Awesome video, Zach!! Just love the way you take us along with you and share your oil field knowledge. I really appreciate the time you take to do this, I know its difficult work dealing with the wind, heat, mechanical issues, etc. You make it look so easy. What I enjoy the most is your up front honesty, applied knowledge, and watching you enjoy what you do. Your camera work is excellent! It always makes my day to see another ZachLife video. Love your videos, been operating wells for over 20 years and I started on small wells like you have, but now work at a sophisticated carbon capture field up in Canada. Been in the oilfield since I graduated high school, started on service rigs. Keep up the good work! By the way scads is good but also a headache. Thanks for answering our questions (and mine too). I've always been curious on how those pumps work and all the logistics around them. After watching your videos, I guess I now know. Thanks for the great content.
My father had a tiny interest in a producing gas well in Oklahoma. When he passed, I inquired with the state of OK about transferring that interest into my name. The fee they wanted was about 20 years worth of the royalty. I passed on spending the money.
Oil is here to stay. It is indispensable and there are a few billion people in the lesser developed world that want to consume oil at the level we do in the developed world. The next generation will be as busy as you are. God Bless!
One thing that makes H2S so deadly is this: At first, for a few seconds you can smell it, but then for some reason your nose just can't smell it anymore and you think you're safe until you just drop dead. I learned all about H2S when I was working in a paper mill. If you EVER smell H2S you need to leave the are as fast as you can. trust me, it's really unforgiving.
Yes and no. It's not that after a few seconds of exposure you no longer smell it. It varys at concentration, with 300ppm being both the concentration that it immediately burns the receptors in your nose and can kill you instantly. 100ppm is enough to knock you unconscious, but as little as 1-2ppm is both okay for you and still smells. I've worked in 10-30 parts without respiratory gear, and 10-300 parts while under supplied air more then I can count
@@Propaneo-insaneopersonally my opinion prolly turned from asteroids into meteors at that point you just go commando. The savings out weigh the costs.
Hey Zach, I work for one of the big guys out here hydraulically fracking wells in the Permian. It's definitely interesting seeing this side of production.
You have to be ready to change with the times. I think passing this family business on could be good in the aspect of having somewhere to start from and something to go off. The hard part is what patch to take next. A lot of the business owners with kids I know are letting their business die, and the kids are going into the cities to take mediocre jobs.
Seems he sees, like the rest of us, that the government is doing everything they can to kill his business. He has the experience of 5 generations and has seen the way things have changed. Politicians, especially the left, have put more and more regulations on this side of the economy that soon it won’t be profitable whether fines or penalties.
Great info and great video Zach. Can't wait to see the next ones about the wells. H2S, the difference between sweet crude and sour. We have lots of H2S here. Stay safe my friend.
Best video I've watched all day. I was looking at the Texas ERCOT web page today, not much wind turbine production, solar good, hydrocarbon provided most of the power.
Just a quick question,,,, Can you still use the finger that was mashed off to pick your nose? I don't imagine you have any feeling in the finger hence the question. I cut the end almost off my finger and got the feeling back in the tip, allowing me to use it to pick my nose. thanks Zach, Sam

The rig operator I worked most of his brothers worked in the oilfield and I don't remember all of the details but the drilling rig hit a pocket of bad gas, H2SO4, and the rig crew was found when the relief crew showed up for their shift and they were laying on the ground less than fifty feet away from the rig that is how fast that gas will kill you, you will die before you can smell it and if the gas detector isn't working or there is such a large amount of it you can't run away from it. We did have a few companies that wouldn't let personal with beards to work on some of their wells because of a chance of bad gas in the well. I worked on a well that our gage said we had 600 psi gas pressure on the casing but after blowing it off for some time when the valve was opened up all the way all hell broke loose and the valve came out of the well head and after the gas stopped it was oil and gas. The well was killed with salt water and the next day and with a new gage the pressure was 1000 psi not the 600 psi like the day before so the old gage was put on back on and it still read 600, bad gage. Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
