    You forgot to mention that K2 has a significantly larger battery than K3. It's a matter of "Form vs. Function," but for people who care deeply about the longevity of the battery life, it's probably worth mentioning. Also, I feel like you could have had a better comparison with the same switch types (directly comparing two models with two different switches makes it little bit confusing). Also, it's natural that you would have less accuracy with linear switches over more tactile switches.

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  2 года назад +2

      Thanks Steven. Totally agree that I could have been comparing like/like with the same switches…a few other commenters have noted that the reds on the K3 would have sounded even quieter.
      Good point about the battery too. 👍🏻

    I just got the K2 with blue switches. I didn't get the hot-swappable version, but that's fine. I like the way the switches feel. I didn't even know the K3 existed, TBH. I just went with some recommendations I saw on RUclips and such. I'm curious about the accuracy issue that you bring up, though. I feel like I'm very accurate with the K2, but maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. :)
    The only thing I don't like about the K2 so far (and I just got it this morning) is that I haven't found any good way to gauge how much battery I have left. Plugging it in to charge shows you whether your battery's low, but it would be nice to be able to know without having to plug it in.

      If you’re wanting something mechanical, either go low profile with something like Keychron K3 or K5. If you’re willing to spend more than $100 have a look at brands like Mode which allow you to custom build a keyboard to suit your needs including things like silicone dampening to absorb the pressure and noise.

And you talk about ergonomics while typing with your wrists on the desk which is always going to cause issues at some point down the line. Thanks for the video. I am finding the switch options confusing. I thought the red were meant to be quieter thank blue/brown?
    Did you try the red in the K3 and brown in the K2? Did you purchase both direct from Keychron? If their shipping/returns policy allows I am tempted to order both and return whichever feels least comfortable.

    • @ThatMarkGilroy

      Yep, had someone else ask the same question recently. I think generally brown is louder than red but the low profile keys on the K3 have a dampening effect. I’m willing to bet K3 with red switches would be even quieter than brown.
      Yep, I purchased both from Keychron direct. Good idea to purchase both and see what works best for you. Don’t forget there’s a discount code in the description!

      Boooo! The .UK site doesn't offer the discount code option in the checkout.

    My K3 recently arrived but I don’t like the keycaps. However, I really like the slimness! I figured I could just swap the keycaps but the K2 keycaps are out of stock -_- I’m starting to wonder how long have the keycaps been out of stock or if I should exchange my K3 for the K2 keyboard ⌨️

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  2 года назад

      Oh no- what didn’t you like about them? Assuming you got the hot swappable version of the K3 you can just swap them out, although you will need to replace the switches as well. Maybe it was the switches you didn’t like…?

    If you are to compare 2 mechanical keyboards, you need to have the same setup otherwise what is the point? You complain that your wrists hurt after some typing with the taller keyboard but you use a palm rest for the lower one? I have both keyboards and with a palm rest, they are almost the same apart for the difference in switches.

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  2 года назад +1

      Fair point Eric. This was one of my earlier videos - think my tests have gotten a little more scientific in time! I will be covering a comparison of the upcoming K3 Pro against the K3 v2 as soon as it lands so will make sure I’ve controlled as many variables as possible.

    Your wrists hurt because you type in a bad position. Your palms shouldn't be touching the table, they should be floating. The wrists should be in a neutral position. With the K2, you can see that your hand is angled because your palm is resting on the table. That's why it hurts so much. The K3 and Magic Keyboard are flatter, and that's why they don't hurt you. In any case, it's bad posture (resting the palms when typing); and you might have other problems. For the K2 or other mechanical classical keyboards, you DEFINITELY need a wrist rest, especially for the way you type :) Great review tho

    Well, this was a good video. Thanks Mark. I was looking exactly for this, a comparison between these 2 bad boys.
    Question: I saw that you are using the Logitech MX Master 3. Do you recommend it? Does it work with your leather pad?
    Second question: Can you use other switches in the K3 other than Red, Blue & Brown?

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for taking the time to comment Gonzalo!
      I would definitely recommend the MX Master 3 (mine is the Mac edition without the dongle). It's an absolute king of a mouse and so comfortable to use. The amount of customisations to help it fit your workflow is mind-blowing. And yep, it works just fine on my wooden desk or when on my leather pad.
      In terms of the switches on the K3. If you want the Gateron mechanical switches your only options are red/blue/brown, but if you choose the optical version this is hot-swappable you should be able to use different options. Might be worth double-checking with Keychron as it's not super-clear from their website : and I quote "*Low profile Keychron Optical switch keyboard is not compatible with any conventional mx style mechanical switch"
      Let me know how you get on with the K3 - you'll be getting the new improved V2!

    Hi there!
    Currently looking at the K3 from Keychron and can't decide between Red, blue or brown. Given the red's lower force needed I expected a quieter sound from them but after watching your video it sounded much louder on the red keys.
    i favour my macbook pro keyboard but want something that takes a little more force, but Keychron's website says its up to 57g (from the Mac's 36g) so I'm struggling to visualise it. Any help appreciated!

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  2 года назад

      Hi Jesse. I think the challenge with this video is that it’s not really an apples vs apples comparison. Too many variables. The red switches with the K3 *should* be quieter than the browns, but due to the low profile on the K3 vs the K2 they are louder in this comparison. I would say you’ll be fine with the K3 + red option. Let me know how you get on!

  • @harkigill-YT

    you say the browns are louder? Thats different from what keychron says on their website

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  3 года назад

      Hi Harkirat. I think it's the combination of the browns + lower-profile K3 keys...if you listen to the recording the K2 sounds so much louder. It's a harsher noise too compared to the softer-sounding K3.
      Definitely different from what I was led to understand on Keychron's website too!

    I made the mistake of buying a Keychron K7. What I received was NOT wireless (no dongle included) and, when connected by USB cable, many keys did not work. When I asked Keychron for an RMA, they demanded that I send them a video proving that I had not falsified the results of their keyboard test. Keychron has ignored all my subsequent requests for an RMA and a refund.
    There are many reputable companies making keyboards. Before buying anything from Keychron, think! Do you want to give your money to a company that treats its customers this way?
