Tates originated here on Long Island. A little girl sold them from her families farm stand. She grew up and so did her business. These cookies were much bigger and they came stacked in a clear plastic bag with a twist tie on top. The company has since been sold and the cookies shrank in size significantly and are sadly not the same as they were from the farm stand days...

1:59 If you ever take a trip to Hawaii, McDonald's there still sells their pies fried, not baked. [:
This is because when they tried to switch to baked pies, sales plummeted way more than they did on the mainland so they had to keep the fried version to maintain profits.

I will always agree a homemade cookie is by far better than a store cookie. But, there is a chance that the tates cookies might have not been very fresh either. I work in a bakery and in a matter of just two weeks you can tell a big difference from a cookie that was just made. The only difference of course would be the “crunch” everything else would still be the same. Would be interesting to do a fast update of one of those homemade cookies after it set for a couple weeks and see if you find much difference in them

Emmy, I love Tates chocolate chip cookies. I hit the link and bought Stella's book but I cannot find the recipe for Tates cookies. Can you help me out with the location in the Bravetart book?
