    Made this cake for a 40th birthday party (in a 11 x 17 pan with half chocolate and half vanilla cake). It was the most moist vanilla cake I ever had. Everyone loved it. Another keeper!

    You are totally right, I believe those parchment liners have really saved me many many times from cake catastrophes. Thank God for whomever invented them. I love baking and ingredients are too expensive to have a cake fall apart on you or even stick to the bottom of your pans…

    This is a great recipe! I definitely will be using from now on. This cake reminds me of the cakes my grandmother would make when I was little.

    Sam, I. Love this one bowl recipe. My mom used to bake yellow cakes. But she'd divide the batter and color half pink, and half green. With the chocolate frosting so pretty! As soon as we get a working oven, I will try this recipe. B.T. W. I love your gorgeous dress! ❤️

    I haven’t found a yellow cake recipe I love this one looks really promising! Thank you. Wondering if you ever soak your cakes in simple syrup or make fillings? Would love to see your ideas !

      I'm not exactly opposed to it, but I do design my recipes to be perfectly moist without the need for syrup. I have several filling options on my blog 😊

    This recipe looks too good. I have 2 questions. 1. Can I substitute the sour cream with yogurt 2. I want to bake this cake on a 10-inch heart-shaped pan. Do I have to tweak the ingredients? Please let me know.

    Can I mix in the eggs one at a time for better incorporation? I always love to do this with cakes but I also do not want to overmix the batter. :)

    Look into seed oils. “Vegetable” and canola oils.

      I honestly haven't tried it. It would take some testing to make it work. There would need to be some alterations made that I just can't foresee without trying it. If you do try it I would love to know what you do and how it goes. :)

    I have never made a cake in my life. I like cake, but since it is only me I would need a reason to make one for someone else. And my step daughter makes amazing designer cakes that are out of this world. But she lives 600 miles away. That is a bit of an issue. lol
    I basically watched this cause it's you and I know it helps, just like these comments help. 😀

      Aw, thank you so much! You could always half the recipe to make a smaller, personal cake. Or you can freeze the leftovers! 😀

    Hola Sam.. saludos cordiales desde Venezuela.. me gustaría saber qué sustituto tiene el sour cream... Aquí donde vivo poco se consigue.. se consigue el yogurt natural y el de 125 GRS cuesta 3$.. podría ser buttermilk?

      @@SugarSpunRun realmente, más o menos.. imagínate Sam, 500 GRS cuesta 6$. Quizás allá cueste casi igual, pero aquí ganar dinero es tan difícil.. imagínate, un sueldo básico 16$

      I typically don't have extra icing, but if I do I like to add some decorative swirls on top. :)

      I haven’t tried almond milk so I can’t say for sure how it would turn out.

      ​@SugarSpunRun I have two more questions if that's ok! I want to triple the recipe to make this a three layered cake but I have only two cake pans. Is it OK to leave the batter out, with a cover on, while the two cakes bake and then put the third layer in after they're both done?
      My second question is can I use avocado oil in place of vegetable oil?

      I used 2 8 inch pans. You may have a little too much batter for 7 inch pans.

    Can you use soybean oil? Some people say it doesn't taste good in baked goods.

      I often use vegetable oil in this cake, which primarily is soybean oil. I’ve never had a problem with it or had anyone complain of the taste so you should be just fine ☺️
