound?
Where do you plan on parking the rig? Truck stop, campground, etc...
Both. We stayed several nights in a Koa outside of Salida.
😊
Keep er rolling into the Kootenays! I have a nice spot for you to park on Kootenay Lake. Whats the ol' girl putting up for turbo boost psi?
Hahaha its make about 26-28
Zachlife has the hamer down.

In Texas anything over 26,000lbs requires a cdl OR a non commercial class B license. Mine is no different than any other RV.
AWESOME!! And I’m jealous. I thought you’d be leading the pack. What all did you have on the trailer?
Thanks. My 85 suburban and my kubota side by side thing.
Do You know how a 60 series detroit is like a green banana ?
Neither one is worth much till they turn yellow. 😮
Does it smoke like a 1693 ought to?
This thing smoke like a locomotive.
Does that thing count as a cmv as far as scale houses go
Did you lose a strap Zach?
Haha I did.
Since youve completed the unit, how has the mpg been? Any improvement?
The worst it will get pushing wind and driving hard is about 5. If a little bit easier it will get close to 6
What grade is that?
It’s not super steep. I’d guess 5-6%
How was the temp gauge?
It’s the top right gauge. It got up to 185-190
@@TheZachLife that's perfect! You can't ask for anything better than that. I watch the temp gauge the most. Closely followed by the fuel gauge. Ha!
Considering the weight that Truck is geared for and the 425HP 1693 Cat will be able to pull any pass at the speed limit.
7:44 hahaaha
Need to keep that hammer lane clear! Zach is coming through! 😄
Take it over monarch pass outside of salida co
I didn't go over monarch but we stayed in a koa at the foot of monarch out side of salida.
