    Herringbone gears doing what they do best, limit lateral loads. Slick and classic machinery design. Straight cut gears would be cheaper but not last near as long. Those boxes are really elegantly designed and executed.

    Not trying to be that guy with this comment. I love the poor boy oilfield angle lol. I was a pumpjack mechanic for 20 years here in Alberta. Don’t agree with some of the tactics here but it’s his iron and he can do what he likes. With these little jacks you can knock wrist pins out with the nut still one so they don’t hit the ground! Break that casting and it’s often a waiting game to find a new one some times. A set of flat wedges to spread the crank arms a touch and you can pull them off and install them by hand in less then 30 seconds no need for the press or hammer. For the low speed seals same thing hammer the hard 90 angle of the seal pulling in and rip it out. No need to drill into it and maybe put large filing chunks into the oil sump for the low speed bearings. Plus he’s half right about the pinion sound. It’s making that noise mostly cause it has no load on it so these 3 phase motors kinda surge a little and that’s what the noise is cause the pinion is chasing the High speed gear. This unit would sound ok if it gets balanced good. I have seen a few videos with other jacks looking almost to out of balance. He could be saving a lot in belt replacements and the power bill to get them within 5 amps draw. A perfectly balanced jack should be basically able to lift the arms to 12 with the sheave by hand.

  • @jeffpiatt3879
    @jeffpiatt3879 Год назад +6

    You can put an impact hammer on the end of that shaft of that pulley or whatever it was you were trying to pull at the start of the video. Get a pry bar and put pressure on the back side of what you are trying to pull and keep the impact hammer pounding on the end of the shaft and the pulley or whatever and keep prying on the back side and it will come off way easier than using a puller. Been doing this for 30 years with lawnmower engine flywheels, car engine flywheels, etc. Thumbs up! Love your videos!

    • @jimw7ry
      @jimw7ry 11 месяцев назад

      There is virtually no load on that motor just turning a few un-loaded gears. Not like your trying to pump oil with it running on 240 volts. The motor is designed for 480 volts, so its running on 1/2 voltage anyway.

    No need to change the oil because there is no combustion blowing carbon past cylinder rings. The oil never gets saturated with carbon, and the gears run cool so the oil doesn't break down. But I'd throw a bigass magnet in there to collect any metal shavings. The shavings are abrasive and they'll eat away at the gears.

    • @jonasstahl9826
      @jonasstahl9826 Год назад +1

      Actual not, oil also break down from mechanical shearing force it basicly cut the oil molecules and the oil get thinner, at somepoint it is to thin to stick to the gears and they lack lubrication.

It probably stays relatively fresh as it gets topped off on a regular basis due to leakage. As he said you probably could change the oil but it’s not enough of a difference maker so why?
