FYI don't spam open them as you don't give the RNG time to reset so you end up with far more greens then anything else. I have tested it by waiting 3-5 sec between opening each box. I used a test pool of 2mil dilithium and 500 Phoenix boxes. I hope this helps your odds to get better prize pack for grinding down for upgrades.
Does this mean if I get something like an UR or even Epic token I SHOULD spam-click in the hopes of using the same roll for a couple of boxes?
@@Starjumper2821 Spamming them will net you more green and purple. I have gotten more UR and Epic by opening slowly.
I'm on playstation and I followed this advice and got 1 epic, 2 UR, 1 VR, and 6 rares. It works.

I want to thank you for all your vids/info. Only been in the STO MMO since Jul '20 and glad I found you. Making my ships better for events and TFOs. I started reading in reddit but these vids are so much easier and breakup into the parts.
Phoenix are some of the best boxes in game. Better stuff than the lock boxes spill out - at least choose what I need.

Phoenix all the way BABY! Same method I use. I've had 1 Epic Token in all my years of STO. If I want a quick 40k Dilithium to buy 10 Phoenix boxes, I usually "borrow" from my alt toons. Only do this when I really want to upgrade a new item as fast as possible.

I wish you had showed how to get it to epic if you don't succeed getting it there by mk XV at 8:20, I don't think a 5% chance is that good even with 14 attempts. If you get it to MK XV, that's when you'll REALLY start burning phoenix upgrades fast if you are there without getting to epic before that if your goal is now only to increase the quality. That I would have liked to see what it takes then. Omega upgrades are better it seems, though they do have diminishing returns past I think 5th level. With the booster you can have like 5 chances at 40% each.
Great vid, really clear and helpful. I’m a long time casual player and explanations like these are super helpful, because as you said, there are so many things to this game that arnt explained at all.

Thanks for this. Once again I've inadvertently learned something else that was important while watching to learn about another thing.
As a new player I currently only have the free character level reward ship as my main go-to ship so maybe one of those Phoenix ships are a worthy get until some event comes around that rewards an actually decent ship lol.
Does the R&D level influence these equipment upgrades? In other words, if I was attempting to upgrade lets say a phaser bank and using a Phoenix universal upgrade, would I need less of them or get a better result if my character was trained to lets say level 15 beam weapons in R&D compared to a character with only level 3 beam weapons R&D training? Or maybe that has absolutely no bearing at all?

Is there a version of this video that answers more beginner questions like what should be saved for upgrading later? Or if a level 36 should care about upgrading my current gear to mk8 using these upgrade kits or hold on to then? Just noticing a lot of your beginner videos are totally not for actual beginners like me

You say they do upgrade weekends every couple months, is there a set schedule that can be viewed somewhere?
There is not, but there should be one coming up soon. It's been a little while.
If your luck is anything like mine then it's always just had one or soon to be another and you'll never see one. I come and go from STO so I almost always miss them, think I've seen like four upgrade weekends in 8 years or so I've been playing.

Great video and info. Thanks. So with the "old way" it was R&D related right? Like your capt's R7D skill was related? If so does that mean there is no reason to worry about crafting skills anymore? I was trying to raise mine with the daily experience tasks. Is that mostly a waste now?
There are other benefits to leveling your R&D, I would continue to do so.
so Best way to get good gear is to find the cheapest one and open a gacha box to get the upgrade matts then upgrade it to max ?? and how do i know if there is weekend bonus (in the official"/news" page) ??

I would wait till 65 and make sure it is gear you will keep using.

I took your advice i bought 1200 zen converted it dilithium then bought around 60 phenix price boxes now i have 256 upgrade packs, did not drop 1 epic token hoping fet one ships
I have not got any epic in years now, probably opened 100+ boxes. The drop rate is so low. Its a bummer!

Was this method nerfed recently? I saw that the Phoenix Upgrade Kits now have 38,400 TP.
It is still the most efficient way, but yes it was nurfed...
good video so can you use thos packaegs on any upgrade or do you need buy a pasific token upgrade the diffrent gear on your ship
No, the Phoenix upgrade can be used on anything in the game.

Thanks for the info buddy but I have one more question, is there a place on the message boards where u can ask the developers to try to get their hands on a certain T6 ship & put it in the Zen Store?? Cause they don't have the T6 version of the Excelsior Class in the Zen Store

How can you buy ultra rare rep gear
To buy rep gear that is at ultra rare instead of very rare, you have to have a temporal recruit character and completed its special missions. 4:13 what the heck does 'change instance' mean ?
Most maps you go to can only hold 20 people at a time. So for example if you are on earth space stock there could be hundreds of people on it at once but you are only on an instance with up to 20. If you want to join a friend and you’re both on earth space stock but one of you are an instance three and the other is an instance 10 one of you would need to change instances to the one your friend is on or both of you go to an instance that has a small amount of people on it. You can do this by clicking The location title that is right above the map and then clicking on change instance.

On the star trek online featured page i seen there is a elachi battle cruiser going for 1700 zen and cryptic have the cheek say you would be a sucker to miss this deal, are they serious 17000 zen that that around £150 pounds for that ship that is ridiculous

Upgrades dont work. It takes your dilithium and mods and does nothing. No upgrades but lost $ shows under assets. Best to avoid.
Try clicking the upgrade button at the bottom left of your inventory window, if it shows it in the upgrade window then you will need to click the claim button.

Well this is embarrassing, played sto with plain equipment and now I learned you can do stuff like this, wow I’m dumb, btw I have a lot of building material just sitting in my inventory this whole time
The game is huge and no explanation to mechanics in game, outside info is our only guide. Been playing on Xbox for years, and still find new information
Excuuuse me, for being a woefully clueless 67 year old user of Star Trek Online. But "Phoenix Packs"? 'Accelerators'? There seems to be quite a lot of the Star Trek Online program, that to 'this' user, comes across as a "perverted, sadistic, inside joke".
If you weren't among the very first "beta-testers" of STO, you're going to play a totally 'rigged' game of catch-up!
P.S., Yeah, yeah, I can hear all of the 'smug' knee-jerk 'gamer' responses about 'Whining'.
