I'm very excited to get into the Empire of the Vampire stuff myself. For so long, the stigma of vampires has been heavily and negatively affected by Twilight so I'm glad we're getting some new quality gritty vampire stuff as it should be written. That bizarre, nasty, violent, stuff we see in like Castlevania or Blade even. Can't wait.
It is definitely trying to take back what a vampire should be
Oh man I can’t wait to read all these King ones you did this year! (Except Salem’s Lot which I’ve already done).
The fact that Return to Edan made you misty eyed has me even more hyped for that series - I’m always hoping to get at least a little emotionally stirred with my reads.
Return to Edan has some really powerful moments so I think it will hit the mark for you! King has just been so great and has really made my reading year so far.
I love your longer videos! 😁 And I would like to see vlogs on your channel.
thanks for watching!
I finished my first reading of Pet Sematary yesterday. I had goosebumps throughout the whole final act!
The ending is great
Great video Tom! I like your idea for a review vlog. I occasionally do a video with short reviews of several books, so a similar idea. Empire of the Vampire/Damned were just absolutely stellar!
I have also thought about doing the many books one review video idea as well
What a great year so far! Always love your recaps, Tom. I NEED to get into some King soon. Happy reading!
The best part of King is that he has so many options to pick from.
I am also in my Stephen King renaissance right now! His character work is incredible. Also, vlogs are cool! Interested to see how you implement that into the channel!
I have been blow away but how real his characters feel
@@TomOrange Same here!
Great list man. My partner just read Salem's Lot for the first time as well and she liked it a lot
She has good taste!
Solid list. I was expecting Pet Semetary somewhere in the top 3 after that experience you had with it!
I say go for the reading vlog, they seem to work out well for Jimmy and Laura, and they're a different format to play with.
I think the shinning and 11/22/63 both have a chance of getting close but its a tall order. I think i am going to give them a try. Worse case I dont enjoy them and come back to what I have been doing! Thanks for watching!
Hearing that you’re gonna dive into sun eater is awesome
It’s a series I’ve wanted to get to for a really long time
Good luck sorting out the direction you want to take things, that can often be a stressful endeavor!
Thank you! I’m not overly stressed about. Just want to make sure I’m still having fun
Love to see some Empire of the Vampire gushing, I loooove that series as well!! Though Nevernight still has my heart, as that got me back into reading in the first place. Also, I really need to get back into some Stephen King!
Looking forward to all you've got in store in the second half of the year, be that reviews or vlogs or any other type of content ;) Happy reading!!
I have thought about trying out Nevernight but I hear a lot of mixed stuff about it. Happy reading!
@@TomOrange It's a love it/hate it series for sure, but you will only know if you try! Also, the fact that you have enjoyed his dark edginess in EotV already gives me higher hopes you'd enjoy Nevernight!
You might wanna check out Friedrich Nietzsche's The Will to Power, Beyond Good and Evil, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and Genealogy of Morals if you like to read more Philosophy.
Thanks for those suggestions! Would you say those are pretty beginner friendly?
@@TomOrange I dont think there's ever a beginner or advanced level of Philosophy. It's your readiness to forgo your own beliefs and morals to parse through the different ideologies that the Philosopher is presenting to the table.
Working my way through King in publication order. Just finished up Firestarter this morning
Thats awesome!
I read authors in chunks a lot of times. Love longer series and I don't like jumping around either so usually my top 10 lists will only feature a few authors as well. Mine so far this year actually has 4 authors on it. Here is my current top 10:
10. Half the World by Abercrombie
9. The Wheel of Osheim by Lawrence
8. The Prince of Fools by Lawrence
7. Alloy of Law by Sanderson
6. Emperor of Thorns by Lawrence
5. The Martyr by Ryan
4. The Bands of Mourning by Sanderson
3. The Traitor by Ryan
2. King of Thorns by Lawrence
1. The Lost Metal by Sanderson
The top 2 are basically tied for my favorite book of the year; it will depend on my mood on which I say is in first place, lol. All these are at least a 4.5 star in my opinion with the top 4 being 5 star books.
Glad you enjoyed era two of mistborn so much. I know it’s really hit and miss for a lot of people. Personally I really enjoyed the first three. I have mixed feelings about The Lost Metal but totally understand why it could be your favorite.
@@TomOrange Stormlight is still my favorite of the Cosmere; with both WoK & WoR ranking ahead of Lost Metal.
But so far this year it's in a dead heat with KoT for my favorite book.
Nice recap Tom! Love your channel and content! Def have taken some recommendations from your reviews. Also so pumped you are liking King so far
I’m glad I’ve been able to give you some recommendations! King has been such a nice surprise this year for me
Recently found your channel and really appreciating your content man, keep up the awesome work!
Thanks I appreciate that! Thank you for watching
Awesome first half! Alot of King on the list I can dig it.
King had been a revelation for me this year. Very quickly becoming a new favorite author for me
@@TomOrange Nice!!
Awesome check in, Tom! I really need to get on this Stephen King train, don't I?
Where would you recommend starting?
I'd enjoy vlogging videos! I always enjoy your takes on books so the format doesn’t bother me too much 😊
Honestly any of the ones i mentioned in this video are pretty good starting points. The nice thing about King is he mostly writes standalones
Really nice video, some good readings :) Would really like seeings vlogs here
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
I gotta pick up Edan so I can get to that discussion😂
It’s a good trilogy with another book on the way!
Great 6 months of reading!
King is King. Can Dark Tower be far in your future?
Btw, the colorway, layout, and overall esthetics of Daniel Greene's book are stunning!
Dark Tower is for sure in my future. There are still some of his other books that I want to read first. Really take my time to get use to him and his story telling before jumping in to it.
@@TomOrange That makes sense. I've read a lot of King and still have many books to get to. Just yesterday I picked up a 1st ed of Duma Key. 😀
Looks like a great start to the year! I need to get into King at some point. Would you suggest any of the ones mentioned here as a starting point?
I think all of the ones I mentioned in this video are good starting point. They are all in the shorter side so not a huge time commitment
Which are the two of your least favorite books McCarthy wrote?
The Orchard Keeper which I have two stars and Blood Meridian which I have 3 stars.
@@TomOrange That's understandable. He's definitely not a writer for everyone. I'd recommend continuing the Border Trilogy if you appreciated All the Pretty Horses though.
