Yes, there are booster commodities that provide boost XP : 10,000 Research XP Bonus Pool 20,000 Research XP Bonus Pool Both currently cost 400k on the exchange ... , because STO exchange ... . BTW, are you planning on doing similar tutorials on Commendation , Doff assignment chains or Accolades ? I know some are worth doing because of some unique awards, but I long forgot what they were ... :) (now days I just remember the Diplomatic commendation chain that gives you a Boff from the opposite Faction after lvl 4 ...)
When and if you get to level 15 in beams and want to craft An Omni beam you need a special duty officer to craft it. That duty officer can be bought on Station K13 in the alpha quadrant. Her name is Tesva P'siv. DO NOT get rid of her or you will have to buy her again.Great duty officer for your bridge crew as well she gives a cool down to lieutenant commander bridge officer abilities if you slot her in your space active slots in your roster.
A good video: I could have used this information when I started playing the game. A year ago I was confused and didn't know what I had to do to progress in the game. Now I know better and can level up my new characters faster. Thanks for your effort in explaining it.
2nd Daily R&D Bonus Pool: In the same lab where you did that daily R&D for 5000 XP there is another NPC that gives a Daily Doff Mission that can give you 2000K+. You can buy Krenim Duty Officers from the other lab room which will guarantee a successful mission and increase your chance to crit for even more XP. Crit Chance: The rarity of your Doff affects your crit chance to get either high rarity or extra XP points. Uncommon duty officer adds +5 Crafting Skill, Rare duty officer adds +15 Crafting Skill and Very Rare duty officer adds +30 Crafting Skill. By getting critical on the Daily 5000XP you can get +2500 and 6000 an extra 4000 XP Points.
R&D XP Bonus Pool Points: These are used to add XP to your bonus pool. 20% of the pool will be rewarded for each daily completed. R&D Packs and the Exchange. Also, from the Recruit Events as Account Wide rewards.
Skill Catalysts: This will allow you to increase your skill when crafting an item. This will increase the probability of a critical success outcome that will give better rewards. You can get them as random drops from R&D Packs. Zen Store, and the Exchange. Common Catalyst: +10 Skill Rating, Uncommon Catalyst: +25 Skill Rating, and Rare Catalyst: +50 Skill Rating. I only use these for the the VR Components since they use dilithium and if they get a critical you will get 15 of the price of 5.
When your fleet RL holding rolls a special weekly purple assignment after a certain level, it will automatically give you a little more dilithium (from 1200 to 1320) for a week through the daily assignment at the lab after your fleet completes the holding assignment. Picking the best quality and matched skill doff for the daily RL assignment will increase your critical chance at getting an extra 1000 to 2500 XP added to the normal 5000 XP.
I don't know about all the slots, don't have the last couple unlocked. But you can at least run 4 concurrently. Also, you can choose the same research at once to focus it for all the xp. Good for getting that one type up to unlock another slot.
Very helpful video. A lot of players still don’t know about the Fleet Research Lab contact. It can help to level up your R&D and the extra dilithium you get is a very nice bonus. 🖖🏼
There are also R&D Research XP Boosts which can be obtained from either zen store or from lockboxes / exchange. They come in 3 variety: 2000, 10000 and 20000 R&D boost pools. Also there is a doff mission on Fleet research base which upon completing successfully will grant 2000 research boost pool and 5000 for critical success.
Ive been spamming the Research project but I had no idea about the Fleet Research Lab missions. Heck, I don't think Ive ever set foot on the Fleet Research Lab
So on the question about the maxing out research per day You can do 3/Category of the research projects. I've always done 6/day (3 of one and 3 of another) and as far as I could tell that does consume all slots and you can't do the fleet daily with that slot consumed.
Put craft on a keybind SO MUCH EASIER (action start key on keybind program) it loads the previous craft. Then click click click done! Don't have to scroll down to the bottom every time.
If you only care about leveling up the R&D as quickly as possible, then (assuming you have all 6 slots unlocked and 6 Research Lab Scientists), pick two schools. Start 3 Research Projects for each (ex. 3 Beam and 3 Cannon). Don't worry about the Fleet Research task. The R&D Research Projects are 6,000 XP each, the Fleet Research Project is 5,000 XP. However, if you want the extra bonuses from the Fleet Research Project, then go ahead...but if the goal is to simply level up the R&D Schools as quickly as possible, then I'd stick with only the R&D Research Projects that award 6,000 XP each.
Hah. What timing. My main just started the final 4 R*D levelups this morning. Tomorrow she'll be level 20 in all schools. Edit: -You can fill up all six slots with R&D doffs. There is a cap of 3 per school, so I was training two schools at a time for the past couple of months. I never bothered with the fleet project, the regular project gives 6-7k research xp. -You can get bonus xp (1k) if your levelup project crits. You see it when you accept it (if it says 1000 on the icon, it'll give you 7k xp instead of 6k). At level 15 in a school (and beyond), every project crits, so you get 21k xp per school per day. This is where doff quality comes in at R&D level below 15. -There is a research xp pool project, one per 20h in the fleet research lab - you see the NPC that starts it at 7:42 in your video, on the left. It can fail, it can crit. It is a doff task, not an R&D project. -You can potentially use your recruitment to give you boosts. -You can also use recruitment rewards from other recruitments (have to check the wiki for what exactly, I forgot) to give you a research xp pool. But you have to be level 20 to claim those, iirc.
When tthey first put in the R&D update you could put all 6 into the same R&D then they took it down to once per school for a long time. I am still flush on EC from when Omni with Over were able to be made
There's only 3 research projects per 20 hours per category (beams, cannons, eng etc) allowed. BTW that R/D guy in the R/D hold isn't there unless your hold is higher tier. (I think development tier II)
If you don't have enough Research Lab Scientists to fill all the slots, you can still build components for the XP. Good chance you will use some of those components later on anyway.
@MC Stu. Yes there is another research booster available to Delta Recruit characters. I am drawing a blank now on specifics because I haven't been in game in a few days. However, there is a reward you can earn that will boost one of your schools to level 10 or you can choose bonus r&d points pool.
On my main, i have 4 r&b slots, but can only start 3 per tree. So what i do is set 3 for beams or engineering and then 1 in the opposite. Idk if the limit is 3 per tree, but thats what it gives me, the option dissappears after setting 3. Also, delta recruits (i believe) get a free skip to lvl 10 in 1 tree, but its a lvl reward, idk which lvl tho. But worth it if you want to use one toon as a researcher for ur new toons. I dont have 15 yet, so i cant say for all
You can easily create a few Emergency Hologram Duty Officers in the replicator. You also didn't explain very well that you can only put 3 researchers on the same task, but the task will still be available in other categories.
In the same room in the research lab is a npc that has a duty mission to get exp and whatever commodity the research lab needs for upgrades...however, upon successful completion of that mission it *also* rewards you with 2000 research xp pool bonus xp. Many miss that
I think you can only run 4 R&D projects per category, so 4 cannons, 4 beams etc. One question I have though, does the critical success have any effect on the bonus research xp? I don't think I've seen any obvious boost.
7:16 just to say I accidentally joined a fleet, while waiting for on a TFO, after a bit of running around it’s just next to the transporter to leave , but the transporter then wouldn’t talk to me so I was stuck a few minutes later I could beam out normally 😅
I feel dumb, been playing since the beginning of the game but never knew you could do the same R&D skill to lvl up quicker if you have enough duty officers to do that with
It still takes bloody ages to max a character. Invest in the one that you actually need on that character, then take any 2 and use 3 slots / per school until you max'em.
You can only run three tests per 20 hours…three beam, three cannon etc. or three different schools twice. Whatever. But 3 per school max and it cools down in 20 hours after you collect
1: 6 assignments every 20 hours but 3 max per school. 2: Get the 18H assignments for a 2k research bonus from the NPC in the same room as the Research Lab Technician. 3: Get Research XP bonus boosts on the exchange or boxes. 4: On PC, NUMPAD4 repeats the last launched project. 5: You need a good bunch of common and uncommon materials for the Research Lab Technician (still, can't never fail) so collect them as you see them, and you can get some as well in admiralty assignments.
PS: the higher your R&D level the better (rare very rare) quality of what you can craft ~ phaser beam II very rare - then - tech book or a phoenix >>> to level VII
M8 I have watched a number of your videos now and they all seem to me to be under the assumption that every player is at Fleet Admiral Level and pretty much maxxing out all their stuff and just looking for how they can improve on that and you say a lot if you just do this and that its really simple and easy and fast blah blah when it ain't, Your dreaming mate, I got characters at Fleet Admiral and no where near any the stuff I see in your videos, the only way your getting all this stuff is if your SPENDING REAL MONEY for ZEN.
Was looking forward to start playing this game because it is free but this video and a few others I've seen have kinda turned me away from it because i don't understand a damn thing any of you are talking about.
Haha. I’m in the same boat but I watch these videos paying half attention and treat them like foreign language emersion. When I browse the menus ingame later they often start to make sense.
Do you have a guide on how to donate duty officers to fleet assignments? Because I have duty officers for science and medical and it says that we need 11 and it won't let me donate any. I don't understand why.
Yes, there are booster commodities that provide boost XP :

Tesva P'siv? I checked the K-13 DOFF vendor last night, no such Officer was present?
Can’t recall where but you get her from either the dil store or- Phoenix or lobi .
@@Sbiper Should be there, under Fabrication engineers

3 Max per school. Woah.. Looks like we found DOC HOLLIDAY in the Fleet Research Lab !! "I'm your Huckleberry". NPC a dead ringer for Val Kilmer.

You can only stack up 3 (THREE) of the Research projects using a Research Lab Scientist.
I don't know about all the slots, don't have the last couple unlocked. But you can at least run 4 concurrently.

At 9:25 Back in the old days, you could max out the researches. Especially as a VIP, subscriber. Free Play I'm not sure about yet. 👍👍 5⭐
Useful information 👍 thank you for taking the time to skool nerds and noobs in STO.

Glad it was helpful!
You can get the R&D Doffs from the Fleet Spire.
On my main, i have 4 r&b slots, but can only start 3 per tree.

I am currently at level 15 of the shields school. The rest are level 9,10,11.
Audio's all better.
Head's still toddler sized.
Support still present.
You can only run three tests per 20 hours…three beam, three cannon etc. or three different schools twice. Whatever. But 3 per school max and it cools down in 20 hours after you collect
How have they got so much on their hud? I am on PS5 and would love this setup. Reminds me of my WoW days.
Only PC you have alot more options for the HUD.
Get them up to at least to 15…20 offers the most bonuses of course
1: 6 assignments every 20 hours but 3 max per school. 2: Get the 18H assignments for a 2k research bonus from the NPC in the same room as the Research Lab Technician. 3: Get Research XP bonus boosts on the exchange or boxes. 4: On PC, NUMPAD4 repeats the last launched project. 5: You need a good bunch of common and uncommon materials for the Research Lab Technician (still, can't never fail) so collect them as you see them, and you can get some as well in admiralty assignments.
Is it worth doing R&D? Or can I get equivalent or better from random drops/missions quests?
Its worth it for the batteries your can craft and the personal space traits you can unlock at lvl 15....
For the upgrade books yes - but once you get a lot of Dil you can just buy the phoenix box’s and get the phoenix upgrade books .
PS: the higher your R&D level the better (rare very rare) quality of what you can craft ~ phaser beam II very rare - then - tech book or a phoenix >>> to level VII
You can only do 3 of any type of assignment
I had 4 cannons going last night for some reason ...
what ship is that looks cvool
I run all 6 slots, after getting the daily fleet bonus.
you can use 3 assigments per school then it dissapear (exp one)
Yeah you can run 6 at a time I been doing it
Max of 3 r&d research of any 1 option
You can only do three a day of the same type.
I just found out - Officer and Special only level up when you do Science.
Even re-watched it and commented on it for the things and stuff...
I appreciate you!
Tbh it would be nice if they updated the whole crafting system. Since they are giving us new items. The UI is so annoying.
Most of my videos are made using my 100% free to play account that is about 3 years in. MMO, nothing to free or fast....
Was looking forward to start playing this game because it is free but this video and a few others I've seen have kinda turned me away from it because i don't understand a damn thing any of you are talking about.
Haha. I’m in the same boat but I watch these videos paying half attention and treat them like foreign language emersion. When I browse the menus ingame later they often start to make sense.
thank you for all, try watch al your videos u make a Great job
I remember the old R&D system. It was terrible.
R&D is seldom in STO.
4th
So this was a beginners guide huh?
Sorry just found your other video breaking it down. Thank you
That's not "fast".
Doing the 20h dailys is common knowledge. nothing new here to be seen.
back to the painfull slow leveling.
People still play this crap? 😅
Yeap, been 10 years now.
Do you have a guide on how to donate duty officers to fleet assignments? Because I have duty officers for science and medical and it says that we need 11 and it won't let me donate any. I don't understand why.
You could donate dil instead. Iirc it’s 1k dil per doff. Still get the fleet credits doing it that way as well
